saving up $1100 to buy a new army and paying $1100 / month are different things, unfortunately OP wasn't clear

I was gonna say, $1100 a month rent, even in the suburbs in the US, is kinda a pipe dream now a days. Like best you could fo is maybe $1500 just RENTING, not a mortgage or leasing to own, RENTING. Low key US housing market is a complete scam, especially renting

My local GW has a manager that jumps on you the second you walk in the store and follows you round and always tries to sell you the most expensive things even when you have come in for something specific. I know it's his job but it has truly stopped me from going in there unless I really need to. I genuinely think the people that come up with these sales techniques have never worked in retail themselves as it doesn't work.

Yep my store is the same. I coined a new term of it 'vulturing' on you as soon as you get through the door. I avoid the store like the plague unless I can't get the paints I need. That's the only thing I would buy in a gw store

Have the same thing at the GW store in my home town. He even gave me his business card and when I came back a month later he didn't recognize me and when I showed him his business card he handed me a dozen more and told me to share with my friends.

20 minute mark. Rent is expensive! I pay $1k for a room! Im sure its regional but i have a food deal compared a lot of people. A studio or single bedroom in the north east US is like $1200-$2000 a month. Sometimes with nothing included. The only reason i have this room is because the woman renting it to me needs money to pay for gas to travel to work and she was very upfront about it. Prices are out of control here.

"It gave me an excuse to wear a gas mask in public"' Oh boy do I wish I could do that. A decade ago I could wear one without an issue and I did wear one for a Tom Clancy's The Division cosplay where I cosplayed as a Cleaner, but a few years ago I developed Ankylosing Spondilitis, which made breathing just laborious enough to make wearing a gas mask all but impossible. I understand what kind of agony OP is going through; aside from no longer being able to stand up straight or breathe fully, I have joint pain, muscle weakness and arthritis in most of the major joints in my body.

dude, pain is something that I've recently come up against too. Ive taken some damage to a leg and it needs to be amputated but of course docs want to save it for as long as they can. Im finding short little periods of standing and then sitting for a bit works quite well but my playgroup gives me a chance to have the leg raised so that i can drain the blood out of it too, it was a quick conversation explaining whats happening and it was sorted. I broke my spine a few years back too so back pain is a thing i know about and finding a decent chair is important, a chair is useless if you stand up worse than you started.

Been listening to this channel getting back into Warhammer after a long hiatus while I've been building and painting my new Gravelord army. Really, really excellent work and I am always a little sad when I hear you wrapping up as I know it means my painting time is passing. Went into my local Games Workshop fully expecting the worst since I've been hearing about all these horror stories, but to my surprise there were games being played, the manager was super laid back and answered my questions, pitched the starter set but wasn't overbearing about it. I actually ended up buying the starter set because it really was a good value for what I was doing and I felt good knowing I was helping him with his KPI since I'm in sales myself and know how that goes.

For scoliose walking a couple of kilometers every day has done me the best. So walk, get out you'll get all the good adrenaline shoot once you get back in. It costs nothing and it's an amazingly simple and healthy habit. Also hot water bottle and sitting on a lower seat for painting with elbows at near shoulder level and a straight back. Keep it up we need you in the hobby ❤

Big fan of NorthernExile... listening for years. I remember about 6/7 years ago listening to his experience with GW (old GW logo on white background) while moving into new apartment then he went offline (turns out he was in America). I have dealt with depression and in past half thought of ending it but was too much of a "coward" to go thru with it... then recently, my 18 year old nephew who I was due to play a game of Warhammer the next day when he, 'ended himself' with a train. It's horrible but only little slight positive was the reaction of friends, community and family in support, the fact that the devastation left behind made me think 'thank God, I didn't do this'

I remember when I was having issues due to arthritis and my weight when I was going to my local GW for gaming back when it was possible to - I explained to them about it and every manager was more than happy to let me use a spare stool to sit down on in the store while gaming, painting or even just chatting to fellow vets at the gaming night. The local gaming store now has 2-3 floors of chairs so not a problem anymore anyway :D

What you say about the value of a good gaming group is so true! Even though I'm very new to the A Song of Ice & Fire miniatures game, I dove in headfirst and joined a local league last month. Next month I plan on attending a local tournament. I've never done either of these things for tabletop wargames, and it's been so much fun. 💜 It's been so helpful in relieving the stress brought on by full time work and university classes (along with two volunteer positions). As has been said several times on this channel, the LGS is very welcoming and accepting (I'm a trans woman); most hobbyists I encounter are stand-up people. Recently took a 1 tournament point penalty to switch my army from Baratheon to Lannister, which resulted in my first win! Can't wait to take more victories with Tywin at the helm. 🦁

I play mostly at my locally owned game store, but the one time I went in to the gw store closest to me, I went to pick up the new eldar guardian models when they first came out. First time in the store so the floor manager talks to me for a bit, then I walk over to the eldar models and find the old kit. I look behind it and the new kit is behind one box of the old. I grab a new kit and the manager from behind me tells me I can’t get the new kit till they sell the old one. Literally refused to sell me the new kit if I didn’t buy the old one too. Left without buying anything.

Depends on where you live. I live in North West LA in a fairly nice area and rent here is $2400 per month for a 1bed apt before utilities. What mister England said is a half truth though... When I was making less income I rented a room in a bad neighborhood for $800 a month. Not being able to afford an apartment doesn't necessarily mean you can't afford a roof over your head. As time goes you'll eventually make more money.

Rent in America is insane. Unless you're living in the middle of nowhere, you are paying between 2k and 3K for a 2 bedroom apartment. Granted, if you can drop 1K on models in a month, then you can probably afford an apartment with a room mate.

K... That stalking habit of the dad isn't helped by just talking it out.... Tons of unforced therapy. Also you can kinda peg the dude for being bipolar and suffers from anxiety...... But I'm not surprised if that's the case. He reads like he is mantic, as well as the $1000 hobby expenditure. He likely threw it on creditcard I really hope he's doing well. Parents divorcing may be rough in the moment but 'this will pass'... And it will, even if it seems like it won't. And dude, family is usually the last tether keeping people from offing themselves. Don't tell them not to think that way. And don't dick measure with one person's trauma to another. You're telling people what you think they need to hear... Not what they need. However, assuming the money was disposable , there was some fair challenges on finding a place, his relationship with his brother etc. was a solid good point.
