I don't think naughty dog intended for us to "like" or Abby. I think they were trying to make the player feel the same dread that the characters were feeling. That feeling of "I hate what I'm doing, but I have to do it" For the player that means we do it because we're driven to finish the game, even though we hate our character and what she's doing. Abby is overwhelmingly filled with that same sensation "I hate this but I have no choice". I truly think that this is the intention: Our feelings about Abby are exactly what she feels about herself. Our feelings about fighting Ellie, are exactly the same feelings Abby has. Our requirement to be successful even though we don't want to (in order to beat the game), is exactly Abby's feeling, she has to succeed even though she wishes she would die. I think the same principal holds true when we're controlling Ellie. I didn't want Ellie to leave the farm and she didn't want to either! But, The game is FILLED with moments that force the player to do things they might not want to do. I don't think the game's theme is simply saying "hate is bad". It's about making the player personally experience the complicated and seemingly unstoppable force that drives the lust for revenge.

If Abby was a villain, this would have made so much sense and would make a lot better story writing. But nooo Naughty Dog had to try to write a 'Difficult' writing. Neil is responsible, he went with this story, he went with this new Abby character, he said numerous times in interviews it will be a divisive game and many people will not like it! The actors are now paying the price for his mistakes! He should not have made it Divisive if he knew he would get the hate and criticism from fans which he is getting for the past 2-3 months. He did mess up and he is not owning up for his mistakes instead he is asking for sympathy not knowing how he terminated youtuber's accounts through false DCMA strikes. This is clearly a very controversial game. Though i do not condone death threats as it is too much! considering Actors do their job!

I don't even think it's just that Abby killed Joel. It's the way she did it. She spent years juicing to get ready, hunted that guy down over several states, had him shot in the leg so he couldn't leave, and bludgeoned him to death. Abby's father was willing to kill a teenage girl without consulting with them first (when it would have been more beneficial to keep her alive). Joel was far from innocent, but he didn't torture her father to death. She could have gotten her vengeance by shooting or stabbing him, but she gratuitously beat him to death. Most people are not going to be sympathetic of her if a similar situation played out IRL. Tommy, Jesse, and her willingness to let a pregnant woman slowly bleed out just cemented that she is not a good person and no amount of zebra saving, dog petting, or wall slamming s€x she has changes that for them.

No. I still love Joel and he is my favorite character. That said, he needed to die to provide a reason for the player to assume Ellie would venture out of the relative safety of the town. Hell, the internet was littered with "Joel's dead and Ellie is just seeing him there when telling him she was going to find and kill everyone" when the original reveal trailer dropped. Just because we understand why he needed to die, doesn't mean we are "false fans" or even, happy about him dying.

You know what gets me: During the time Tommy was in a struggle with Abby, Ellie could've taken a shot. There were a few seconds during that struggle where both Lev and Abby were distracted enough where they both left wide open for potential return fire. Now I can also acknowledge it's easy for me to say what a character could've done from the comfort of a couch, and not under an extremely stressful, adrenaline-filled, life-or-death situation too.

It's a good thing I have an insane love and appreciation for Laura Bailey, it made it easier for me to slip into Abby's shoes my first play through. I was super stoked that Laura was a main role in TLOU2 and couldn't wait to see what her character was gonna be like. And, I also have an insane amount of empathy anyway, so...that also helps. But my first play through, I remember my initial reaction when I realized the narrative wasn't going to switch back to Ellie was me being like, "Nooooo. I can't kill Ellie! Don't make me do this!" I didn't want Abby to die, per se. But I was definitely not okay with the idea of Abby killing Ellie, either. It created a super weird ambivalent feeling. Naughty Dog did fantastic with this game. This game isn't light and heartfelt in the way TLOU1 is. But both games are masterpieces in their own right.

Playing this part as Abby after she killed Jesse and looked like also Tommy was such a mistake Naughty Dog did. You can't sympathise more with Abby after playing 10 hours of game you definitely didn't wanted to, than with Joel and Ellie that you played a whole game that made you care about them. So making you play as her after she smashed the head of the character you played through the whole first game, killed Jesse and seemed like also killed Tommy; to go kill Ellie, the supposedly main character of this game, was something nobody wanted to do. Literally I don't know of someone that at doing this didn't wanted to be killed by Ellie so she could get her revenge. If they wanted the story to go where it went at least this part of the game should have be definitely a cinematic instead of a playthrough as Abby.
