GameNight! Episode 17 - Ultimate Werewolf: Inquisition

Our group has played this many times, and we LOVE it. During the night phase, the order that the cards are picked up does not matter (the werewolf players will reorganize them anyway), and all that matters is that they are laid back into the grid top-to-bottom (killing the bottom card). Also, to mitigate detecting werewolves during the night phase, we have every player close their eyes and hold out their right hand, awaiting the card stack when the preceding player is done with them... we do not announce who is being handed the stack, and the only speaking that happens is the Grand Inquisitor announcing that the cards have gotten all the way back to them. Works great!

Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to play a game of SEVEN with some of my friends (in fact we binged four games), and since all of us are very strategic, it got REALLY interesting!

Wrong rules were played...for certain roles Minion must place votes(2) on a card with votes on it when picked... Apprentice seer, or Seer, ... Can not view a horizontal placed card, only a Sorcerer (used in 5 player plus game) can see a horizontal card that a seer or apprentice seer has seen, and then they must place 2 votes on it. They made other mistake by taking cubes or votes and not placing them when the picked certain character role.... anyways At least they caught the single card column mistake when they chose it at the end of the day for the night round....

Rules page 7 "Seer: secretly look at one of the vertically-oriented residents... After the resident card is viewed, it is placed back HORIZONTALLY. The Seer or App. Seer may NOT be used to view that card again." If you put it back and turn it 180, so its "up side down" You can tell that it can't be seen again ;)

You should do it anyway. The more games of this kind that you play, the better that you get at it. It's far too much fun to pass up. Our group felt the same way as you about Resistance, but I bought it anyway, and now it's our go-to game.

What I liked about this video is for, at least the first game, you gave the audience the option to close their eyes so the werewolf was hidden from them. I like not knowing. =)

47:18 I thought you can't pick a column that has only one card. Can anyone verify that? Also, if the inquisitor picks a column that has a card a seer has seen, does it become upright again, assuming it survives?

It might -sound- confusing, but it has a tiny little 7 page rule book. It gets complex in play, but the mechanics are pretty easy to sum up.

One thing I do is have all players, when they have the cards in their hands at night, make some sort of noise "nom nom nom", and count a few seconds. Usually all of the players are a bit goofy and making random noises even when they're not handling the cards, so it's pretty hard to tell who the player werewolf is, even if someone is trying.

No it is a verbal game that you deal playing cards and the red kings are werwolfs so it would be hard

It would only be red kings if you used a poker deck. The official game has actual werewolf cards and many different types of characters like in this game. The reason it would be hard is because you need a lot of players to have a good game.

Well this is a very cool game... and the fact that it plays 4 is great... The Resistance really only play as low as 5 and this has more "options" where to can improve your gameplay.

in the night you could turn music on and everybody HAS TO have the cards 10 seconds

Easy fix, when passing around the cards each person must hold the cards for at least 20 seconds.

I don't understand why the Werewolf would kill another Werewolf during the night phase? Nobody knows who the Werewolf is so why is it beneficial for that player to kill another Werewolf? Shouldn't it ALWAYS be a villager that gets killed at night?

Think you pick a column an 3 Werewolves are under it. If the villager find a werewolf, they are gonna know you had no choice and that's 3 werewolves killed instantly. It's more of an anti-quick-victory mechanism.

Actually, there's another element. If the wolves kill a wolf, then the village cards get shuffled around, so if the village-oriented players have a ton of information and you've got at least 2 werewolves left in the village, you can sacrifice one of them this way to destroy that information.

Nikki used the seer, looked at a werewolf card and said "we should definitely kill this". Then Lincoln was next so he put the bodyguard on it.

I feel like maybe the seers should become ghosts or something when killed? like maybe they both become "spend 2 votes and see a card?" the villagers being left with no information at all at the end of that first round kinda sucked

I'm confused as to why the regular cards get shuffled when he killed a werewolf. No body knows anything about those cards except perhaps the werewolf himself...

Two things: 1. if the werewolf was forced to pick a werewolf to kill because it was only werewolves in that column, the good guys could win by just taking that row again and again, and... 2. Because the good guys do know something, with the seer and apprentice powers. It's one of the few ways the werewolf has to remove information, so I think it's for balance reasons Or do you mean something else than the "global shuffle" after a werewolf dies at night?

If I remember correctly seer and ap. turn cards sideways when they see them, and only non-sideways cards are shuffled. so point two is false, but point 1 makes sense thanks.

The Resistance has no elimination also and is less convoluted than this game. I guess what I'm trying to say is...buy The Resistance instead.

well, I really wanted to like this game but this gimmick with fiddling with the cards is just poor game design to me. They should have come up with a way to do it more naturally. Resistance is still the best game of that genre. Hands down.
