Fun fact: the producer of "Road & Track's Need for Speed" and I went back and forth on music (or lackthereof).. He INSISTED that we put no music in stating, "when I drive fast I turn the music off". I said, "well, I street race probably a LOT more than you and it's music on all day, everyday". Needless to say, I stopped working on it and went back to work on my bread and butter, the Strike Series (I think it was Urban Strike or maybe Soviet Strike at that point...)

An interesting and useful feature in the 3DO version of Need for Speed is that you have 3 types of steering. Normal steering by pressing left and right. Fast/sharp steering with down-left and down-right, and slow steering with up-left and up-right

Cheers for the mention in the ending skit 👍. Much appreciated 😊 By the way, have you ever played the Japanese version of Saturn Need For Speed featuring only Nissan cars. It's vastly inferior. You can't even crash the cars. I'm guessing because Nissan wasn't in to that.
@GameSack
@GameSack 16 күн бұрын
Hell yeah man Retro Core is awesome! I originally did have the Nissan game in the script but then I removed it. I actually don't like it as much because the car selection is boring. But you can use the analog controller, so there's that.

Sure it's nice that Zombies's passwords are only 4 digits, but you really wish they weren't because they don't encode your inventory, which means skipping ahead means you start with nothing but your water spray gun, which makes later levels next to impossible.

I was a senior in high school in 1990 when my step Dad bought the Turbo Grafx CD for me and my brother, he spoiled us big time at Christmas. I was fortunate enough to experience Valis 2 and 3 on the Turbo Grafts CD and Valis 3 on the Genesis. As I got older and had my first son in 1995 sacrifices had to be made so owning the latest in technology for a home video game console was put on the back burner. Heck yeah I wanted a 3DO and Saturn when they launched! Great video and it really makes me appreciate my step Dad for going out of his way to make me and my brother happy….

At 5:20 - Grass on the Genesis = 3 colours. Grass on the SNES = 4 colours. Player characters arm on Genesis = 3 colours. SNES = 4 colours. Same thing across virtually every cross-platform title; Genesis version has fewer details due to fewer colours. Information that is clearly visible on the SNES version is absent on the Genesis version due to lack of colours. Every time.

Hey Joe, quick correction: you can actually play with traffic and cops on Need for Speed for Saturn and PS1 if you choose head to head mode and play on the 3 original 3DO tracks (Coastal, Alpine, City). And both Saturn and PS1 version has 3 FMV intros, they are all the same and are played randomly whenever you turn on the game.

i have a lot of fond memories with the 3do version of Need For Speed as well. The jerk guy you race against had a certain charm, the graphics were amazing for the time, and it's the only racing game I've ever liked enough to learn manual gears on. I remember it being really neat when you got far enough to drive through the forest on one of the tracks. That was really cool looking back then.

It's kind of interesting how one video game straddled the two halves of the 90s with Need for Speed. The 3DO release, pure early 90s. The PSX release, late 90s vibes. Minor changes make them feel an era apart.

I grew up with the Genesis version of Zombies Ate My Neighbors, and loved it. It is pretty much the same game as the SNES version, so either version is great in my book, though the SNES soundtrack is better. I had the 6-button controller, so the controls weren't much of an issue for me. I remember reading about the hidden flamethrower and finding the secret spot, but being really confused to why I couldn't actually find the weapon. Did not know it was only in the SNES version for some reason until much later. This has been the game I've always wanted a modern sequel to. Ghoul Patrol is a sequel, but I heard it wasn't that great, cause it wasn't originally developed as the game's sequel (I have both games on Switch now so I should try it). But there hasn't been anything since. I always thought a sequel would have been great for the DS/3DS as the bottom screen could have the radar and other elements while the top could be the gameplay. It's such a fun and unique game that just hasn't been replicated since.

I mean it's probably better that games are pretty much the same across platforms but I am definitely nostalgic for when they were different. There is a much easier way to grind for levels in Ys III. This was done on the SNES version, not sure if it will work on any other versions. The spot is at the end of Tigray Mine 2. Position yourself where the Raddel enemy can't touch you, but you can kill it and it respawns without you moving. Now, place something on the attack button so Adol will keep attacking. I usually do this before I go to bed. When I wake up I have a fully leveled Adol with max ring power and gold as well. A family member discovered this and since then, I have been finding other games I can use this on to level up while I sleep or go to work or whatever. This was my first introduction to AFK grinding or more like AFC. Also regarding Ys: The Oath in Felghana, It was first released for Windows in Japan in June 2005, then for the PSP in Japan in April 2010 and later in North America and Europe. The American PC version was localized by Xseed Games in March 2012 (info from Wikipedia). I have both the PC and PSP versions and I like the PSP version a little more because of the Double Boost and New Game+.

It's called just Zombies in Europe because our neighbors getting eaten would come across ad a good thing to us instead of horror.

Couple of other differences, but this time between the NA & PAL editions of _Zombies Ate My Neighbors_ - the PAL version was simply titled _Zombies,_ the chainsaw guys had big axes and were called lumberjacks instead, and the "Game Over" screen dripped in green ooze rather than purple ooze or blood.

My request for a game to see on multiple platforms is - Joe & Mac by Data East. Great game!!! Cartoony caveman adventure platformer type game. I rented and loved that game on snes. Looks like it was in arcades, snes, amiga, nes, gameboy, and mega drive/ genesis. A boy can dream. Thanks for all your hard work and content. I’ve been going back and watching for weeks! The nostalgia is amazing. Peace!

Cool intro! Subbed because of that and because your videos are awesome!! Comparison videos are super cool and I love me Saturn. Have modded nearly all my consoles other than my Wii U.

I had the MS-DOS version of The Need for Speed. I was amazed by the graphics on my crappy video card and the music coming from my Sound Blaster 16 made gave me goosebumps.
