Despite my desire to see movies made from certain games, I won't forget the atrocities that followed, such as Super Mario Bros, Street Fighter, Doom, Silent Hill, Max Payne, and of course Resident Evil. Does anyone remember the Halo movie that never was?

I remember that which ultimately ended in nowhere. At least the Halo as a series while not a perfect one is watchable. The others you missed from the list which went into krap is. Dungeon Siege, Bloodrayne, Postal. Uwe Boll had an idea how to mess up these titles.

I agree, though I admit Resident Evil is somewhat of a guilty pleasure for me, though I also have to admit I only ever played RE4. That is not that I say the RE movies are good, on the contrary, they're pretty bad but in a fun way. I also like the first Silent Hill movie, never played a Silent Hill game.

You're right, there were a lot of bad movies made from games! But the last few, especially the TV series were pretty sweet.

Mass effect has so much lore they could actually make a whole TV series around it. The main episodes could follow the main story, and then occasional episodes could give individual character backstories. They could easily make an entire series just about The Shadow Broker

Definitely an interesting idea to ponder about. And your vision of the plots and themes of the movies / series is solid and would definitely create something worth watching. So I am giving this video a bacon like 🥓 I totally agree that a Maniac Mansion movie would be a great idea. With the appropriate amount of silly humour. :) As for Monkey Island, I'd see it as a cartoon or very advanced CGI, with some of the voice actors reprising their roles. Though I kind of think its charm is more as a game to me. I don't know... As for the rest, I like sci-fi, but don't quite care for action and explosions. That Half Life 3 though would be interesting, since the games are already pretty cinematic and the existing story is good.

I believe, these old LucasFilm Games would be the purrfect tie-ins as the movies: - MANIAC MANSION - ZAK MCKRACKEN AND THE ALIEN MINDBENDERS - LOOM - THE SECRET OF MONKEY ISLAND They are even my childhood favorite games on the Commodore 64 and Amiga 500 😺👍🕹️. I personally could bring some names on what can I see as a movie or a series. I will not explain further just name the games and what these can be in my opinion. - Giants Citizen Kabuto ( Adventure / Comedy movie) - Populous 3 (Fantasy / Hercules-Xena type of series) - The Dig (Scifi-Adventure movie) - Deadspace (Horror movie / Scifi-Horror Series) - there is an animated movie for instance which in my opinion was a good one. - System Shock (strictly Scifi-Action Series) - Theme Hospital (Comical series) "Dr House but much more comical" - Stonekeep (Dark-Fantasy movie) - Reunion/Imperium Galactica ( Either movie with like 4-5 sequels or Scifi series) - Another World (Scifi-Adventure-Action movie / series) - Abe's Odyssey ( Scifi-Adventure-Action movie) - Altered Beast ( Underworld like fantasy transformation movie or series similar style like Hercules-Xena) - Carmageddon (Action-Racing-Thriller movie / anime / animated cartoon bloody series) - Bioforge (Scifi-Action movie) - Fantasy General ( Fantasy-Action movie with mass battles movie with thousands of stunts - monsters) - Mechcommander ( Scifi-Action mecha-battletech movies / series) The universe is deep so there are a lot of stuff to be told. - Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver ( Fantasy-Action-Thriller movie with episodes) - Zanzarah: The hidden portal ( Fantasy-Scifi Time travel, fairie hunter movie / series) Like pokemon. - Diablo ( Dark-Fantasy series) - Homeworld ( Battlestar galactica like movie or series) - Jazz Jackrabbit (Light-Comedy Adventure Cartoon - animated series) - Fragile Allegiance ( Scifi-Action-Adventure movie with species struggle to survive) - Dark Sun (Scifi-Fantasy Adventure movie / series) - Capitalism 1-2 ( A wolf of Wall street style documentary-narrative movie) - Sacred ( Fantasy-Adventure-Action series) There could be much more line but you get the point. In my brain there are hundreds of millions image of how these series-movies could workeven if the base material not necessarily that deep of story telling.

*Mass Effect* has potential. I think they'd want to focus on character arcs, basically picking 2-3 companions to focus on, making sure their arc starts in a good spot where you can see them really grow/change over the events, and also writing a lot more of a Shephard character arc than is there (he's basically a player stand-in because well, that's exactly what he is). Also hopefully treat audiences like adults and have the characters act completely normal around most aliens because they're used to interacting with them (ie don't have the comedic relief character who's there just to say, _"whoa! That's weird!"_ about every alien thing; Hollywood is often guilty of this). Depending on the format, I think just starting with ME1's plots would be enough? *Half Life* has a bit less potential, since the story is really light. As an action movie there's plenty to move between with Freeman's experiment unleashing horrible aliens into our dimension, and then having him try to survive/escape from those aliens and the government jackboots sent to silence things. The action bits are there, but the plot feels unsuited to anything other than a shallow action flick. Half-life 2's story is a huge jump away from HL1 and I suppose I could see its own thing, a bit like the TV series Colony (I think that was the one where the aliens occupy earth and divide it into zones and one family's just trying to reunite despite all the new rules?), but even that sounds a little hollow at first pass. *Curse of Monkey Island* in the style of *Galavant* would be absolutely amazing. Mostly I say this as someone who never played the games myself, so like 99% of my association with Monkey Island is the song, _"A Pirate I Was Meant To Be"_ In other words (for those unfamiliar with Galavant) it's a theatrical musical TV show following these pirates and telling the story of Curse of Monkey Island, and fully half of all scenes would be a song.
@OldAndNewVideoGames

Well, it's gotta start somewhere, and what better place than the first game? I agree on the comedic relief. ME is not Fallout, it's a serious tale of survival. Are you telling me that there's a sing-a-long Monkey Island TV show? Are you for real? Do you want to break me, and send me on a crazy chase all around the darkest ends of the Internet to find it now? Do you know that all the sentences before this one are moot now, as I'm already looking for it? What have you done! ;)
@Axehilt
@Axehilt 15 сағат бұрын
@@OldAndNewVideoGames Well *Galavant* is mostly medieval heroics, though it does involve pirates at one point. KZbin: _"Cast of Galavant - Galavant"_ I believe that's the opening ~2 minutes of the very first episode, so it gives you the tone and sets the early story, without spoiling anything.

I tend to be of the mind that games with very loose stories would be best suited for adaptation because it would give the filmmakers more room to flesh out the concept for their purposes. There's no reason Doom couldn't be a fantastic movie but Hollywood gonna Hollywood. I like the idea of something like UFO/X-Com. Mass Effect seems more the type where you'd hope for some significant liberties to be taken since the original games' story is pretty lousy, clearly wasn't made with a proper outline in mind, and would need a certain amount of fixing.

Whilst UFO is not a game for me even I’d love to see a show or perhaps movie. In spite of the game’s age there’s certainly enough content to fill a series or 2. There’s already the Mass Effect: Paragon Lost anime & Amazon are actually working on a Mass Effect series, to be written by Daniel Casey, the writer of Fast & Furious 9 but we’ll try not to hold that against him. OMG! Why hasn’t Monkey Island had a movie yet?! Imagine what could be done with ‘moon-logic’ solutions to the protagonist’s problems. This needs doing! Again, why hasn’t Half-Life had a show/movie? The games were massive in their day. Half-Life 2 massively increased uptake in PC gaming & as I was working in phone based tech support at the time it launched I have… stories. 😄 Again, again why hasn’t Maniac Mansion had a movie? The material’s there in an early cinematic game & really should have been a spoof B movie by now. Imagine the tentacles rendered in modern CGI. What a great idea for a series, thanks. There are indeed so many games that should have had a movie or series long before now. Personally I’ve always wanted an Another World movie. The game would essentially serve as the movie’s story board but there are so many more games too.

Oh man... Yes, we better come at it with an open mind... Cause I don't want ME to be like F&F. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like F&F but they're the movies that I watch when I wanna switch off and just have stupid ass explosions fill my screen and fast cars crash into everything with someone screaming "family!" at the top of their lunge! I don't watch them for the story or any deeper meaning that they may (they don't!) hold. You know, in theory there is something kinda akin to Monkey Island, and it's called "Our Flag Means War", and it's short (2-season) series on MAX. I liked first season better, but I've still 3-4 episodes left to watch from the 2nd. Just haven't had time to do so. Another World and Flashback could be made as two separate movies set in the same "universe" and while they would not be connected, they could share some themes, and maybe a locale or two. I'm glad that you liked it! :) I loved working on it, and had fun coming up with the games. I have a lot more in the store for potential future entries.

Games are games for a reason. Movies are movies for a reason. People that want games to be movies have this issue of thinking it's possible without sacrificing much of what makes the game memorable and the fact that Hollywood has it's own priorities along with the politics if Hollywood. Games engage the brain in different ways, being interactive and more engaging. Movies shut off most of your brain and you just consume it and can't dictate anything about it. It's the lesser form. Games that try to be movies already show enough issues with the two trying to become one, even narratively when scripts are that of cinema movies.
@OldAndNewVideoGames

I agree that the movies are a lesser form of entertainment as they’re not interactive, but their existence is necessary too. I mean, I don’t always have hours to get lost in my big RPGs or cinematic adventures, but I’ll find an odd hour-two watch a good movie. :)
