Spec Ops: The Line has extensive commentary on both warfare and first person shooters, and I think that's the biggest game with the most commentary that I can remember. It also managed to toe the line (no pun intended) between taking a stance and asking the player to ask themselves hard questions.

In terms of making the likes of the NES Mini and SNES Mini expandable for more games, Nintendo could have made the cartridge slots functional, in that they could accept a small cartridge that would have say 30 more games on it, and they could have released one of these every few months so you could keep expanding the library for some time to come with a small handful of Mini cartridges. That could have been very cool imo.

13:00 The NES classic and SNES classic are perfectly expandable. I have zero experience in hacking but it was a breeze with Hackchi, you can basically put any NES or SNES rom on there. So yeah, it's not official, but you can't see any difference between the games you added and the games that were already on there.

Peter, if you like games that make you think about the world you live in, I cannot recommend a game any higher than Mother 3. Seriously, if you play this game all the way through then you will understand exactly what I mean; it's one of the most profound and tought-provoking games I've ever played, and it's more relevant to the world we live in today than ever. It really is a total masterpiece as far as I'm concerned.

I think they will change the packaging of the next version of the NES classic, but they will do it because of the same reason they change the packaging of the "nintendo classic" series when they drop the price: to respect the people who bought it in the first run and let their copies conserve the collectible value.

There is definitely still a big community that cares about achievements. Trueachievements/truetrophies probably being the main sites. I know Trueachievements has something like 350k members which is based around hunting achievements and runs multiple community competitions based around them. They put a unique spin on how they calculate achievements based on how many other gamers have earned them which makes it more interesting to a lot. Achievements when done right make a game have more replay value and make you do things other ways then you might normally. But Dan is right in that i dont think its a big deal anymore to most gamers. Id probably guess that 10-20% of gamers even remotely care about their achievements/trophies,and its probably closer to 5% that truly hunt them.

I personally hate most HUD/GUI stuff these days. It was fine when it was basically a black bar/strip above the main game in most old videogames, so it didn't actually interfere with the main game view, but modern HUDs/GUIs just clutter up the screen and pull me out of the game for the most part. Thank God we're slowly going back to minimizing or getting rid of them, or at least giving players the option to turn them off. One of the worst sins a videogame can do is to let you escape and immerse yourself in this beautiful magical world . . . and then pull you right back out of it with obvious "gamey" elements like overly intrusive HUD/GUI icons and displays. So, for me personally, the less HUD/GUI the better.

One question I really have about nintendo is how will they react to the next generation of consoles there is no way if the ps5 and xbox what ever (who knows what microsoft will do they really shot them selves in the foot with the Xbox one X because there is no way it can compete with the ps5 because it has the same cpu as the Original Xbox 1) comes out next year or even discussed (like announced for 2019 which would be weird). What I want and hope is for nintendo to push the switch as a handheld I think a revised form factor in like 2018 maybe spring 2019 that is smaller and with out joy con (basically imagine a ps vita that could play switch games) and then nintendo should make a new home console for 2019 to be in parody with sony and microsoft and focus their internal development on cross platform games.

I wrote a letter to gamescoop a few months ago about real world issues and if reviewers scores are affected, by their thoughts on certain issues. Do ign reviewers review from personal perspective or try to think what mainstream would like. I actually wrote the letter after Justin talking about his dissapointment with far cry 5 when first trailer came out, i sort of thought he might have said that maybe he might be religious, or is an extreme American patriot worried about themselves getting bad image.Then i saw this episode and him and dan stapleton, were at it again. I hope he does not review far cry 5.Or if he does stays 'In the context of review' ,as he puts it. He also said no other artistic medium gets away with claiming this type of ignorance, in his mind provking controversy which is total bullshit. I believe tv and movie reviews are becoming unreliable with more common biassed reviews for whatever sensitive reason. Please dont let ign turn into another worthless review site. I live in Australia and lots of games get banned or changed. Far cry 5 i really think looks good. I dont want to silence views, but from the worlds most popular games reviewers. I hope story game developers aren't listening to this. I want the most provking controversial stories ever, and not have justice police like Justin Snowflake, wrecking it for everyone. He is why games get banned.
@danstapleton23737 жыл бұрын
We're always offering personal perspective - it's the only honest thing to do. Otherwise, you end up recommending games you wouldn't buy yourself or telling people not to buy something you enjoy, just because you can imagine some hypothetical person having different taste than you do. That's not criticism (as in, what a critic does), that's just guessing what's going to be popular and then saying it's good _because_ it's popular. I think you might be misinterpreting what Justin was actually advocating. He wants Far Cry 5 to go further with its message - to really commit to it instead of using the setting as window dressing but then having nothing to say about it. He's not offended by it, just dissapointed that it's likely going to chicken out. FYI, the idea of "unbiased" reviewers is a complete fiction. It's not that reviewers don't have biases - we do - it's that _all humans_ have biases, especially when viewing any type of art. That's the entire point. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
@DefundtheABC7 жыл бұрын
Dan Stapleton wow. thanks for response. yes reviews are, and can only be, subjective. and it seems silly to get hoity toity over some comment of a game that hasn't come out yet. but I was sort of getting at the 'no other media provokes controversy' thing. there is a disturbing trend in the world at moment that ideas and creativity are being shut down, by extra sensitive people, who cannot tolerate controversial ideas. I would imagine it would be harder to write reviews today. I think like a good reporter, an unbiased telling of facts without emotional opinions. I really like IGN. I apologize for saying Justin snowflake. he did say it ' out of context of reviews'. There is a chance I could be labelled as Nazi. I just want good uncensored controversial story games.
@danstapleton23737 жыл бұрын
He wasn't saying no other medium provokes controversy. The opposite, in fact. He's saying no other medium is as shy about having a message as big-budget games are. He _wants_ games to have messages and be willing to offend some people. That's his whole point, and you seem to agree with him. It's not harder to write reviews today at all (aside from there being way more games now and having less time to write them in general). The thing that's harder now versus 10 years ago is getting yelled at by people who can't tolerate opinions that are different from their own. Social media has made that much more of a thing. No one's going to label you a Nazi unless you act like a fascist.
@DefundtheABC7 жыл бұрын
Dan Stapleton hello. no I don't tnink I am a fascist. I think the fascist (antifa) are some of the worst human beings. hopefully u have rewatched part so you know what bit I am talking about. Are not sure if I am going crazy, but I am sure Justin said outside of the context of reviews he said he is consistently disappointed by game developers shirking responsibility for provoking controversy, he says game developers run away from responsibility they have as artists to talk about and explain their controversial game ideas, wondering if it was just harsh opinion or some new American artist law I am not aware of. I am pretty sure they don't have to answer any question. If I was a game Creater, and Justin was asking me those type of questions, it would be a Verry funny and probably very fast interview. Surely an editor would not allow game reviewer employee to ask such insulting g questions. I found your response unusual, because I don't think Justin is for diverse and controversial story game ideas like me at all, after making that comment.
@danstapleton23737 жыл бұрын
Listen to Justin again. You have this exactly 180 degrees wrong. I have explained to you twice now what he is saying. You might also want to dig a little deeper into the whole antifa thing, as the anti stands for against and the fa stands for fascist. It means "against fascism."
