gonna stick with just games for now as that is the media I consume the most of. I don't watch enough movies to have much of anything to say (like, I have watched one movie this year. Puss in Boots. Great stuff). As for shows, I do watch a decent bit of TV, but it is rare to do more than one or two shows a month. What is more likely is me just putting out a dedicated video of some loose thoughts on stuff. For instance, I have some thoughts on TLOU that I will probably turn into something on this channel.

I love your "Games that got me through [current year]" videos and I usually watch them for game recommendations every year! Doing this monthly list feels like you have more time to elaborate on each game, so I really like it! I'm definitely gonna try out Case of the Golden Idol and Sable now. Also really happy to see someone else enjoying Everhood, that game rules!

I also loved Kena Bridge of Spirits for some of the reasons you mentioned. To paraphrase Miyamoto, “a good game mechanic fixes multiple problems.” I liked how the core abilities were both exploration and combat based. I’m a mental health therapist and the core story themes of connecting with suffering characters and helping them heal always appeals to me. Likewise, I love nature, particularly forest and mountain environments, and this is how I imagine a Zelda game would look today if they stuck with the N64 art style- it’s semi realistic and a nice bland of realism and fantasy. I also appreciated how the combat was challenging in a Dark Souls like way, with Zelda core mechanics and Studio Ghibli story telling. That’s my pitch to anyone reading this. I think the game will be an 8/10 for most people, but it’s a 9/10 for me due to how much the design and themes connected with me. More people should give it a shot!

This series is a delight to see I must say. I've always been curious of the games you play outside of those that you talk about in videos on your main channel, so thank you for satiating that curiosity. Since the start of 2021 I have been keeping a visual graphic (thing?) of all the games I play, it started as a way to get on top of my backlog but now functions as my wishlist and a record of all my completions (rolling credits) too. It might seem overboard to some, but I've played so many incredible titles that I would have never gotten around to, or even realised I wanted to play, had I not started keeping track. To return to topic though, Citizen Sleeper was a game I played last year when I just couldn't decide what I wanted to play or return to next. I just booted it up on PC Game Pass to give it a go, fell in love, and wrote the developer an essay afterwards (which I never normally do) and he still hasn't read it haha

Kentucky Route Zero gives me a feeling no other game can. It feels like some nights when I was a young teenager, home alone and just left with my thoughts, and there seemed to be no limitations. There´s a sense of solitude, but also universal connection. Like being entirely certain that, if you really wanted to, there is not a single thing that can stop you from leaving every aspect of the person that you were up to this point behind. I don´t even know if I would call it a good game or if I like its story, but it makes me feel free.

As a student on my 6th semester with very limited time to play, the games I played in February was: a bit of Witcher 3, a lot of Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe (mainly the mini-games though), and like two evenings of Civ 6. I also finished reading The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins though. I wish I had more time (and money) to play games :( I'm saving up to be able to get Tears of the Kingdom in May.

This is wild, I just finished Kentucky Route Zero today and earlier i thought to myself: "I'm disappointed I'm done with Kentucky Route Zero". While I really loved my experience playing it overall, I also feel like I was missing something. Like the game didn't unfold its full potential with me. There's a part of me that wants to replay it, hoping that if I engage with it slightly differently I'll love it as much as I "should". But I'm also really worried that I might enjoy my second go around with it less than my first one. I'm probably going to find out a few years from now...

Yeah, I do have a hunch/hope that I will replay it 5 years and be like, "I WAS AN IDIOT BACK THEN. THIS SPEAKS TO ME!" but yeah right now I mostly am left with a feeling that whatever it is that those who loved it saw in it is just not something I did.

Citizen Sleeper is a real gem. I adored KRZ (the end of Act 4 and Act 5 broke my heart in the best way), but completely get how it isn't for everyone. Also, I really need to play Sable! The purposeful lower animation frames on Sable herself was jarring for me, but the game seems to be something really special, so it looks to be worth pushing through.

I think the reason it's easy to pull of combos in Hi-Fi Rush is because it's a game where you can't button mash. In DMC for example it's easy for a noob to fall into stinger spamming because they just hold lock on and forward while mashing attack and the worst part is that it works, it stunlocks most enemies, deals good damage and the DT version is even better for spamming.

2:33 It's interesting how divisive movement in first person games can be. I absolutely love Titanfall 2's movement, but I felt like Ghostrunner and Mirror's Edge felt really stilted and clunky in comparison. I think it's the very constant (slow) speed while running/wallrunning, and possibly the lack of challenge in the movement itself.

I personally think that Hi-Fi Rush can seriously become my personal GOTY 2023 as I already know I will not play Zelda (have never played one before and have no Switch) and will just have to see what the other big games this year can deliver. But yeah, Hi-Fi Rush completely got me (and I didn't know it was praised so much as I got into it immediately after it got dropped). The most surprising part for me was how much I loved the characters and script. I also think the way it combined Rhythm and Action-Gameplay is actually a bit revolutionary as it shows how much games like this (with combos) have always been Rhythm games that just lacked a constant Rhythm. As you put it, this game adds another mechanic to an already pretty overwhelming type of gameplay and "it makes the game easier". How many mechanics work so well in context of the rest that the game gets easier because of them. In addition I think the Art-Style is somewhat revolutionary (together with the transitions to 2d animations) as I don't think any game has ever done comic book, cell sharing or Cartoon better and it does a lot of interesting stuff with lighting effects to get there (and all that in UE4, how did they do it) Well, this is my little piece why I think Hi-Fi Rush is amazing.
