Just download the Legends rules. It doesn't matter if they're competitive legal or not, since unless you're planning on taking your 30k army to tournaments it'll work great.

I think the thing that frustrates me the most about the 4 detachments is that we have 6 well known major orders. Its not like it's difficult to make new detachments because there isn't enough lore information. I'm skeptical of theming a detachment around jump troops as well because we only have 2 units, 3 if you count the new canoness but she's not going to be run alone. Also I've never been a fan of bloody rose but it's a damn shame to not have a themed detachment for them.

As a Sisters main who built her armour around the Order of the Valorous Heart, it really frustrates me that we have been completely sidelined as far as detachment goes. Literally, all they needed to print was: “Bulwark of Valour: All Adepta Sororitas units gain 5+ FNP against Mortal Wounds and all non-Ministorum units gain -1 AP negation.” Seriously, that took me all of 20 seconds to come up with as it’s effectively a direct port of the Valorous Heart rules for 9th edn. If I can come up with it in seconds, how can rules designers not think of it over nearly a year?

Or take it from an Argent Shroud player. I want my mechanized infantry with assault weapons! By the throne I bet the Army of Faith detachment will be our “Argent Shroud” detachment that only focuses on half of what were known for. Jump Packs are cool but I want my Dominions and Battle Sisters jumping in and out of transports. The “Salamander” detachment for space marines is a perfect example of what I’d rather have for Argent Shroud.

Pretty much every combat patrol is crap compared to its old one. Look no further than the Dark angels. You got a dreadnought, 3 inceptors, 5 intercessors and the Chaplain. Arguably the Chaplain is the worst model in that box. But it's loaded with good units, and only 5 intercessors at least means you won't end up with a number too huge to use. Now, well here;'s a TON of infantry, and a character that can't attach to any of them, have fun

I have heard the reason for lack of releases is GW is unable to keep up with demand any more. They have so many plastic kits and specialty games and only a set number of injection moulding machines that they cannot physically produce enough of each product to meet demand. I wish GW would cut down on releasing then abandoning specialty games every 20 minutes and focussed more on making sure the game everyone plays (40k) is in stock and also getting new kits. The reason why GW will not stop releasing then abandoning specialty games if because they are excellent short term profit makers. GW is prioritising short term profit over the ability to manufacture enough 40k for the long term.

The shareholders do not care about the long term success of the company, they want returns every quarter until they cash out. Once the chickens come home to roost and all these short term profit seeking incentives hut the company in the long run, the investors will just cash out.

I'm slightly disappointed that they re-used a previous codex cover artwork for the Adepta Sororitas yet managed to create a new one for Genestealer cults. I miss the days when codex releases were treated like a big deal, there'd be new artwork not just on the cover but in the book too and it would be released alongside multiple new models, often with brand new units. The way they're handled these days feels more like they're doing it out of obligation, which technically they are I suppose, but it feels like it's missing the fanfare of old.

The canoness fails because of the head/face sculpt. It has a very bored expression, "ugh here we go again purging heretics, I'd rather be praying in the cloister". Try a head swap with a raging, screaming SoB - any will do - and it'll get much better. The AdMech Magos will be a fine addition to my 40K force. Melee weapon kitbash with an axe head from one of the multiple Dominus kits still not assembled, ta-da!

Yeah the "default" head is a weird design, because there's two other head options, and they are probably more interesting to most people. I like the "no hood + respirator" head, that one has a pretty intense focused/angry expression. I'd be happy to paint that. While the default one looks almost like she's drugged? Or exhausted?

I think the problem with 40k models is that they're stuck in stagnation where all models have to fit their faction without much variation or being too far apart. They really need to just let the artists go nuts and create weird wacky shit. Especially for factions like Mechanicus which should have bizzare models.

I'm legitimately happy about the book, seeing as I'd themed my forces around Tallarn from the get-go. I can see how a non-player might not see the models as new, though. Two kits were already revealed on Heresy Thursdays. Of the remaining four, three kits are variants of tanks already in the game. This leaves the sabres as the sole, 100% new, kit revealed.

With the sisters only getting 4 detachments, it makes you wonder that maybe they didn't have 6 easy, distinct subfaction ideas for sisters, like they couldn't think of an easy set of 6 different orders of sisters... Sarcasm aside, it was such an easy project and they messed it up Martyred Lady- Current detachment, maybe tweaked a bit Bloody Rose- Highly offensive, maybe assault similar to firestorm space marines or renegade csm Sacred Rose- Controlled, balanced shooting, the holy trinity detachment they've made would work Ebon Chalice- Focus more on miracle improvement as the most holy guards Valorous Heart- Penitent forces, maybe making repentia battleline too Argent Shroud- The home of Morvenn Vahl, so mechanised/paragon focus

Apologies but from a Argent Shroud main they have more of a claim to a Fire Storm esc detachment than Bloody Rose. Shock Assault is AS bread n’ butter. They are known for their Dominion and Seraphim squads and heavy use of transports. Sure yeah Morven Val is from AS, but she is not the main image of them. I’d say Bloody Rose should have more emphasis on charge and melee bonuses IMO.

I also wanted to write 6 unique, themed detachments to make the point that GW really were slacking with only making 4. Edit: Also there's lots of crossover with a "penitent" force and a melee force, so wanted BR and SR to feel more distinct.

I wanted to start GSC but saw the writing on the wall with the CP trends, and had to break my budget to get 2 of the old CP earlier than I wanted. Happy I did just because the battleforce (a limited box) is just 1.5 of the old CP, and the new CP is the supplement. After the battleforce is out of stock, the core of the army will be unreasonably price, exactly how GW wants it.

I have a bit of a theory on the 4 detachment codexes... 11th edition is going to have broadly the same rules as 10th with compatible codexes. The 4 detachment codexes well be the codexes that will get more than just a single model next time round with some new units that exemplify one or two new detachments in the next codex. So, T'au may get a bunch of auxiliaries and an auxiliary detachment, Custodes will probably get Jump Pack Custodes and maybe vehicles and a fast attack detachment, etc. They don't want to have a detachment that doesn't work or make thematic sense with the current mini ranges and they don't want to create a detachment that they're going to get rid of next time out. 4 detachment = range needs expanding 5 detachments = well rounded range 6+ detachments = core faction with loads of lore that can support many play styles.

At risk of being the “uhm, ackshually” guy: the weapon the jumppack canoness can take isn’t a regular chainsword, it’s an eviscerator, the two-handed ulta-chainsword the repentia use. I think 3 really good attachments is better than 2 good attachments and 5 bad ones, though. I really like the T'au codex. It has three really strong detachments that are each good in their own way and will vary in power based on the terrain and meta and the 4th is still not bad, it just isn't as good.

I feel like last year after a couple of the live events, everyone got really upset that designers and artists weren’t allowed to be at the events anymore, so I took this as a way to still get the designers out there for people to hear from, without risking loose lips. I just got my old Codex Witch Hunter out of the basement the other day to get inspiration. :) Grey Knights and Deathwatch are so niche, I was wondering if they get rolled into Codex Agents, also because of the print leak and we'll get a box set for each Ordo according to Valrak's always correct source. But if so, Sisters as the Chamber Militant are, of course, out of place in that scenario. But seeing the Sisters only get four detachments made it obvious that they put Chamber Militant detachments in that codex, in my opinion. That way, they also don't have to try to do detachments for GK and DW, which are not all the same. That's also a point I have to disagree with Jay on. Some factions are just too niche to get more than four detachments.

Each to their own of course, but for me the new reveal format is leagues better than the old one. The previous style felt like it would drag on for so long, without actually sharing much information of value. The hosts would waste time on where everyone's joining the stream from, before rambling on about what random bloodbowl team they've been painting and so on, which just felt like pointless filler material you had to wait through until they actually got to the reveals you were there for. One slight advantage for the format was that there was a degree of interactivity (if they hadn't used up too much time in the pre-reveal chat) and the community could ask some questions. But realistically they'd only answer a couple really basic questions, and often their answers didn't end up being all that accurate either. For instance in the 40k 10th edition reveal someone asked if Forge World units would get rules at launch. The hosts answered that they would get rules, which reassured me. Only when the edition launched, it became clear they'd not only put most of my FW collection in Legends, but didn't actually bother to update the datasheets from the error-full 9th edition FW datasheets, so many space marine and guard units still have incorrect weapon options. I would've preferred to not get that reassurance in the 10th reveal stream if I was just going to be disappointed when the edition launched anyway. The new style is perhaps more sterile, but I genuinely don't see what is lost. I really enjoyed hearing from the designers of the mechanicum models especially on how they tried to adapt the resin models to plastic. Hopefully they do longer interviews with mini designers in future!

I saw the 4 sisters detachments confirmation and I got very nervous for the Grey Knights and their 8 brotherhoods which in 9th you could use any of them. After they got rid of the regular dreadnought and only the vene dread being allowed I doubt the preservers 5th brotherhood seems unlikely. Again as eons said I would be more than happy with 6 detachments as the standard especially if even ONE of the grey knight codex detachments is a true psyker powerhouse.

They're what you organize your army under Think of any real military force You can just say "the military", but then you can get into stuff like the air division or the shock troops, etc 40k is the same way now Space marines, for instance, can be stealthy in Vanguard, or vehicle heavy in Ironstorm It's more complicated than that, but those are the broad strokes

I've literally designed detachments. It's fun. The codex system's flaws have only been highlighted by the release system. They should make the codex a "culmination of the edition" thing and drip-feed detachments as the edition progresses. Lean more on campaign and crusade packages like Pariah Nexus.

What was most disappointing to me about the canoness is that sisters have a major order focused on melee combat, and getting dug into melee. Battle sisters have no battle line units that are melee focused. If you wanna focus on melee your main options are arcos and repentants, and they’re incredibly squishy!

Kind of makes sense due to the lack of models. They only have certain type of models in their army. So they built these detachments to what type of play that you can get a put in certain models together because they probably all have. Different special rules for each.I can see only four valuable detachments for the sister's of battle

You should definitely get the Necromunda set. The game is really cool, and you could easily use the 'corrupted hive scum' easily in your Genestealer Cult army as well, just to give the swarms a bit of variety (some PDF, some miners, and some gangers). Plus, I'd like to see your paint jobs!

I don't think the 'color-shifted' armor is special paint - it looks like NMM to me. Beautifully done, but still possible with their paints (not very GW to advertise for someone else's paints)... :)
