What I love about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is that no matter how good you are, there is always someone that could make you look like a white belt. BJJ is so good for creating a great athlete. Instead of throwing a ball around or just sitting on the bench, everyone gets involved in BJJ, no matter what skill level someone is at. I also love how BJJ is just knowledge. Tapping out is admitting that we aren't the best, but it shows that we still have to learn. Black belts are just white belts that don't give up.

At 37 I have decided to start learning jiu jitsu. For a long time I made excuses. I told myself I was too old to start, too out of shape, or that I did not have enough time. I know now this was life offering my resistance that I must overcome. I am still very new to this amazing art, but it already has had a profound effect on me. No matter how shitty of a day I am having, after a jiu jitsu class I always feel infinitely better. The air almost tastes sweeter, and I am happy and grateful to be alive. Catch wrestling / no gi grappling did all this for me and still does now. It makes me look at life from a different perspective. I know my vulnerabilities and my weaknesses and understand where I need to improve but at the same time I'm more confident. I don't have a false sense of security like what fake mystical martial arts give you, I'm aware of my humanity and how life is just a bunch of small choices and as such I don't fear adversity anymore. Respect to all martial arts brothers. Sambo, Muay Thai, boxing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Kali/escrima. I hope you all find clarity in what you do.

I left JJ as a blue belt over 7 years ago due to life and the curveball I was unable to hit until now...mainly ego. It took me 7 years to lose it, and accept humility. The lessons we learn on the mat, and relationships we make, both transcend the tangible rewards we fool ourselves into chasing. It's the intangible that truly helps us find the person within that we always wish to be. I wish this was a lesson I learned so many years ago, but I thank God that he helped me find a way back to this beautiful art. Godspeed to all my BJJ brothers and sisters. Great video, Stuart. Even on my worst days and the days I was injured I am thankful that my body can move and what it needs to do. Next to having my son, Jiu Jitsu is the best thing I have in my life today. @stuartcooperfilms5 жыл бұрын
Bro i used to suffer with a lot of anxiety before i started my Jiujitsu journey. i remember my first day turning up to my very first class. I looked through the window and was terrified to go inside. I turned back around to my car and said to myself I'm not going in there. As i started to walk away my Professor opened the door and saw me. He invited me inside so then i had no choice because i didn't want to be rude. He asked me if i was going to train and i said no i'll just watch for today. But he made me feel very comfortable and introduced me to everyone. After a few sessions of watching i realized there was nothing to be worried about. Each time i turned up to train the anxiety got less and less. At first i could barely look people in the eye and wasn't used to shaking peoples hands. It took a good year or so for me to really open up and get comfortable. 11 Years later I'm teaching Jiujitsu for a living and helping other people feel comfortable who walk through the door as that used to be me. This is why i make videos on the sport to show people how this sport can really help you in your everyday life. All the best Alex! keep showing up and it gets much easier and more fun as time goes on.

I whole heartily agree with Dean Lister. We as humans were not meant to work the way we do in this system. That's why so many people are sick and depressed. The whole system has no time for passion. It's slavery without chains. It's imperative that you make time for your passions in life or WTF is the point. Luckily iv came back to JJ later in life I'm nearly 40 but it's never too late. I will never stop now until the day I die, it's not about belts for me, it's about learning and simply loving what I do.

I have recently started Jiu-Jitsu, this week actually, and I’m having the time of my life. I used to wrestle in high school and I instantly fell in love with it and I thought it would only be it. However, after my first Jiu-Jitsu class, I realized I just love grappling. I am excited to start this incredible journey and I can’t wait to see where it takes me. I’m happy that I’m back on the mat again and I get to feel a sense of peace like I did as a teenager.
