I always LOVED the kid kitchen when I was in 1st grade. My kids loved the fake food and "cooking" it for their stuffed animals and dolls/GI Joes. Play-acting can entertain kids for a long time and it can be done outside if the weather is nice.

I tried the memory game with my 6 year old and she absolutely loved it. Its also a good way to get toys off the floor, and consolidated into one area, to then put away =)

Im the oldest of 6. My Mom lost her three youngest kids to their bio father (its a difficult story) me and the 4 year old are super close, but the two girls... Well its a different story... I'm a Granny. That age likes sorting and stacking. You can use anything. My granddaughter really enjoyed sorting the cookie cutters and measuring cups. Do you have plastic or metal bowls or cups? Sort by size shape or color. Or give her wooden spoons or plastic serving utensils to bang on a pot.
