Always love to see more people playing Rain World. It's such a special game, especially with the DLC.
@jevmenyt3422 Жыл бұрын
i feel like the DLC is a very fun piece of content but it really diludes the game identity, Downpour is a mod after all which was made with a very different ideology by different people and wrapped in a package by an inconveniently greedy publisher, i'd still reccomend players to play without the DLC first and when you sre hungry for more rain world you know where to find a second plate.
@clarfonthey Жыл бұрын
Oh, Downpour is definitely its own beast, and the best description of it is that it's honestly just officially endorsed, well-written fanfiction. I don't think that it dilutes the identity at all, honestly, but it's really a matter of taste.
@acquaintedfowl1767 Жыл бұрын
@@clarfonthey very good description in my opinion! not sure what you guys are getting on about with "diluting the identity", but i think i get the idea. for me it's moreso the change in community is my big issue- downpour being released ended up creating an industrial revolution in the community, making mods more accessible and easier to make (debatably less valuable and sought after), and it also sparked a whole new wave of rain world (specifically downpour) content being put onto the internet, pretty much resulting in downpour being a huge advertisement for the game and people coming to rain world because of it (though downpour is much more than just an advertisement)
@pallingtontheshrike6374 Жыл бұрын
there are individual points in downpour that might cause cringe in more trihard players (iterator convos), but I disagree that it “dilutes” the identity. It’s a argumentative followup/qualification, in a lot of aspects.
@jevmenyt3422 Жыл бұрын
i mean. James and Joar description of the game: "its so cool that you are just a small creature who doesnt understand its surrounding and doesnt play a role in anything greater, you are just looking for your way home" Andrew's description: "i thought it would be amazing to enter the zombified corpse of a god and adventure into the depths of a dead superstructure to revive it and set peace between two god like entities" Basically, Downpour campaigns are good but have "protagonist syndrome" so simply acknowledging that it was made by a team with a completely different vision of the game and tries to do its own thing will make you appreciate more each one of them. Just learn to differenciate each because it will do you no good to try fusing them both, there is a reason why the community splits the vanilla lore and the downpour lore when making theories or challenges.

Rain World is the feeling of discovery you had when you were a kid and videogames were opening up before you. After years you get used to how videogames operate, the magic begins to fade away and you're left with dopaminergic systems and boring multiplayer shit that ends up feeling like eating popcorn. Rain World brings that magic back to the fullest. It's truly a masterpiece

I am not hyperbolizing when I say that everyone should try RainWorld. It's one of those pieces of art where the annoyance of experiencing and not liking it is so far less than the sense of joy/accomplishment/bliss it can bring you, that it just vanishes like a morning mist beneath the glory of the sun. Try it, you may not like it, honestly, you will probably not like it in the first few hours. You might even ragequit the whole thing, that's what I did. But what's sure, is that if you manage to "get it", to get past the barrière of entry, you will stumble upon of the most beautiful things you can come across. Seriously, play RainWorld.

Well, I feel convinced that I should give Rain World another try when I’m in a calmer and thinkier time of my life. I bought it earlier this year, but I think I’m too stressed with work and school and life to give it the time it deserves. I loved how it looks though, and I originally got it because it feels similar to Hollow Knight (being just a lil guy exploring a dangerous world).
@MatthijsvanDuin Жыл бұрын
A big difference is that Rain World never lets your character get powerful through upgrades, the only thing you upgrade is your own ability as a player. (Consequently, Rain World is not a metroidvania; you can _technically_ go anywhere at any time, even if there's a fairly linear "intended" route the game will gently nudge you towards)

if youre the type of person who loves analyzing game lore through its environment instead of it being told to you straight forward, RAIN WORLD IS FOR YOU!! even if you need help from the discord or the wiki to beat the game, the lore is VERY hidden and you might not even get a hint of it's existence in your first playthrough. there are many untold mysteries, theories, and headcanons. ever since i started playing last year, ive been OBSESSED with its lore and the way it tells a story that isnt even mainly about the slugcat you play as! then of course the downpour dlc came out and i was ALL OVER the new dialogue and areas! it answered so many questions as well as raising so many more new ones. tldr; I TOTALLY RECOMMEND RAIN WORLD IF YOU LOVE ENVIRONMENTAL STORYTELLING!!!

Hey, another Rain world enjoyer here and if you loved the base game the DLC is like more than worth the money. It adds a bunch of content a "rogue lite" game mode with randomized starting location and goals. But the main meat of it is the new characters and the campaigns attached to them. There are also many other minor things like safari, challenge, and more arena mode.

I’ve known Rain World existed for years, but never given it a go because I’ve seen it described as frustratingly difficult. But your description of it has made me very intrigued. As someone who has already beaten Sea of Stars, I can confidently say everything in the game gets better and better the further you get into the story. The worldbuilding is really fleshed out and the devs are really good at communicating certain characters' ways of foreshadowing/teasing/hinting. Obviously the story is awesome, the OST is an absolute banger and doing everything the game has to offer doesn't feel like a chore. For people wanting to try out Rain World but unsure: approach it as a survival simulator with no ability upgrades. Accept that you are going to die a lot in the beginning and feel lost often but you will see your own skills improve as you play more. And there is an overarching story to the game where acceptance is a core philosophy but it will take you a while to stumble upon it. If none of those sound like something you would enjoy, it's totally fair to drop the game. But even as a casual gamer who often didn't complete games and has only recently been playing more games, Rain World sucked me in and I felt so much satisfaction in completing it. It is my favourite game now.

I think this is a good and fair take on Rainworld. I respect that game so much, as it has a lot going for it - a gorgeous, immersive, and complex ecosystem which rewards mastery of both mechanics and gamesense - but after about 20 hours, I can definitively conclude that I absolutely hate playing it and won't ever go back to it again. The grindy way that progress works, the frustrating controls and movement tech that needs to be mastered before you can get anywhere, and the (sometimes very BS) RNG that goes hand in hand with having an ecosystem independent of the player are all things that both make it special in the first place and hold me back from enjoying it at all. Never before has the idea of "this is a very good game that is NOT for everyone" resonated with me as hard as it did when I played Rainworld.

hunter is scary, but once you master the game you can manage hunter very well, it's almost like a rain world boss rush! stay aware of the map layout, know where you're going, why, and how. to play hunter means you understand the environments you are in; you are capable enough to climb the food chain, and hunt creatures with your wit, expertise, and perseverance.

I have to say, I do think the DLC is worth the asking price, love the new places and ways to experience the world, but I kind of dislike the approach to lore. Frankly I think the dialogue is a lot more weird and stilted than the base-game's, and while the lore stuff is interesting, I think it's a better game for keeping so much of that stuff mysterious, lost to time. I'm a slugcat! Why do I care about the bonkers geopolitical AI stuff?? I think it's interesting to know why the world is the way it is, to some extent, but Rain World's story has always been a tale of entropy and fighting against loneliness and hopelessness, how small you are in the world, the reckless ambition of the ones who came before and how far their ruin stretches, those ideas were always much more important to the "story," your journey through the game than the specifics of the AIs and their relationships or the exact reasons for each ruin... in fact I think it might be better if you're left to infer that stuff, if they stay mysteries for you to ponder each time you play-and tbf to the DLC, we get new stories with new themes that are extremely engaging, especially by contrast to the original campaigns. Gourmand is absolutely incredible, worth getting the DLC for on its own, offering a very very different emotional experience to the base-game which only underscores how bleak the other stories in this game are. and Arti is interesting, but I found their campaign very frustrating, (where the base-game used contextual button presses to condition your behaviour, make you immersed, make you behave like a little creature, binding the double jump to JUMP and GRAB really pissed me off, there was no underlying logic to it, I was dropping stuff when I parried, picking up stuff when I didn't want to, and it hurt my fingers to perform the press routinely when there were so many other buttons they could've used.) For me, I explored almost all of the new bits of the world in Gourmand, so when it came time to play Artificer I kind of just had to speedrun through the most frustrating areas of the game to get to the new stuff, it sucked. but the storytelling WAS interesting, I liked the delivery. and I loved their region. Spearmaster, at least right now... not so much. You're just going around reading logs, and they're not super well written... and I really don't see how they'll logically justify these stupid little antennae things popping up in the most random of places and you being able to listen in on them, unless it's something like Pebbles planted the suckers in random places around the world to pick up on chatter, and tasked you with listening on in them, then reporting back to him... I hope it's something like that because right now it feels incredibly contrived, and it's HARD man. Thought it would be easier having infinite spears, but not really! This campaign has made me just so incredibly frustrated so far. Not really liking Spearmaster... but I'm gonna push through and do them all. Very much looking forward to the last two. Also, definitely persist with Hunter, it's one of the most satisfying experiences you can have in this game! My favourite part, and my advice to you is-PLAN. plan it all out in the real world, on paper or a white board. It's super fun to take all the knowledge of the world that's up in your brain and draw up a comprehensive route through it all, then following your plan and watching the prep pay off. Super fun.

If you want to do Hunter, you could increase the counter in the Remix menu for your first playthrough. That will allow you to figure him out and be more comfy. You can then start him over with the regular counter. With how much you're encouraged to go fast, a full playthrough of Hunter doesn't take long anyway

Would love to see what you think about Risk of Rain 2, specifically with R2Modman mods. RoR2 is a great game on its own but the modding community adds a lot of meta elements and would love to hear you explore what you think about games that support communities that do that.

If you’re considering getting rain world but think it has limited replayability just know that the game has a thriving modding community which have created amazing mods for you to enjoy after beating the base game and downpour. The game is not something that you beat once and leave forever due to limited content, you can enjoy it nearly infinitely if you want to
