This explains why sorcerer Baradun is ludicrously powerful and handsome (patch notes words, not mine), and why all the NPC's dislike Greg so intensely! Adam created a simulated reality where his douchebag boss is at the bottom of the social ladder, is forced to interact with every single player, while not being able to ever leave, and is forced to just swallow insult and disrespect on the regular. In the episode where Greg is temporarily given a wife, the patch notes literally say "did not mean to make Greg happy". Such vindictiveness! I love these guys.

To be fair, pretty much all of this stuff is stuff that we do know how to do.. it's just that it's way too computationally expensive for us to actually do them (and it would also be impossibly difficult to actually design the game too - things like controlling what a character does becomes.. a lot more difficult if you want the physics to be 100% consistent). And when I mean way too computationally expensive, I mean it would require more everything than every computer in the world combined (more storage space, more processing power etc.).

Less extreme ways to do this is also for decades now in trial phases with the goal to create fusion power plants. Nice retrospective on continuity! 🤔 I love how Honey Woods’ ‘fake realism’ feels so authentic in hindsight-like it was never fake to begin with. Brilliant!!!

A byproduct is that some of the NPCs are now sentient. Next episode should be of how one of Delvin's inventions (a VR headset) is tested on a janitor and he becomes one with the ultra photorealistic realm of the sentient NPCs. Now he is a glitch...

Reminds me of how they designed an ecosystem for Ultima Online, but players systematically eradicated all life just for some XP. Devs focus on cool simulation aspects but most players won't know or care.

I am Adam in this skit. I tried to build a simple game for myself to play and ended up building a weather simulation of planet earth. It was honestly more fun than building a video game. It would be of no use to anyone but it's fun to play with.

I knew this show was the origin of Epic NPC Man and why some of the NPCs are sentient (and, in Baradun's case, aware they're in a video game and/or D&D campaign) but I wasn't expecting Delvin to just casually throw that fact in there at the end like it's no big deal.
