Very nice! I was a very poor kid getting beat up all the time. I did not have a father to teach me how to fight. I used to watch Karate lessons at my local dojo. The Sensei was the best in town and very expensive. Every day I went to watch and he noticed me, invited me to train. I told him I did not have money to pay. He said you can learn for free if you come every day at 6 am to clean the dojo and the restrooms. I said, its a deal! 25 years have pass and I owed my Sensei everything...

MMA fan here, having no clue who the jiu jujitsu world champion was I searched on google only for it to come with this man. I searched here to find any videos and this was the first one that popped up. I was not expecting this, the fact that one of the most accomplished jiu jitsu practitioners can deliver such a powerful message really gives you a perspective on the life changing effect this sport has. Truly a fan now and yet not knowing the dude am super proud of his journey

I can relate 100%. I was only a white belt but I cried my eyes out for the first time in over 15 years after my first class. I knew after 1 class that I will be doing this for the rest of my life. It's the only thing I have ever felt this good about.

Caio means "joy"; Terra means "planet earth". You are literally a joy on this planet earth. You have an impact on many people. I had similar feelings of abuse towards jujitsu at first but hid them well, taking a break but coming back stronger tomorrow. Thanks for helping so many live up to their potential. It is humbling.

Caio, you couldn't have said any better. I started giving up as a blue belt and left because of prior injuries before starting Jiujitsu and felt I just couldn't do it, that it was not for me. When away is when I realized that I needed to return. It is not easy for me some times, but the support I get and how much it has helped me be a better person and have a better out look towards everything is priceless. Now Jiu-Jitsu es mi vida and mi vida es Jiu-Jitsu, Ooss!

I saw this video a long time ago, and I did not understand the message Caio was trying to give. I quit training Jiu Jitsu for 3 years after I was promoted to blue belt. Now that I am training again, I noticed that quiting was the worst decision of my life. Thank you Caio for this message so many years later. Oss

What a great teacher you had, this is everything ! I trained in Aikido putting my heart into it , I could learn technic very fast and I put the dojo first in my heart, showing up first to clean it, respecting it. I bought rugs for the Dojo, gave xmas gifts and more. But, my Sensei didn't want me there. Feeling this let down for the 3 years I trained, I could not figure out why he didn't like me. He would accuse me of things I didn't do or make small things big. Once I spoke to a member for a second on the mat and my Sensei hollered at me then began to charge at me. Aikido being a way of harmony I thought, but when I mentioned "that day didn't feel like harmony" he told me that if I came back he would break my knee. It's been 5 years now and I have never gotten over my Aikido loss. Here there isn't many good Aikido schools. I could have been a 5th Kyu but he failed me. Later asking me to retest on the things he felt I miss and I could have 5 kyu but It didn't feel right so I was a 6 kyu performing as good as higher rank. Maybe this is why he didn't like me or he just didn't want me to prosper. This would be one of the worst teachers to ever have. Aikido is an art of love and self betterment but not under the son of Sensei Kushida. Yoshokai this school in Ann Arbor, Michigan, taught by one of the best teachers ever to live but he has passed away, his son has the Dojo and it isn't the same. Rest In Peace Sensei Takashi Kushida, I love you ! What a great man to be gone.

I have 4 kids (3 girls, 1 son) And I put my 2 oldest daughters in Jiu-jitsu at the age of 7 and 5 its now been 1 year and oldest just recently did her first competition. She didn't win, but I was so proud to see her out there. It makes me proud to know both of my girls are learning to protect themselves. I just turned 29, and I'm done having kids. I'm out of shape, and I just went through a scary situation where a man was following me at Walmart, and I had to be escorted out for my safety. I have decided I want to enroll in Jiu-jitsu. I've seen how much my girls have grown and I know in my heart and soul it will only be beneficial for me and my family! Ps. The gym we go to is called Caio Terra ❤ super thankful to have found this gym!

Hi Ben, I'm a purple belt. I try to train the more I can, but some times my job activities don't let me train. I heard that Marcelo García said once that he's not the best, but he's the person that likes most jiu jitsu. For me he's one of the best. I love jiu jitsu and l like to train a lot. Maybe I'm not the best fighter, but that's not the more important. The art, friendship, support, respect, get fun is the important. Oss!

Americans have a saying; "That's deep." People too often take their discipline and think, "How can I become the greatest boxer, or guitarist, or writer..." but they never consider the other way around. "Being a filmmaker has made me a better person." Caio's insight is for the ages.

I think that Caio's message is truly beautiful, but even though in retrospect Caio disliked his mentality, that mentality was what got him to the top. The drive to beat others was so strong that Caio achieved his goals. The ends justified the means. I don't think I can appreciate what Caio is saying unless I push myself to the very extreme and become the absolute best I can be. Because although slowly and surely you will get there training at a consistent rate, the more you want it and still persist, the more of a champion you are. Holding yourself back with the mentality of "Well I don't want to care too much about beating up other people" might ultimately make you not push as hard as someone who has the limited, short-sighted goal of beating up the blue belt in front of him. What do you guys think?
