I was thinking the same thing here... It is actually specifically pointed out in the story and in the menus you also always see ashtrays. It is connected to the previous director. Good that I am not the only one who noticed this. Was already worried here.

Anyone that ever told me they didn't think CONTROL was any good I asked what they thought of the Ashtray Maze and always discovered they never actually finished the game. One of the best levels in any game.

Many people just play the main missions and end up missing many cool moments. On my first playthrough I missed the seize power and the entire mold sub-story. Then I realized that the side missions have great depth and even better lore than the main story. The Langston runaways, the mirror mission, the anchor boss that spawns clocks, the fridge mission are amazing and sadly many people will miss them

so glad to see this game run - one of my favourites of 2019, and this run lives up to how great it is. fantastic commentary too, can't imagine so calmly explaining what's going on during those chaotic fight scenes while also playing them. (although I was hoping for a Porcupine Tree shoutout in the credits, but oh well)

This game softlocked me out of the ashtray maze for some reason (very upset about this because the game is so good), and I ended up using one of the out-of-bounds clips demonstrated to skip past the lock and finish the game. Thanks Bryonato!
