Joel, Abby and Ellie all are similar in the way that they were bloody and don't trust people but then change to be more peaceful. Joel grew older and by that experience he have changed (that's why he helped abby). Abby was bloody and merciless, but what changed her is the journey with the kid (lev) that story changed her and made her merciful. Ellie also started to be bloody when Joel died and started killing blindly but after she lost Jessie, dina, and almost Tommy she knew that she is on the wrong path. Ellie didn't kill abby at the end because she saw lev which symbolizes (victims of their problems, the loss that that path causes, humanity). Pls inform if you knew that cuz many people don't.

@adamscott1980 4 жыл бұрын
They did see each other off camera, because they would have had to have the conversation of movie night - we know this because of Dina and Ellies conversation about it on the start of their journey! Edit: I was inorrect! Wishful thinking steered me wrong. I realize Ellie was going to ask Joel in the morning; but like I say in my following comments - it's amazing that we even get to have these open conversations.🙂

I think it would be harder for her, but there would nothing that she could do then. Joel is already dying when Ellie comes in. Also it was very hard for Ellie to let Abby live in the end, imagine how deep into this wish for revenge Abby is after training for it, searching for him and having mental issues for four years. What she sid to Joel isn't something she would usually do and during the story it becomes clear, that she is not as tough as she seems and even capable of forgiving someone, even if this person killed all her friends and the love of her life.

@@nils5436 It was pretty clear Abby wasn't this savage barbarian who's just comically evil. She spared both Tommy and Ellie despite knowing damn well they'll come back to hunt her for revenge. That's not his character, though. Joel never "wanted" anything for Ellie other than happiness and a life in peace, but unfortunately, the reason for that was because HE wanted that for himself, and he needed Ellie there with him for it. Ellie wanted to die there. Joel didn't want her to die there. Not because he wanted a meaningful life for her. Because he couldn't lose another daughter. That's the entire point of this scene is that Ellie will try to forgive and understand that part of him, the part that refused to let her have any choice in the matter.

There was an interview with Ashley, Troy, and Neil after the game came out and they went over the behind the scenes process of Joel's death scene. Troy's recount of the process was incredibly profound to me: he said that by the end of it a lot of the crew were gathered around him making sure he was okay, but if there was anyone he was the most concerned about, it was Ashely. He knew what happened to her with her father. Those reactions she had in that scene were basically her tapping into that memory of losing her father.

The thing about Joel’s death even so many years later is he was like a father figure to many people whether you have a real dad in your life or not. Joel was willing to do anything for Ellie as if she were his own. Watching him die was painful, it was literally like losing a father

To that last guy, the reason Ellie is fixated upon that one action of Joel's in the hospital is not because she has a hero complex, but rather because she has a massive case of survivor's guilt. Look at it from her perspective: 1) She was supposed to die with Riley, but she didn't. She found no reason why it was her and not Riley. And even worse, she blames herself for Riley's death because Riley made it out, but came back for her. 2) She thinks that if Tess hadn't taken that job, she wouldn't have died. 3) She also feels that travelling with her got Henry and Sam killed. (By this point, she has already resigned it to herself that being with her means death for everyone, except Joel) 4) Ultimately, she reasoned to herself that she was kept alive for one reason only - the cure. And mentally she had already made the decision that that's how she's going to make sense of her life, even if she were to die.

Thank you for breaking it down, I’m not sure most people understand how deep her guilt can feel, it’s easy to dismiss if you don’t give it much thought. I think the game did a really good job of conveying how she makes sense of everything and that it can feel quite complicated
@annabethchase2569
@annabethchase2569 4 жыл бұрын
@@afraidsari I think it is partly caused by people internally assuming the first game ended with a perfect happy ending with roses and sunshine. As how it usually is with games that do not have a sequel already planned out. They thought everyone was happy at the end of the first and continued as such. But such an ending was a farce, upheld only on the thin legs of Joel's lie. The cracks started to show almost immediately after Ellie started to question Joel's lie (the birthday arc) and everything came back even fiercer when she realized she was the potential cure, and the price was merely her life which she never felt she deserved anyways.

Love Berlin but I disagree. Ellie never shies away from danger to save anyone. She sees her having a link/key to make an advancement for humanity in this never ending battle with 20+ years of deadly infections as an opportunity. A freakin good arse chance for humanity and willing to sacrifice herself for it. That maybe her being born without her parents, that people came and go from her life or when her first love died is the reason for her to have such life is because she holds the cure within her. This is why her life needs to matter to her. Joel lied that there were others with the same "gift" and it meant NOTHING. Joel has his reasons but that does not take away that what he did was selfish. Hope was there. A cure and a top brain surgeon but Joel took that away. So what kind of heart should Ellie hold? Joel didn't hold her heart or any other's into consideration but his own.

I think Iberleezy kinda missed Ellie’s point in “my life would’ve fucking mattered”...her best friend and first love was bitten WITH her and Ellie had to watch her slowly turn into an infected and then, it doesn’t show it of course, but we can assume Ellie had to be the one to kill Riley too. Ellie has spent every day since that moment “waiting for her turn” to die as she likes to put it. So to be able to die for a cause that could save other people from that fate would’ve been important to her. She was already supposed to die when she was bitten anyway. I think she probably feels it’s the least she could do with her life, and THAT is why she’s pissed at Joel for taking that option away.

tall midget I mean Ellie spent that whole time wishing she could help other people become immune...so she could do something good, even if it meant sacrificing herself (because again, she was supposed to die anyway). And then on top of that she was lied to about it for YEARS after. She knows Joel did it because he loves her...but you can’t just expect her to get over something like that. Something that her choice should’ve been taken into consideration for. Joel betrayed her trust and I think it’s pretty easy to understand how she feels in that regard. Also take into consideration she was only like 17 when she stopped talking to Joel and she’s still only 19 when she starts to forgive him. She’s just a kid.

Bailee H but the doctors didn’t care about her well being, that it was going to kill her and they didn’t care because there could be the slightest CHANCE at a cure, which in of itself is moot in factual circumstance due to there being no such thing as a cure to a fungal disease, especially at the time of 2013 or 2014 technology. Just based off of my knowledge to make a slightly informed guess. Ellie should’ve realized that what he did was gave her a chance to grow old in a small community surrounded by people who love her and know her. With friends and protection. He failed to protect his biological daughter in the beginning, so he was given a second chance and he wasn’t going to let that happen again to the girl he can call his daughter figure.

This game series was amazing it brought you a realistic view on just how random and untelling life can be ,its not always good vibes. you suffer and learn to live with the suffering but those small moments where you feel that warmth from seeing elie's and joel's relationship develop and them just trying to live there life as normally as they can in their situation and trying to have fun in it. Is something we can all relate to maybe not as bad as they have it, but we all suffer in someway. both games were great it was like watching your life come up and watching it crash in ways you could never understand. The fact that you dont feel right in your gut and heart with the ending prove how deep you were in and tragedy hit you and now you have to learn to live with that pain how elie did/does.this game teaches you so much that your lost in emotion.

this game perfectly shows how real human beings would react in a situation like this. If you had lost your child, and essentially found a new relationship with someone who filled that hole and became a parental figure for them, like Joel to Ellie, you would do anything to keep that person in your life so that you would not feel that loss again. On the other hand, if your parent had been murdered for doing their job or trying to do what they believe is 'right', you would make it your mission to get justice for what happened. People who are shitting on Abby saying that she's an awful person, to be honest, everyone is awful, no one is good or bad, right or wrong, they are just human, sorry bout it. thank you for coming to my ted talk

Dude, this was the first and so far, the only game to ever make me cry. I think what gets me every time is the fact that Ellie was willing to work to forgive Joel, and she was gonna do that the same day he died but Abby killed him before she could even try. And I will say, Joel messed up, he did, but I won't go as far as to say he's the worst because he already lost so much in his life and "saving" Ellie was the one chance, the one time he would have someone in his life who he didn't lose. Yes, it was at a major cost and I wish Joel didn't kill the doctor because you could've done that moment a billion different ways, but killing the doctor was what he chose to do in that moment; it might be unforgivable, but many people can't say they wouldn't have done the same thing and the doctor can't say he wouldn't have the same thing if it was Abby. We make sacrifices for the ones we love and sometimes it comes at a cost, but being selfish for once in your life and keeping that person in your life for a lot longer than what was supposed to happen is a human thing to do. Sorry for the long paragraph, I had to get this out.

@@pepeesq.7966 The fact he did it for a selfish cause is what isn't heroic. However, thinking of it realistically, these doctors were "heroically" willing to kill an innocent girl they know nothing personal about, to possibly make some kind of "cure". That strain of cordyceps protecting Ellie, likely wouldn't have saved anyone else because it's basically hardwired to her alone. If they meant to extract the strain and put it in someone else, why not have Ellie just bite people and spread it by those means, huh? Of course, I wouldn't expect a teenager with no access to fungal research to understand that (Ellie). 99.9% of the outcome would have been Ellie dying for nothing and Marlene putting a bullet between that doctor's eyes for being full of shit, then Abby going after Marlene, assuming she didn't kill her as well. That's what makes Abby's dad the "only one" who can reverse engineer a vaccine. Because he's freaking delusional and thinks he could have. That alone is what screws the game's credibility in the first part, in terms of "Joel screwed everyone". Realistically, he saved a girl from being slaughtered by an idiot.

I think if you get to the point where you would say 'I'd like to try to forgive you', you are basically saying you have, but it's taking some time. I feel like that's the redeeming moment of the whole game. The only light in the miserable universe, but worth it. If she straight out said 'I forgive you', it wouldn't have fit with her character. Ellie isn't cheesy, so that was as close to full forgiveness as you could get from her.

I understand if people think this game is good, however i simply can't see the masterpiece that a lot of people make it out to be. I think tlou2 has a lot of narrative issues that hold the game back drastically. Like why kill off Joel purely because of shock factor and "subverting expectations" and not in a more meaningful way? They try to make us sympathise with Abby but imo they failed, and i couldn't care less about her. I understand her more, but i still hate her. Why is the pacing so off? Why are the characters all over the damn place? Why did they try to force a "revenge is bad" message in the end with no build up or little to no reason. Ellie abandons everything, only to realize that "revenge bad", and she decides to spare Abby. Fckn what? Ellie gets no justice in this game, and there dosen't seem to be a good reason as to why. While i can understand people liking this game, i just can't see this game as a masterpiece. Imo it just dosen't compare to the first, and it failed to follow up what that game laid out.

They had the balls to kill off a franchise-leading character that could have made them hundreds of millions of dollars in an extended series like Uncharted, but they did it anyway because it served the story they wanted to tell about Ellie learning to forgive Joel in the aftermath of TLOU 1. I totally respect your opinion, though I think if you go watch the interviews with Neil Druckman, Halley Gross, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson you'll see how much they sweated and cried over this game and the decision to kill Joel before pulling the trigger.

Sure, maybe in the real world. Within the world of the Last of Us, it's entirely possible. Ellie's immune because of a mutated strain of fungus which protects her from the bad strain. They wanted to extract the mutant strain and presumably infect and inoculate others with it. In theory, that would make them immune like Ellie.

HiIeric117 true true, it is a fictional world so who knows, right? But that just brings up the question about how can they replicate that specific strain that Ellie has?

After beating the first one I understood that Joel saved Ellie because she became like a daughter to him, and after losing his real daughter in the first Last of Us, it made sense that Joel could not bare the thought of a somewhat similar situation happening again and I believe that took the place of rational thinking and he acted. Hands down the best game series I’ve ever played.
