I used to help the younger kids/kids who needed more help than myself during lunch and have witnessed just how nasty people can be, even a few teachers treated us like we were inferior. There is one part I heavily disagree with and I am practically bi, and that is a character being gay without any prior knowledge or hints towards it. Granted, yes, they can very much be gay. That isnt the problem. The problem is the build up to it. If there arent any hints towards the character actually not being hetero, them suddenly coming out as gay is just weird. It brings me back to Overwatchs Soldier 76 reveal of him being gay. There is NOTHING hinting at him having any sexual or romantic relationship with anyone up until that very moment. Dude can be gay for all I care, glad he found love at one point. But the story around the reveal was so cliche its not even funny. You could switch out all the male signifiers for his old partner and turn the memory images into a female and the story wouldnt change. THAT is the problem here. It is treated as something special but doesnt feel special. It is supposed to be a big reveal but its just done haphazardly without a care in the world, tucked in at the end of a larger story. As someone who loves to get in deep on lore and characters this feels insulting more than anything and it doesnt even have to do with the fact that he is gay in the first place! Rant over lol

I'd have to see the reveals you're referring to. I saw the comic where it showed Tracer (if I'm remembering correctly) was in a romantic relationship with a woman and my response was "oh, okay." Because it wasn't propped up as some event or big reveal, she just happened to be gay/bi. I think that's the way it should be.
@GikamesShadow
@GikamesShadow Жыл бұрын
@@Maelthorn1337 Exactly. Possibly the best way they could have gone about it. But with Soldier it was tacked on the end of an actual story as a sidenote but you could tell it just didnt fit the entire thing. It felt so forced. You could have replaced the male partner with a female one and the entire thing wouldnt have changed.
@chikao9532
@chikao9532 Жыл бұрын
Was there anything pointing to him being straight either though?
@GikamesShadow
@GikamesShadow Жыл бұрын
@@chikao9532 Thats the problem, there wasnt ANYTHING pointing to him being either or. There was no flat out reveal of ANYTHING unlike with Tracer. That was the main problem. This was such a major loredrop about his past which everyone was curious about and they threw this reveal at the end of a story as a sidenote. A story which wasnt even about this specifically even, which only makes it worse. If they had handled it like Tracers reveal, the entire story about his old lover would have felt so much more genuine. We could have seen them get together in flashbacks, seen them bond maybe as soldiers on the battlefield and later fall in love. Then they start to have a proper relationship but then the robot war started and Overwatch was called into action for obvious reasons leading to Soldiers eventual "Death". Maybe even he was even fighting alongside his lover who knows! It could have been such a good comic to go over but they just... dropped the ball entirely for the sake of "Gay reveal" cause controversy that happened just days earlier. And they did this with almost EVERY SINGLE REVEAL THAT WASNT TRACER LMAO

Gotta say I disagree when it comes to TLOU. Yes, it's true that Bill and Frank were gay in the game, BUT there was no Bill/Frank love story in the game whatsoever so it's rather dishonest to act like the show was true to the game with that episode. In fact, in the game they were broken up and Frank hated Bill before his death. So what happened in the show was really not accurate at all. More importantly though, dismissing criticism of that episode as if people only disliked it because "eww gay people" is a petty and dismissive argument. There's nothing wrong with gay romance stories, what is wrong is that it was a side plot involving characters that were barely in the show and it wasted a bunch of time that could have been used to further the main plot. One of the biggest issues the show had in the end was that the relationship between Joel and Ellie was MUCH weaker in the show then in the game because they just didn't get to spend enough time together building a relationship. And much of that problem could have been lessened by wasting less time on the romance stuff and spending more time with Joel and Ellie.

Tbh, I applaud anyone who goes the extra mile to fact check all the information they read, because I've genuinely stopped caring for the most part. If I see a headline, I parse out the part that's probably BS in 2 seconds and just take the rest to the "probably meh" department where I forget about it. Most news I see these days are fake as hell be it left or right, so I don't try to take a side anymore. I have my beliefs on certain things that I'm reasonably certain are true or "true enough" and I call it a day, maybe I talk to myself every once in a while and see where those ideas go, if they make any logical sense. Just the usual schizo nonsense really.

44:36 It's 100% hitting me, I'm at about the age your talking about. And I'm even more concerned because(and this is not the first time this happened) Just the other day I heard someone with my blood illness died at like age 30 Which just maybe me go in my head (I great thanks really wish you didn't say that in front of me, that's like a few years away) And I know I can live a long life and that I can be successful in life But a few months ago, knowing that didn't stop me from being a bit depressed; especially with the other factors in my life. *My point is The Worry is Genuine.*

As a muslim making fun of that person when that person does not like it is a sin. We don't make fun of people when we ourselves would not like it when we're being make fun of. It is not exciting. It is plain bad. We need to spread more love and peace. Make the world better for everyone. No i'm not really religious. Just my thought.

I think it started with a meme Destiny Tweeted of Minecraft Steve mining the Kaaba 🕋 He got lots of doxing and death threats so he escalated to more criticism of Islam in response.

Pretty sure it goes even further back. He answered a muslim dude who talked about a tictoc where a transperson(? ) talked about Jesus in a ..well sexual /disrespectful manner and pointed out that this kind of speech in the west showd their degeneracy. Destiny then answered that at least here we didn't throw people off of buildings. He then got bombarded with hate in dm's and did a mock apology, saying that he'd now go and play some minecraft, showing that "mining the kaaba" meme. And it escalated from there.

On the topic of people not reading headlines, it made me think of the people crying antisemitism at hogwarts legacy, meanwhile a jewish organisation in the uk who exist to check the antisemitism of things, looked into the game and came to conclusion thay beyond goblins way in the past being a jewish sterotype the game was in no way antisemitic. But people just see someone on Twitter say something is bad, won't look into it even slightly, and will parrot that opinion without even having a lick of info about it.

The thing with The Last of Us show that a lot of people were complaining about was the difference between the game depiction and the show depiction. So in the game it's never even said that he's gay, it's just really heavily implied. He's sad about another guy he was living with dying, Ellie steals his box of comic books and at the bottom are a bunch of magazines of like dudes without shirts and shit and that's the moment of realization. It was clever, it wasn't on the nose, it made him feel like a real gay person (You wouldn't know unless it comes up). In the show though, they break the flow of the story by devoting and entire episode to his romance with his husband/boyfriend (I forget if they were married), it's no longer subtle, it's no longer clever, it interrupts the flow of the story in a very unnatural way, etc. That was my issue with it anyway, I loved the way they did it in the game and the show just took a shit all over it.
