Cheating invalidates your skill so prove yourself by doing it correctly. Get the speediest time on your own.

I always trick myself into thinking that I'll like playing a charismatic/persuasive build in video games. Every time the option is given to talk my way through a situation it is never given the same focus or level of engagement as combat or stealth. Combat encounters are often heavily involved, with care being given to balance, skill, load out, level design, mechanics, and variety, while talking things out rarely consists of more than picking the right dialog option, passing a simple skill check, or maybe having to read a specific piece of information beforehand. There is an art of conversation that I love using in tabletop roleplaying games, but never comes through properly in video games. It's pretty much a given at this point that if a game gives the choice of combat or persuasion, then it's really saying that combat is the default and persuasion is an alternative, yet for some reason I will always put all of my points into speech trees.

Falcon, I have got to say, and I can honestly say this with hand held on heart, I have never EVER once rage quit a game. If I can't get past a part on a game, I back track, see what I have missed, maybe go make myself a coffee, and think logically and calmly. Even in competitive games, I have never rage quit. Anyone who knows me has always asked me how I am so calm about every game I have ever played (and I have been playing for 30 years) which I reply "they are just games, there are more frustrating things in real life, and games do not test my patience or calm" Maybe I am one of the people that have a zen-like calm while I am playing video games, or maybe in the back of my mind I just know that there are bigger things to worry about besides getting mad at something that is made to entertain. I cannot fault you where predicting is concerned though. I can't predict whether I will, in the future, rage quit. But after 30 years of gaming and never rage quitting once, I would say the chances are pretty low. No, I am not fooling myself, I am stating facts. uuuh, the wise words of the falcon ^^ oke oke i getcha, some minor things though: 1. some people will actually get a *worse* result when playing with pro-equipment. if your aim is shit, a lagfree experience might actually drag you down, rather than boost your performance. 2.the game-racer-setup isn't really about realism, it's for the immersion you will get in any given racing game. (i know you were talking a bit more about the fact that some ppl think they could translate that skill to a real race, but i think the majority of players buying expensive setups like that are thinking more like i described it). 3. this is more like an addendum to the stuff you said. i don't do "work" and i quit school two decades ago, and i STILL can't finish all the games i have installed on my rig. i still have to play through horizon, god of war, RDR2, RE7, cyberpunk, the ori sequel (thank god i finished the first one), DMC 5, cuphead (66% -.-), nier automata, persona 5, PERSONA STRIKERS ( :/ ), the outer worlds (lost my savegame twice after finishing every quest on the space station) and a bunch of other games i haven't even started yet. last point, 4: if someone *decides* to stay in a team that loses several times in a row, it's their own fault (except when staying because of RL connections to his team mates, but in that case said player should have insisted on non-ranked matches just for fun). btw, that overwatch footage was *really* old ^^ i almost forgot torb had to "lvl up" his turret at one time before he got reworked :D

Yes, that's called balancing the fucking game, would it be more realistic if rubber banding wasn't a thing ? Yes, but MK is not a simulator, it's an arcade experience, it's supposed to be fun. If rubber banding didn't exist, playing singleplayer would be boring (want proof ? Look at any shovelware kart game, most of them don't have rubber banding), you would just be driving alone way ahead of the AI in a lower or medium difficulty or be left behind eating dust every single race in a higher difficulty.

Even blue shells are avoidable, you just need to learn how. You are blaming a design decision that's there to actually help you and make the game more fun (by adding conflict, again, it would be boring as fuck if the game was a cake walk every single race like you want it to be) when your problem is actually lack of skill (in a game that doesn't even have that high of a skill ceiling, if you learn to drift you can win anything).

@@grabs_zel4547 oh my god you’re an actual troll. The COMPUTER randomly chooses in a race when to hit you with a shell or hit you with a bullet to send you flying back in the race. You ever wonder why you’re always beating your friend and then immediately sent to the other end of the race right before the final lap only for them to get a win out of nowhere almost all the time? And there’s nothing you can do about it bc at that point it’s statistically impossible for you to catch up and win now especially with the artificial difficulty deliberately designed to prevent you from progressing? Get out of here and sit down you fanboy. You’re is straight up lying and it’s actually embarrassing. You are just bending over backwards to praise poor design meant to appease children who don’t know better and utterly lying to push this idea that artificial difficulty and unfair random chance design is somehow good bc “ai isn’t supposed to lose to you when you’re playing good Uh duh you’re supposed to have fun by having no control over wether you win or not Uh duh” Get out of here you’re lying through your teeth. Rubber banding wouldn’t be needed if you weren’t being sent behind all the others in a race. You’re trying to justify a mechanic that pushes you to the end of a race completely contrary to your skills bc sometimes it randomly chooses to boost you closer to the front but as soon as you get to the front you’re just gonna be hit by a randomly generated item that you cannot avoid or counter and have no choice but to lose your progress even if you’re 3 laps ahead of your friends and there is nobody nearby to target you with the item in the first place. You ever wondered by so many speed runs of the games have been ruined by random blue shells literally the instant they get to the final lap even though nobody cast the shell in the first place?. Also never fucking said it’s unfair even though it factually is, I was saying falcon was being unfair bc the game was LITERALLY against you and didn’t want you to win when he claimed you’re just bad

Racing games actually helped me out at one point a few years ago. It was raining and my car just suddenly kicked out while I made a turn in a roundabout (tyres were worn out). The same thing I do in racing games, I immediately let go of the throttle and start counter steering. Managed to control the car and my dad was speechless 😂

@@SlayerRunefrost I enjoy the TLOU games mostly for their immersive and brutal combat and also have to agree that the first one was a little overrated for it's time. Especially the story wasn't that special how everyone made it out to be. Even though it had a good twist at the end. I'll have to say though that I really enjoyed the second one. Games like Gran Tourismo definitely give you better skills as a driver. They give you an accurate weight and feel of cars so you know you can't just whip the steering left and right like an arcade game and expect the car not to roll or slide. In 1st person mode they give you good spacial awareness of the size of the car. They teach you proper line taking on the road. Growing up playing driving sims and now a driver of over 10 years I think that grasping these concepts before I was able to drive was an advantage and made me a better driver.

This is without a doubt the most accurate video game video I've ever seen. I've fallen victim to many of these. For example, bought Skyrim on sale for $15. Do I ever plan to play it? I seriously have no idea. The last game I sunk 100 hours into was RDR2 and that was before I got married and started grad school. Now, I play maybe 5 hours a week if that with my PS5 and I'm satisfied with my gameplay time. Games are just a hobby for me now but I still love them and know when to quit.

I never thought I can do this in the racing game, so I can in real life. That said there were a couple things from racing gaming that has translated. The proper cornering absolutely really applies to real life. - Decelerate before the turn, turn through the turn, accelerate out of the turn for the most control, over your vehicle. The whole let the tires do one job at a time for best traction is something I learned from sim racing, before real driving. It's also good for wear on the related car parts. The other thing I would say is a bad habit. Technically, this is something that impacts my walking (so maybe it isn't a video game thing? IDK), not just driving. Once I have a really good feel for the dimensions and controls of a vehicle (maybe even a little too soon) that spacial awareness and control translates to the bad habit of getting the vehicle too close to stationary objects (moving objects or objects that can move I don't have this problem with, even though you get close to them in games, too), because I'm confident it isn't going to make contact. I have not been wrong, but it isn't worth the risk and I don't want to make others uncomfortable. Since I'm aware of it, I try to remember to keep more space.

I set unrealistic quotas for myself all the time like "I expect to be at this stage in the game by this time." Then I become frustrated when things don't go as planned, say something like "I'll stay up all night if I have to" in order to clear an obstacle of some kind. Gradually I get more stressed, tired, making increasingly stupid mistakes, and ultimately burning out while failing to meet my "quota" and just go to sleep. Then I wake up in the morning and clear in 15 minutes what I wasted hours on the night before, "why did I waste so much time on this?" I've learned to take appropriate breaks between 1 hour sessions of gaming.

The racing game making you a better driver myth is based on some studies that show that playing driving games improves situational awareness and reaction times. It doesn't make you a better driver, it makes you less likely to get into an accident. So kind of a better driver? But also...not.
