Haven't watched the series yet didn't realise you made it until today (will get to it soon, have stuff to do) BUT I do have my thoughts on Stellar Blade I LOVED IT, It's clear there was a LOT of love put into it, it would've been awesome if it was longer but that's a big ask for a studio making their first non-mobile game, especially when it was already 40 hours or so. Pretty much my ONLY real gripe, like a decent amount of people, is the censorship. Oh and as soon as I heard the English voices I did switch to Korean. Other than that it's a beautiful game (the elevator OML it's so good) and quite possibly my game of the year unless a certain game about silk releases... A few things related, I bought my PS5 off a guy on eBay so I didn't give extra money to Sony. After deciding to buy the digital deluxe edition bc there was no physical deluxe, I hear on release night that the game has been censored, so I then also bought a physical edition so I could at least have the uncensored 1.0.0 version on my shelf :P (I did test it once and it was glorious, but it did bug my collectibles inventory :P) I'm really hoping Sony does grant permission to Shift Up to release a PC version, it's heavily implied by Shift Up that they (Shift Up) want to release one. And if it does happen and it's successful one must wonder if Sony would then allow FromSoftware to release Bloodborne to PC. :))))) But enough yapping, looking forward to watching this series because I liked your sexualization in gaming videos. If I have anything to say by the end I'll be back in these comments.

True, I do understand that I have to put the pitchfork down and pick up my games and have fun with them. BUT I have learned my lesson. Gatekeep, gatekeep, gatekeep. If you want games like Nikke to stay as they are, give tourists no purchase within your community. Corruption in 4 steps 1. We demand inclusion in your space to make it more diverse and inclusive. 2. We demand you change this space to our liking and ban stuff that offends us. 3. We demand you to be kicked out of this space because you offend us. 4. If you hate us, why not make your own space? I hate this as I was raised by a narcissist who uses the same tactics as these game journos. A conservative, even. The tactics of terrible people are the same no matter which side they're on. As noted in the Narcissist's prayer; That didn't happen. And if it did, it wasn't that bad. And if it was, that's not a big deal. And if it is, that's not my fault. And if it was, I didn't mean it. And if I did, you deserved it. Anyway, great job with the full series. What are you planning to do now? Gonna vanish like after the end of the Body Image vids? And pop up when something interesting is happening?

One of the things that made it hard for me to come out to myself as trans was how politicized being trans is. I've always liked stories about and tackling characters who cross the boundaries of gender, but pretty much all the ones i like are from japan because the subject is breaked without all this forced hardline political baggage. Usually, these people have little to day about the trans experience, but instead just the current sociopolitical junk surounding our existence in current year, and it's tired as heck. Im also extremely insulted by all the forced body changes to female characters supposedly to be less insensitive to transpeople. So many of us have used videogames as a way to escape dysphoria or find ourselves thanks to videogames providing more prefered and idealized bodies. Its like the most benevolent transphobia ever intentionally masculinizing these characters while saying its to be considerate to us. We dont like it and all it does is make everyone else understandably fed up with us. I also cant stand this anti-female stereotype meme. I like cooking. I like flashy fashion. I also like cute and or sexy female characters, especially when they kick ass. Its fine if not everything needs to be that way, but we dont need to erase it either. >:T

I'd always take an IDEALIZED version of myself because I aspire to that ideal because it feels good to be it. I want huge, hulking, beastly men that I can project onto. But that only means I appreciate when they're there. As long as the character doesn't bore my tits off I can honestly take anyone based on how good the game is, and considering that I love Jene, Dante, Bayo, you can see that I'm not opposed to different characters, if only they have SWAGGER, which is the key word here. I'll immediately love a character's design if he feeds into my power fantasy. I don't get this preference over beautiful women, ngl, but hey it doesn't mean I mind characters that cater to you and not so much to me...as long as-again-the game itself is good and/or the character is fun. I need games that are for me. I don't need every game to be for me. Hell, if I got what I wanted every time I might not have even realised just how great, say, Hades is. I dislike isometric games, the artstyle's not for me even if it is interesting but the dialogue HOO LAAAWD the dialogue.
@BludSpammd6 ай бұрын
The answer is to buy games with sexy women in it. Cause at least it's free from radical politics and got more freedom of creativity with the devs doing whatever they want without trying to appeal to an underrepresented demographic.
@Furebel6 ай бұрын
Even Hades 2 would not pass those Microsoft guidelines... Main character is not wearing proper armor, the greek gods are cultural apropriation that has been americanized, prominent female character is just purely naked, zero clothes... Microsoft is selling and producing more games that break all those guidelines logically. I don't think those guidelines mean anything, they're probably there just so they would be able to show shareholders that they're on trend, and could use those guidelines to force some of their devs to stay in line when they want.

I think the incident should have been investigated at least to test whether Zoe's claim had any merit. I don't know what the solution is... On one hand I feel like false accusations deserve the full punishment of the crime accused (ie if you falsely accuse someone of SA, you serve the punishment for SA) but at the same time that would cause less people to report when they should report so 🙄... I'm too stupid to figure it out but I hope someone will one day.
@adrianalexanderveidt3446 ай бұрын
@@livaveragegamer That is actually an idea I share myself. There was a case in the states a few years back of an ex-girlfriend accusing her ex-boyfriend of brutal SA, and the one thing that saved him were photos that he had uploaded to Facebook of him being with his family. These photos proved that he was at that time 3 states away from where the false SA allegedly happened. He was facing over 90 years in prison for this. In a clean cut case like this, his ex-girlfriend who made the false allegations should absolutely have received that full sentence instead.

These videos are incredible. I never really had the time or energy to dig into Gamergate so when it's sequel Gamergate 2.0 was announced I had no idea what was going on. I only knew that feminism, the far right and gaming was somehow involved. But damn you really did a great job researching, disecting and explaining it in simple terms. Especially your metaphors are on point.
@EmmisonMike6 ай бұрын
Growing up I had difficulty with the term Feminism because I had the understanding that it was specifically to the exclusion of men. My big aha moment for that was when I learned that mainstream feminism isn't anti-men, but pro-egalitarianism. I love egalitarianism, it's so much simpler than sussing out what the hierarchy is, it's so much easier to defend than contriving reasons to make someone feel small. I get that a lot of people who have received incredible oppression from white supremacist patriarchy want to fight back, like David and Goliath. The problem with this picture is that David grew up to be a bit of a goliath himself. Getting rid of the bad guy isn't enough, because the violence currently used as default to dismantle oppressive powers are excellent training to become an oppressor yourself. The hope that supports egalitarianism is the truly radical assertion that ironically "radical feminism" shies away from: the end of Goliath, by any face.
@livaveragegamer6 ай бұрын
That's a great analogy... I mean, yes, David went around collecting the foreskins of his enemies and sent one of his generals to die so he could sleep with his wife haha. I'm glad you mentioned that you had a problem getting the message from the name. "Feminisim" is the most short sighted name possible for a truly egalatarian movement. As dumb as it may sound, I wouldn't be surprised that it's co-opted for radicalism because the name attracts bad actors at face value.

33:15 agreed. great video and series as a whole. I think there's so much stuff going on all the time, it's like the coastline paradox, the closer you look, the more there is. and I think I couldn't put a better spotlight on a sexist or racist (in any direction) than they themselves do by spouting their opinions online, as they tend to do. I think we've reached a point where even normies are seeing the cracks. SBE-detected didn't grow to 300k users because there were 300k "angry gamers". I think the pushback that is happening against DEI practices is more mainstream than knowledge or participation of OG gamergate ever was. I am wary of what you said in the beginning, that things might boil over too far with groups like this and turn into a hate mob. But as a bystander/nonparticipant I have the privilege of having opinions, keeping them within my friend circle and judge all sides/people based on their actions. In the end for me it boils down to this: I'll keep playing games I think will be fun. I'll keep avoiding games that I think are made by people that have a disdain for me or my interests. and in the meantime I'll keep cooking up my own small games. thanks for the series. I found it comedic that you kept using nikke footage, in particular of content that literally just came out. new character releases, new video 2 days later has clips of that character in action 😂man's on the grind

Didn't fully watch video yet, so I wont conclude anything about your video. But one thing I'd like to mention regarding the sentiment about not pushing back and becomming the monsters we are fighting... As someone involved in the first Gamergate. This is exactly what the pro-GG people DID. They all put down their pitchforks and called it a day because we got sites like niche gamer, Jeremy's game community that flopped shortly after, etc. We got 'alternative gaming journalistic outlets', so the vast majority of pro-gg supporters said 'jobs done', and called it a day. I was of the opinion then, and still have that opinion they quit too soon. The bad actors on the other side aren't a sovereign country that is reluctant to cross boundaries for fear of international reprisal. They're a virus whose very intent is to just spread and destroy everything all the time. Getting a little territory and thinking they will leave us alone on it is only going to result in you having to have a bigger battle on y our hands further down the line. It's true that less-mindful folks (who exist on both sides of every conflict) don't know when to stop once they pick a side in a battle, but those very same types of people aren't going to listen to you when you say 'careful guys, we don't want to cross this line'. Rather they will just stop when the mob does, and I think the MORE-mindful people on t his particular battle have already proven t hat we are NOT prone to taking things too far, if anything, they are too naive, and are too quick to call for peace and let the same bad actors ruin everything again. I'm not saying gamers need to destroy all the other guys completely. But we certainly need to push back until we have a MAJORITY of the hobby again, as WELL as the RESPECT of the mainstream, and THEN we can say jobs done and EVEN THEN, we need to gatekeep these bad actors OUT of the industry.
@livaveragegamer6 ай бұрын
I totally get where you're coming from. You'll get to it later in the video, In my opinion there's a few things that need to happen to break the echo chamber or existing cathedral. This will be a topic for another video. Because yeah, I think the gamergate series needs to end but there's a lot that can be done to make the hobby better so I'll talk about that soon.
@Shifft-This6 ай бұрын
12:30 How about we include gamers, and exclude activists. Activists don't belong in the gaming community. 23:15 This is pretty much why I'm anti censorship. We need our video game developers to have as few rules (in my opinion none at all except "make a game that will sell") as possible. The more rules you have, the more your game is censored by corporate at the concept and development stage.
@jaidora6 ай бұрын
This is only a tiny complaint about the culture war crap that's been burning me down, Stellar Blade was advertised as uncensored so for certain outfits and other miscellaneous things getting patched up counts as censorship. In that situation, players do have the right to complain but it's nothing vital to make into a mountain. One thing that this video did unfortunately made me realize is that I've lost a lot of interest in gaming over nonsensical drama for liking specific games or how others deem is safe to appreciate. I'm pretty sure I'm going to enjoy the Paper Mario Thousand Year Door remake when it comes out and maybe I'll consider buying Stellar Blade when it gets ported over; both Sony and Microsoft have burned any remaining hope I had in them for regaining their audience's good graces so whatever happens to them will be just that. With that said and done, great video. Now to decide if I can play some of those games you had shown up but probably will forget in a few minutes or if my wallet says "not until the end of the month".

I'm so bummed out that I don't see the apparent brilliance of stellar blade...there just isn't much there. Story isn't anything special with poorly written characters, level design is less than stellar and engaging, combat is so disjointed. Puzzles and platforming are below basic. Wish they just made a Bayonetta clone. We need more traditional action games and using attractive females is a perfect way to do it. In the action genre being oversaturated with souls and sekiro likes. We once had Bayonetta (when it was good) and ninja gaiden with its kickass ladies alongside ryu. I think pure hack and slash games or more classic god of war/classic 3d zelda games are a perfect fit to bring back with attractive female leads. The only damage i think stellar blade does is continue to reinforce that souls/sekiro likes are the only action games that are profitable and as someone who doesn't typically enjoy those games......yeah im kinda bummed. I'll give the blood Rayne remasters a shot.
@livaveragegamer6 ай бұрын
I have a few friends that feel this way. It's nothing to be bummed about. Stellar blade is just not a bayonetta or nier automata in terms of gameplay. It's also been a long time since we've see a really good "platinum" game. I'm playing the game in korean so I guess I may not notice the writing as much. Anyways, Stellar blade is great for some but we are long overdue for a good action game like bayonetta. Hope we get one soon.
@chozochiefxiii32986 ай бұрын
@livaveragegamer They're just not profitable anymore I don't think. After Team Ninja fumbled Ninja gaiden 3 and were successful with Nioh they just didn't look back. I hold out hope but I think the new trend for a lot longer will be soulslikes. Bayonetta 3 was also divisive so even platinum may be losing their edge it's hard to say.
