Hello! Heads up for you all! Around the hour mark in the video, I say that Godzilla vs. Destoroyah was released in 1985. However, the correct release year is actually 1995. My apologies for the slip up!

Born in 1963, i grew during the monster boom. Even then Gamera movies were something of a minor league, but I loved the franchise. Even as a first grader when Gamera vs Jaigar came out in 1970, I thought it was more “realistic” just because of all the green blood that came out when he was injured. Well congratulations for the long video. I was captivated and didn’t realize it was 90 minutes long until you mentioned it at the end. Great work and God bless.

Last November we found out Gamera was making his grand return with the Rebirth anime, and after many years of telling myself that I would get around to watching his franchise, I thought there was no better time. I found out there were 12 Gamera movies, so I decided to watch one movie a month. Around April of 2023, I found this video of yours. I remember watching your History & Evolution of Godzilla video way back when it came out, so I knew I was in for a treat. However, I didn't want to spoil the movies for myself, so every time I finished a movie, I would come back here and watch a bit more of your video. It's been a pleasure watching you talk about each film over the last few months, and I can't wait to see what else you have instore.

Gamera the Brave is soooo underappreciated. I think its 'failure' is just a side effect of the time it was released, with most people getting tired of kaiju movies. I feel it's a strong closing to an era of Gamera movies. Hoping to see a new Gamera movie in my lifetime, I hope Kadokawa would see Shin Gojira and Shin Ultraman's success and do something about it. Hell, if Hideaki Anno wants to do a Gamera movie, he's very welcome to do so.

@@SpaceWizardCosplayMore so than just Gamera Rebirth, Kaneko said that he had approached Kadokawa with a new Gamera pitch but it had to be shelved for Rebirth. Once Rebirth is released, maybe they'll contact him again. Even if they don't, we have the recent statement of Seshita, director of Rebirth, that if Rebirth does well, he has ideas for a second season, a live action series and even up to ten movies. We gotta support Gamera Rebirth, because if it profits, Gamera may well become the powerhouse he was before

I have been a life-long Gamera fan. Many people make fun of the Showa era films but I think they are great. Noriaki Yuasa crafted them with love and infused them with elements that capture the child's imagination. He is to be commended for this. Without his work, we would not have the great Heisei trilogy that came later. Shusuke Kaneko was just the right man to breathe new life into the franchise. I even liked Gamera the Brave and the way it returned to its child friendly roots. Too bad it didn't continue. Very nice video. Thanks!

Gamera vs. Gyaos is my favorite of the Showa era. What's ironic is that even though it brought the kid-friendly factor back into the series, it's probably one of the scariest kaiju movies of its time. Gyaos is a great villain. His glowing eyes, creepy hiss/roar and nocturnal predation habits make him more formidable than the usual giant monster, and the green glow around the mountains really made for some great atmosphere. Plus, his sonic beam is probably one of the nastiest ranged weapons of any kaiju.

I still remember watching the original Gamera as a kid in the 90s with my older cousins. As a 6-8 year old, I really liked how scary yet silly the suit looked, something about saving the falling kid really spoke to me, like even though Gamera is destroying the city, he still knew he had to save that kid, meaning he's not really a monster, just misunderstood. 10/10 kaiju, still love him more than Godzilla

Really solid rundown of a character that is often sidelined by the king. Nice to see Gamera get some spotlight. I do think your VO would be stronger if you didn't so often resort to artificially trying to add weight to a statement by saying the last two words of the sentence....really...slowly. Save it for really big transitions or reveals, maybe two in a script at most.

Excellent job. I am a 57 year old Japanese American who's been in California since 1971 so my childhood memory of Gamera are the same as any kid in CA at that time(I think they usually played on Channel 11 or Channel 9 on was called KTTV). I must say the new dubbing of the new Gamera is way better than when I was a kid. Back then, the dubbing made the people sound like morons and they all spoke with a fake Japanese accent. We were all unknowingly racist at the time but today the translation is very good, no goofy accent or weird dialog. I think it's thanks to Anime and Manga because it turned on a young crowd to Japanese culture. Think about it, no modern kid would think its OK to put a dump Japanese accent on a Dragonball Z episode. As far as your presentation, I found it spot on. I loved all the wacky monsters and found them cool. The knifehead with shyurikens mat seem stupid modern kids was "Wow Bitch'n!" to a 6 year old watching on a small black and white TV. Later in life I looked back at the Gamera movies with found memories but also with realization on how cheaply they were made. So watching the new Gamera, specially Gamera Vs Iris, I was delighted and Amazed at how good the new Gamera was. It is as you said, the old generation remaking their beloved Kaiju into what they think would make it even better.

Hey this video is excellent. I’m on a Kaiju learning kick and enjoyed it a lot… which is why I hate to point out a mistake… The dude in the image at 7:54 and 8:07 isn’t Tomio Sagisu, but Osamu Tezuka. Tezuka is king shit of 20th century manga, created Astro Boy and is a super legend. That specific photo is even familiar to me. I saw that IMBD kinda page where you found the image, but they made a mistake. I also saw that any other choices for Sagisu were shitty and blurry, so I get it… but sadly that ain’t him.

Ok I just found this last night and watched it today. This was absolutely amazing and sincerely a labor of love. I am 58 and I discovered Gamera when I was 8 years old. You do the math. There was this local station that would play a genre of movies over the course of a week at 4pm. So that week it was obviously Japanese Horror/Monster movies. My 8 year old self was glued to the TV every day that week as I fell in love with Gamera and eventually Godzilla plus one movie called Attack of The Mushroom People I found rather disturbing for a 8 year old... and i loved it . But I am here to say Gamera was my first love, then Godzilla. They lit my little imagination on FIRE and I started my life as an Artist just drawing what I loved. So watching this today made me realize my love for imagination came from these movies. Star Wars made me want to draw people and use my imagination as well. Saw Godzilla minus One earlier this month in IMAX and was actually terrified for the first time watching a Kaiju movie. Would love to see another Gamera movie as well. Thank you again for creating this.

I watched this video till the end. Good job my man! I'm hoping they make a new Gamera movie sometime soon. That Gamera Unknown trailer was sick.

For people don't know is the part where Gyaos almost sliced off GAMERAS arm was foreshadowing in the future and every time Gamera loses his arm it's always the right arm
@Kaiju-bm4ts3 ай бұрын
Not really....as he lost his first fight with legion and didn't lose his arm or had it damaged. Wasn't really foreshadowing
@benjaminwalters21883 ай бұрын
@@Kaiju-bm4ts he only lost his right arm 3 times in the gamera franchise Gamera versus gyaos the first original one not completely losing his arm but nerely slicing it off the second time is when he lost his arm with Iris and the third time is in the rebirth series
@Kaiju-bm4ts3 ай бұрын
@@benjaminwalters2188 He never lost his arm in the showa era so that doesn't count if he "nearly" lost it. Even then gamera losing his arm in g3 wasn't meant to be a recall back anyway. Him losing his arm in rebirth is however a callback to g3

I'd definitely would be excited too see Gamera introduced into the Monsterverse , with Godzilla & Kong
@Thechezbailey Жыл бұрын
That would be so good! Definitely the most likely way we'd see them together too.

Gamera isn't as popular in the west for something like that to happen
