The point of the game is that they both have the same right. And if we are being objective (which is not what they want us to do because this is all about emotion), Abby is MUCH MORE human and reasonable than Ellie, all things considered.

Is it totaly human to torture a suffocating woman just so she can give you the position of one person ? Is it totally human to kill every person you see to get to your objective ? In part 1, Ellie and joel (mostly) killed to survive and get by. In part 2, Ellie kills a lot of people not to survive but just to get to her end to kill Abby (which she didn't have to, unlike joel HAD to get ellie to the fireflies. Joel and ellie are literal scum and shitty people (Joel says it himself in the first hour of part 2 and repeatedly throughout). Abby's motivations and actions are just as legitimate if not objectively moreso than J&E. She lost the cure the mankind, killed only Joel and sparred tommy and Ellie, had all of her friends murdered. Abby is shitty too, being at war with and torturing scars, but that's cause she is trying to find a sense to her life (Ellie has the same problem). After killing Joel she feels empty inside. She ruined everything with Owen because of her pursuit with Joel. She finds her life sense in Lev just like Joel did with Ellie. Abby is a complicated character and is just as interesting as Joel, and objectively more likeable. (after part 2 I like Ellie and Abby equally, even though i'm still a lot more attached to Ellie because of 1 and Left Behind).

Right? Almost nobody in the apocalyptic world is a good person; you have to kill to survive, that's the whole point that the game makes in the first AND second game. I hate when people use that argument, Christ. I really loved the gameplay of the game but am on the fence about the storyline. I would've liked to see Joel go out in a more heroic way, like a lot of people who didn't like the game mentioned. They would've been okay with Joel's death had it given justice to his character. But it was weird to me, and to a lot of other people, how he immediately trusted everyone in that room. They seriously could've written his death better. Hell, I think they should've given us at least a little more time with Joel and Ellie just given the fact that we've waited 7 years for this game. Why they chose to go down the route of a new character's storyline baffles me. I tried to like Abby but really couldn't. The whole reason why we loved the first game is because the story between Ellie and Joel struck a chord with us, this idea that a man who lost his daughter was regaining that sense of fatherhood back. But instead of letting us experience it a little more, they just killed him off in what I honestly think is a stupid way.

Luca Smith it’s technically embellishment. A finer line doesn’t exist. I have been in ad/marketing for a long time and it’s nearly all verbal. Like what Hello Games did in promising certain features that don’t exist. I’m not arguing for it, just saying it’s a VERY common practice. So desperate to keep the secrets they end up creating a different narrative in a way. They set expectations that Joel will be there swapping him out with Jesse, so people who are disappointed that isn’t real have every right to be even more aggravated. Making people think Joel will be there throughout the game versus Hulk not coming out and Hulkbuster replacing him in Wakanda are VERY different as far as playing with expectations.

I really don't get why they chose to lie in the trailer like that. It's worse because knowing that part isn't real makes me wish it was in some way, shape or form. Imagine if Ellie occasionally hallucinates Joel throughout her journey. Would add some much needed exploration of their relationship that the few flashbacks we got couldn't bring to the table, I think. Hopefully their next title brings the quality of storytelling back to its former heights.

I hated Abby the entire game until they revealed why she did what she did. After that, I didn't blame her at all because I was not a fan of what Joel did at the end of the first game. Also the cure wasn't even 100% they just thought Ellie's brain might have a clue on how to develop a vaccine so if it didn't ellie would of died for nothing and the whole journey and everything they lost would of been for nothing. Also don't forget the amount of places inside the wall the fireflies bombed, you know that would of killed some innocent people, so basically at the start all they were was a terrorist group that promoted an uproar. Speaking of abby from the second game, first of all none of the fireflies were good people that includes her dad, also are we talking about the same abby that betrayed her group and friends? Also she tortured Joel not killing him instantly. The whole game was just pointless and all over the place especially the fact that Ellie doesn't even kill abby so the whole revenge plot and everything was pointless. The game overall looked amazing ill give it that but the story and characters were horrible and after them putting Joel in the trailer in scene's he wasn't even in tipped me over the edge cause it seemed Joel would be in more of the game but they scammed people Into thinking he was which he was a main character in the the first game and killed off like dirt in the first like 1 or 2 hours of gameplay and then making us play the killer like so stupid. Overall the game was just a massive scam and a political push for social justice warriors even thought they deny it was which is bull. All because of stupid Neil druckmann and him changing the lead writer to stupid Halley gross which was a horrible idea cause the original lead writer done a wonderful job on part 1 and Halley and Neil would of been the ones to push for social justice warrior bull. Neil and Halley ruined lou2 hands down waited 7 years for this trash 🗑.

@@superduck2568 what was the political push part? Let me say, I played the game going in not knowing the rumors and was shocked and angry that Joel was killed like that and so early. I realized it was his past catching up with him and suspected it was tied to saving Ellie. I agree, Abby and fireflies are not sympathetic even with back story. And fedra are horrible as well. Only real “good” is in towns like the one Joel and Ellie were living in. A straight revenge plot with Ellie could have saved it. Movies do this and people accept it a lot more even with main character being killed. This one I’m mixed on. It was enjoyablish, but no where close to first game. But what was political? The girl who shaved her head to be a boy? And no one @ me if that is improper way to describe the character. Female main characters should not be a political statement, nor lesbians. I give you they tried to shove the Abby likable factor down our throats but really you either accept it or don’t. In the end, Ellie’s faults are shown as well. A rewrite with Ellie tracking them all down and learning the true story along the way accomplishes the same thing with more satisfaction, even if she spares Abby in the end. You can keep the death and cut Abby gameplay and I think a lot of the hate would not have been.

Most of us aren't upset BECAUSE he died, hell, many of us were expecting him to and would be fine if Abby killed him, if it weren't for how quickly in the game he did, and how it happened. 2. I agree most people would go down the revenge route, and yes I personally understand why she didn't kill Abby, and I think she made the right call not killing her. I felt like a huge weight was lifted of my shoulders with the Joel flashback and when she didn't kill her. It amazing the game put me in Ellie's shoes in that moment, and I FELT what she felt and why she did it. However, I also understand other people's confusion on why she didn't finish Abby off when she killed many others before this. Again, since I felt like I was in her shoes I understand why she didn't do it, but for people waiting 7 years for this, I think the regular "Eye for an Eye" would've been more satisfying for players (whether Abby killed Joel then or later in the game).

This and ending of the game was honestly the worst part. Everything else was actually good like the graphics, fear elements and physics. But they just threw it all in the trash and for nothing.

@@cangri1788 Doesn't have to have a happy ending, but there was next to nothing uplifting about it except for flashbacks with Joel, just depressionfest 2020, story beats are just there for shock value. The gameplay and story are incredibly contradictory, at least put in a morality system or something. I think it's a pretty stupid business move too, who is going to be excited for a game 3 now? You killed off all the characters and left in a new one that most people hate regardless of backstory.

I see what Naughty Dog was tryna accomplish with this story by seeing what repercussions your actions have but they went about it the wrong way. Like they make you play with Abby damn near half the game later on, like they should have just gave her a small game prior to this without telling you anything about her connection to Joel. They try to show you a “softer” side of Abby but the damage is already done when they show her brutally murdering the main character (that we played with the WHOLE last game) in the first couple hours. A lot of people got attached to these characters from the first game like their own family so throwing a character in at the last minute and trying to make people feel some type of compassion for her was not a good idea.

Dizzle keep in mind I wrote this prior to finishing the game, although there were some times where I didn’t agree with what we had to do as a player I still enjoyed the game. But I do still believe that it would have been better if we got to play with Abby prior to this game. Felt kind of rushed to throw her whole life story in this game. Like I didn’t like that we had to fight Ellie I didn’t like that at all, because as players we’ve gotten attached to Ellie, whereas with Abby we just met her so it was tough going up against a beloved character. Like I said I’m very open on how I feel about this game, I didn’t hate it at all I just felt like they could have stretched the story out more and waited to kill Joel till at least the end but hey I’m not a game maker. I do hope we get a third though.

Rather than a whole game I think that the First half of the game should've been us playing as Abby and falling in love with her character and her friends (as they're on their way to Jackson unbeknownst to us) just for them to kill Joel in the same manner shown here, then play as Ellie going after them.

killing joel is like playing a game and diying right at the end and forgot to checkpoint at the hardest level so you have to redo it again and play the rest and then see your mom saying its time to do your homework while seeing your dad or mom tortured and then find the murderer and dont kill him bc he or she has plot armor
