One of the many things I absolutely love about Danganronpa is its nature to throw in bizarre twists and turns into the storyline throughout its series. But my god, I don’t think there is anything that can come close in shock factor compared to this scene as you begin to see the true nature of the killing game unfold right in front of you. Regardless of what experiences the player holds to the series, whether they’re novice or advanced, this scene has mindf**ked every person’s mind to some degree.

I don't know about you, but i do a big pile of video games ever since i was only 4 years old. I've seen many games that would definitely raise an eyebrow or two. But let me tell you, that when i did this trial for the first time, i felt numb. My head felt like it was going to fucking explode like that one guy in scanners. Full blown existential crisis. There was no turning back. You know a game hit the mark when you find yourself contemplating your own existence after the credits roll.

This was the perfect character they could've chosen for this reveal. It's known to us that Hajime had a very dark and evil fall from grace and we spent the last game playing as him, so having him casually reappear like this elicits a very startling reaction. Having anyone else would have been just as confusing, but the freight factor would not have translated. He looks so plainly evil even though nothing's changed about him at first glance.

And for a brief second, not only everything that you believed about this game was thrown out the window, but it also shattered the windows of the previous ones as well. You are left with a hundred questions all in a fraction of a second. Just a brilliant moment really.

The fact that he’s a man (and more traditionally masculine than Makoto) adds to the horror. It isn’t the crossdressing that’s scary, _it’s how good Tsumugi is at becoming a completely different person, physically and mentally._

Whenever people say it cheapened things, I don't really get that. Regardless if Danganronpa is real or a TV show, it's real to those involved. That's kinda the point Shuichi tries to make
