btw, the character Asagi ("Ah-sa-gi" not "Ashuka, as you keep saying), the one with the psychic connection to Gamera in all 3 movies, is played by Ayako Fujitani, who is the half-Japanese daughter of Steven Seagal.

The basics of the psychic link are twofold. Firstly, it gives Gamera direction. The Gyaos are free-willed weapons, which is how they got so out of control. By linking mentally with Gamera, they engineered a way to direct him to destroy only what they want destroyed. Secondly, healing. Basically, he can draw on his human guide to enhance his own healing.

I think the point with the government protecting Gyaos is to show how inflexible they are. They've made the decision to protect them in the beginning and can't move away from that decision even in light of the new events that are happening. Kinda like the plot of Shin Godzilla. I don't know if that was the intent of the writers, but that's how I see it.

I can't say I'm much of a Gamera fan, but yes, the Gamera trilogy starting with Guardian of the Universe is one of the best, rivaling the Heisei series. And... oh boy, wish you luck in reviewing, and surviving, GODZILLA'S REVENGE. Really, the only other Godzilla movie worse than that is GODZILLA VS. GIGAN.

If I may, one reason they state for wanting capture Gyaos is that it's a rare type of animal while Gamera is likely to cause more destruction. Environment guy reasons that if a T-Rex were to appear and it ate people, people would still be interested for its capture... Now if that doesn't sound like a cold and almost unfeeling politician, IDK WHAT DOES HAHAHAHA! TBH tho, it's strange they never considered capturing Gamera too since both are rare speciments but even then, the Gyaos were 30 meters during the bridge scene and had an insatiable appetite and yet the government STILL wanted to capture it alive. They only considered its killing after it had destroyed much of Tokyo and grew to Gamera's height. Nice one.

alexthehunted In one of the trailers John Goodman's character does state that the nuclear test in 1954 weren't test and they were trying to kill something (Godzilla) so yes they will directly reference Godzilla at least once.

I know the Gaos design gets criticized but I like it in the Gamera trilogy. It looks familiar yet otherworldly. Familiar in the sense it bears resemblance to real species and it looks like the Gaos fans ought to recognize but scary, not cute.

well actually in the first movie it was stated that his power source was plutonium and it was also hinted at that his other power source was electricity, which is what the original gamera also absorbed. Mana was not stated in this film, and he was only shown to absorb natural energy.

110% in agreement. First Kaiju film I ever saw where the main characters were actually likeable and interesting. Better FX than any Godzilla movie until 2014. A truly engaging story. Dubbed humor that seemed intentional and was actually humorous. And Gyaos is a truly creepy monster.
