The thing I like about Malifaux is how each crew has a really unique playstyle. I play Tri Chi so they're all about buffing and debuffing with poison tokens that spread across the field. It's really fun and the crews that hardresist against conditions give me a good challenge

Malifaux is so good. I play MS&U (who are all about overlapping auras) and Fae (who are all about terrain markers and murder). The way just those two crews, who aren’t even to the extremes, react to the same schemes and strategies is so fun to play around with. Not to mention how your opponent’s playstyle influences your own strategy. It’s complex, but in the good way.

Finally a question I can answer! Bloodbowl is what got my boyfriend and I started into tabletop games. We've been playing it for 1 1/2 years now. We do play competitevly. There is a really good scene here and in the last 1 year I've allready been to 10 tournaments. We don't really play narratively. For us it is just a silly but very strategic game where I get to paint a LOT of models without being bored of the same colorscheme after a while.

You should most definetly give Blood Bowl a go! What a fun game with great miniatures! And it's not that random - or at least you can manage the level of randomness by choosing a team that suits your playstyle. For example: Goblins=lots of random crazyness, Dark Elfs=more controled style of play. Those are just examples of teams, these teams may not the represent the most opposite of playstyles.

I’ve had a blast with blood bowl. I think this edition is much more about just having a fun time with the game then trying to win. They have a really great and in depth campaign type system that the game is kind of built around.

The desolation squad have 2 weapon profile, rocket launcher for anti infantry that shoots D3+3, have blast, basically is the old rocket launcher profile but with at least 4 shots per launcher and better ap, the anti-tank is 1 shot per model,d3+3 damage and -3 ap, of course heavy weapon, the sergeant have another type of rocket launcher which is a heavyD6 strength 6 damage 2, with indirect fire and blast,better against armored enemies like chaos marines, plus they all have the castellan launcher which is a heavyD3 S4 -1AP D1 with indirect fire and blast, so technically if you go with 10 of this against a full squad of hormagaunts, with the anti-infantry profile they shoots 54 rockets plus 30 castellan and 6 from the sergeant launcher

on the "do they tear the head off or paint multiple models" look at the daemon prince model, its VERY clear they painted one model then painted the heads seperatly and edited them in place, because all of the different heads have exactly the same body behind them, not a single pixel out of place 100% they painted one body and head, then painted a 2nd head seperatly, and replaced the head for more photos also looking at the missile marines poses, they are definetly 5 to a box (or at least 5 to a set of sprues) you can clearly see 5 poses doubled between the 10 of them, and 2 of them have been built as sargents (bigger shoulder scope, extra scope on the gun, special head, extra thing in the other arm to make them stand out, those 2 are also using the same body pose and "gun up" arm position as well) they are definetly 5 to a sprue set/box and only 6 have actully been built/painted by GW, there are 4 of the 10 which are on closer inspection DEFINETLY just slightly different angles of the other 4

Those new Space Marine missile launcher guys remind me of when I was working at Games Workshop. We used to have some kids that would come in regularly. Good gamers, but their models... they used to build models with the shoulder pads going wide instead of tall. And they would use EVERY gun on the sprue on their models. Have the marine hold the bolter with a melta gun glued to his arm, with a rocket launcher over his shoulder, and a plasma pistol in his other hand. Some of them would have a cyclone missile launcher on their backpack. Those new models are ridiculous.

I think the Desloation squads would look better in Gravis Armor. At least it would make a bit more sense to carry the heavier weapons. I mean the heavy intercessors are in Gravis and they only carry special bolters Makes no sense to be honest. Give me Devastator Firstborns any day

Thanks for the video. Regarding Primaris squad vs. Tactical squad philosophy: I agree that I prefer the Tactical squad idea of 1 special weapon and 1 heavy weapon. My biggest concern is that the Primaris squads really step on the toes of the Eldar squad design philosophy. There's no need to play Eldar now with the Marine equivalency of Fire Dragon squads, Reaper squads, etc. even the Falcon grav tank fot co-opted.

Malifaux is a great game and a breath of fresh air. Unlike most wargames, you (mostly) alternate model activations so it prevents the typical alpha strike bullshit most games have where your only interaction is to roll saves. The deck mechanic also feels more fair because you KNOW for a fact that you will "roll" high after a series of low rolls which prevents that string of bad rolls problem other games have. The hand mechanic is EXCELLENT. Much better than a reroll which is still random and really lets you push the agendas that you want. And lastly, Malifaux is above all else an objective game and the only one I am aware of that lets you lose your entire army yet still win the game because of objectives. Its a one of a kind game that not enough people knew about but whose mechanics greatly influenced the design of other (cough GW cough) games. I wish more people knew of it.

At least those models still have to do a tiny amount of set up to kill a model with 1 activation. You aren't just losing a model in the first action of the game because you left a micron of your model's ass outside of cover and your opponent has a plasma gun.

If you have the 2016 edition of Blood Bowl, you just need the new rulebook to play. The minis, boards, templates, dice, etc are all exactly the same. They just changed the stats around some. It's sort of like Necromunda, you have your team (gang, kill team) and they run around the board beating up the other team. Campaigns include skills and other advancements.

Having played a few games of blood bowl, it definitely feels more tactical than roleplay. Noting the events and dice rolls after the game can make a fun story, but in the game I was always more worried about keeping a solid defensive line, pressuring the opponent and balancing tactics and dice luck. Still very fun and I love my Skaven scoundrels!

Blood Bowl is the best games GW have ever produced. The league format as you develop you team over time is so much fun. Malifaux sounds great, looking forward to seeing more, although can I also suggest you check out Moonstone, another game that ditches dice for cards. It's a whimsical and humorous fantasy game that uses a custom deck to recreate the tactics of Histoical European Martial Arts, and a custom magic deck that uses a bluffing system that can lead to over the top effects or catastrophic failure. It's awesome.

Blood bowl is fantastic. In a given game luck can play a small or big role but mitigating risk is a big part of the game. The new teams are dynamic and lovely to paint and just like Necromunda there seems to be regular new models from forge world constantly expanding the options available. Having a good player die is devastating though (think x-com death with no ability to load a previous save)

Hot take: I like the new marines. They are fun. Every single creator is like.. "i like stupid buuuuut"... then have no problems with chaos demon birds, eldar clowns, warrior nuns playing an organ missile launcher tank... or just entire armies that use swords when guns exist etc etc. It's weird.

Part of me would like to take 3 of the desolation squad marines, convert the missile Launchers to over shoulder versions while ditching the belt fed Launchers. Then take the last two, ditch the missile Launchers and convert the belt fed ones into something like the Deathwatch Frag Launcher. Either that, or convert a squad of Aggressors, mount the missile Launchers on the back with the belt fed launcher mounted on one arm, and a power fist on the other. Then just make a better datasheet that applies the extra gravis wound and reduced movement, then adds the power fist for melee.

I’m not sure if you’ve heard it before, but I’d definitely recommend Blitz Bowl. It doesn’t have the league play of Blood Bowl, but it is a much faster play, with a modern take on the rules.

When I play blood bowl (which isn't that often cause my friends are all old and boring and too busy doing proper grown-up stuff) I tend to fudge the rules a bit to just get games to play quicker, if it's just a single game, for me it's just about getting points and stylishly demolishing my opponent for shits and giggles, but if someones playing in a league I'd imagine there would be a lot more strategy behind planning the roster and accounting for injuries just like with real sports. Dungeon bowl is a great add-on that blends the RPG and sport element together a lot more and would probably be a lot more fun to play (although I do own it, I've never got around to playing it). While watching this, I'm putting all my old-hammer blood bowl/dungeon bowl stuff onto bases, so I can do a video looking at my collection. the things I love about blood bowl are (A) it's goofy as all heck, the idea of orks and khemri and undead, etc players getting together to play a sport is ridiculous, and I love that. (B) you can build a team fairly cheaply, and have it be really customized in its structure, with mixed teams being possible to some extent depending on whether or not the players are compatible. (C) painting a team takes way less time than painting an army, and you can get really silly with the team names and kits. (D) there is a lot more opportunity to paint characters, as the teams are made up of individuals with specific jobs and star players, whereas most armies are largely a whole bunch of repetitive minis that get boring to paint after a while. also, it has a surprisingly rich lore, the old star players and companion books are really fun to read and the books by Matt Forbeck are really fun and entertaining.

I would think that, for that dinosaur, that they have the body all painted up that then use something like a little bluetack or a magnet on the head and then use photoshop to blend the seam away. I would also bet good money that the Primaris Desolators are going to be 5 in a retail box. Ever pose is doubled and they hid some of that with a reposition of the head or a weapon swap. The clue is look at the 2 with the gun being one handed. THAT is the same pose and they even have the same scanner on the backpack.

Those new marines shouldn't be that hard to modify. I imagine that the big missile launcher is a separate piece from the mini-missile rifle. Maybe swap the big launcher with the targeting array on the backpack so that it fires wherever the rifle is pointed. As for product announcements, I think it is in GW's best interest to give its customers some kind of heads up so they can put money aside for those future releases, just not too much in advance so players don't get overwhelmed with too many future choices at once.

You should play Blood Bowl, Jay! You would love it. If you play one off games, it's more sports and strategy, but if you get in a league it brings in the RPG elements because players level up as the season goes on.

The other downside to these big boxes is that even after they start selling things separately, stuff gets trapped on a sprue together based on how they were arranged in the big box. Then suddenly you can’t buy stuff like Venomcrawlers and Obliterators separately…

You should read the acastus box description it said on the article two 5-man desolation squads. Meaning yes you are right it is likely going to be in boxes of 5 not 10. Also there is a warhammer community article with details on all new rules for the superfrag, superkrak, vengor and castellan launchers and they are obsurd! One 5-man squad is miles more powerful than a whirlwind in every situation.

Those missile launchers would look so much better if they were carried like the new horus heresy heavy weapons set instead. It would make them seem more like heavy weapons and less like rifles with cardboard boxes stuck to them. I completely agree that they just look way too light to get across the role they're supposed to provide. They also highlight one of the things I don't like about primaris marines in general which is that all the units look like the same with different weapons where firstborn marines had a different character to them, even though they had the same mark of armour: devastators had more bionics and sites and beefier armour plates, assault marines obviously had the jump packs but also the little details like the harness etc.

My guess for the head is they painted one side of the model to match one head the the other side to match the other head then blue tacked it into place for the photos. Because the model is turned around in the alt photo. That's just a guess.

Obviously I don't know you personally, Jay, but I get the idea you and I are cut from the same cloth when it comes to actually playing wargames. We don't care about losing, we almost always do lose, but we have enough fun just playing and prepping to play that it just doesn't matter that much. I just want to make cool stuff, customize it, make it feel like it's "mine", and I wanna get that stuff on a table and giggle and laugh about it all :) (Also interested in Infinity just because the minis look SOOOO damn cool, but man, looking at it a bit, it looks way more complicated than I'm interested in. Kill Team is right there at the cusp of what I'm interested in learning, and my understanding is Inifinity, like Necromunda, is well past that envelope)

Lucky for you, Corvus Belli made an offshoot of Infinity that is simpler to learn for new players: Code One. I highly recommend it if you're intimidated by the full 4th edition of Infinity!

Bloodbowl is silly, and funny! you can use alot of strategy but as with all games the dice can end up badly. you can pick a team for brute strenght, or sneaky agility! i can recommend it

The good and bad of blood bowl is that even if you have a sound strategy (or a better strategy than your opponent), the dice can cause enough shenanigans that the game will still be competitive. I still think the better player wins 90% of the time, but your entire plan can be destroyed in a single dice roll, and require you to shift.

If use Horus heresy heavy weapons mounted on the shoulder, and kitbashed that way. That’s your best bet I think. Maybe use the missile launcher or lass canon. I’m really looking forward to seeing your kitbashed!

Play Blitz Bowl, which the simpler and in my opinion more fun version of Blood Bowl that is the Barnes and Noble exclusive.
