You can tell by the way you talk Ray about fixes and also seeing your filing cabinet your must be of very high standards. I like high standards. And also thanks for sharing your knowledge. I am not an electronics man myself and leave everybody to their own thing but I did learn about diodes and solder. :)

The lamp board sockets you talk about @20:40 are such a pain. World Cup Soccer has these on the Coin Toss (skill shot), and all 3 of mine have broken. Worst socket design, ever.

Good god, Ray is the Zen master of the philosophy behind quality work. I love this guy. Also, I'm glad I was introduced to soldering when I was in high school, cause now I actually enjoy doing it. It also helps having an electrical engineering background when learning about these systems, though a tech degree would actually be more useful for this type of hands on stuff.

Been re-watching these tech tips as I am thinking about getting back to my High-Speed pin here soon. :) And I think I may have a lot of sockets to replace most of them are resty especially inside the lamps. And I noticed on that WoZ board it looked like a green fish.

Nice. When I have a lamp PCB out of the game to re-flow cracked header pins, I also re-flow the twist-socket pads if they are very divotted. Cleaning the areas to be soldered with 91% Iso or lacquer thinner helps a lot, before and after. I also like the liquid rosin flux, but a little goes a long way. Also needs to be carefully cleaned up after, but it makes nice shiny clean joints - "Mt Fuji"-style.

Helllo About replacing SMD components (on the JJP), there absolutely nothing impossible to do. It's just another set of skills to get ! Baking: well yes the air transport the heat, the solder is not a wire but a mix of microball and flux. In the end it is a real joint, same as with iron. Search "Louis Rossmann on youtube. He fixes iPhone&Mac and probably can learn/train a pro (Ray) to do it. Every single LED is probably listed on providers like Arrow, Mouse or Digikey.

Hi Ray, if you were to build a pinball machine today from scratch do you have a recommendation on the type of lamp socket to use? It seems like there are pros and cons to all of these. Thank you
@DEADB33F
@DEADB33F 6 жыл бұрын
You're supposed to put 'bulb grease' (dialectric grease) on the contacts *before* they corrode. That way the grease prevents the contacts being exposed to the elements so no moisture gets to them, and then they won't corrode in the first place. For replacing SMD components by hand you just need solder paste and a hot air rework station.

Oh and had an interesting but maybe stupid idea. When you replace the stapled down light sockets under the playfield do you leave or replace the one's in the back box? Just a thought I had most likely not a good one but just a thought.

Hey ray grate videos i love watching them, quick question i bought a pinball cab and the 100 relay isn't working properly, i cant find any problems at all. i did notice it wasn't grounded and it must have been at one point because of where the power chord goes on the em board the ground section had a blob of solder on it. so my question is should i put the ground back on the board and can the ground not being connected cause such problems. keep up the good work.

am waiting to check with ray for an "official" answer. my first thought concurred with jimmy - bridge rectifier, but there are other components in that line. flipper switches come to mind also. will follow up with some confirmed ideas later today. thanks for watching & commenting!

Thanks for videos.. I noticed the coin slot doors etc... in the back do you ever sell used but functional parts? Even in a previous video you just thru away the apron do you ever sell those?

We sell TONS of functional used parts in our eBay store! Please visit: stores.ebay.com/GAMEROOM-COLLECTIBLES The apron toss was for dramatic effect to emphasize how whoever put the TNT Amusements sticker on it had ruined the factory artwork. Keep watching and you'll learn ad nauseam about all that. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYipopRuopWNo5I Thanks for viewing and commenting!

I wonder has any one made "updated" lighting for older SS games like my H-S? And if not I should look into doing my own update for the lamp sockets. I am not a fan of the chained sockets like in my H-S as if you have one or more out you have to replace that whole chain which is annoying. o.O I guess another thing I could do is put in separate sockets but then I'd have to still link them all up again.

+PinBallReviewer i have a high speed as well, great game!!! i also have a firepower which plays great but has some bad sockets im not entirely sure how to deal with the bulb issues because as you said they are daisy chained

andrew donohue Have you put in new light sockets in? I'd start there especially if the sockets are really rusty. A bunch of sockets in my Space Mission EM are rusty but they still work but for how long. Lol

change bridge rectifier on board yet? that may help flipper
@GRCPinballOfficial

ray confirms, bridge rectifier. otherwise, it kinda is what it is - an old game. wasn't designed to have "extra" flipper power. modding it otherwise? unknown procedure. ask around! ;)
