Fun observation: I just noticed that "Andy" who wins the date with Monie is actually Andy Collins. Who worked for Hewland International, who made the show... so not a plant in the slightest eh (though by all accounts, a lovely chap - how did the date go Andy?). He later went on to present Family Fortunes. I don't know what his role was (if any) on Games Master, but on its sister-show on Sky, Games World, he was an off-camera, kid-safe, standup comedian and warm-up presenter who was there to get all the yoofs cheering, energetic and hollering just before the cameras started rolling and Bob Mills took the stage for the actual recording (a role he's even continued until recent times for Ant & Dec, or as they're more famously known "PJ and Duncan"). I wouldn't be surprised if he did the same for Games Master, but only an audience attendee would be able to confirm I expect, unless some of the old crew are still floating around online and want to chip-in (used to chat to a fair few of them, but lost contact a long time ago). He later got promoted to presenting season 4 of Games World (the low budget final season that used Games Master's desert island set and aired for 15 minutes in the pre-school graveyard slot of 7am, practically "Up with the Partridge"), and later also presented Game Over on The Computer Channel/.TV which was also produced by Hewland, featuring what last few GM/GW production crew that could still be hired for a tenner... though that said, Game Over actually started the comedy career of future-star Matt Berry, just as Games World had done for David Walliams, so is actually an integral part of television history. I hated this season, but I still watched it at the time, since I was a child with low standards, but it introduced me to Mortal Kombat, which I've been a lifelong fan of to this day, so can't say it was all bad (definitely miss Daniel Pesina's energy in the franchise). Great video, can't wait for more... hope you may one day tackle Games World too?

Yeah the oral history of gamesmaster talks about all the behind the scenes stuff and why series 3 has this ridiculous kids championship which is because the UK government started using Oxford prison to rehouse prisoners after they filmed the first block of the series and so had to use the house setting instead and make up the tournament to save the series. This series also had a new director and producer and explains why it's so disjointed making Dexter fletchers life a lot trickier when he was told to ad lib about a subject he knew nothing about. Also girl from series ones name is definitely dolat as she is in the book pictured with DD so that mystery is also put to bed

And if I can remember that just before it's shown in this video, then I've spent 30 plus years filling my head with absolutely nothing of value. Dexter Fletcher was and is a very talented fella. This was just the wrong vehicle for him

Just like Jeremy Guscott on the ITV era of Gladiators when John Fashanu had to leave for a while.

Despite everything, I can't help but feel for Dexter on some level. While you'd tune in for any glimpse of games back then, Dominik was the main draw. Watching awkward children and minor celebs play games badly is fundamentally not entertaining, and Dexter clearly sensed that without knowing how to fill the vacuum. Unfortunately, the hard sell of manic noise and forced enthusiasm only emphasised how shit the product was. Full marks for effort, zero for aptitude. Great video, as usual, big laughs from the cricket segment.

39:01 there's so much blood and guts, and plenty of fest action violence that I wouldn't be surprised if British Rail had a hand in it's development.

It's Dexter Fletcher, a legend.

Legend? What for... the Rachel Papers? He's always been awful and his directorial efforts are appalling, sentimental tosh.

@newsbender conjecture isn't fact, remember that when pushing your diatribe. Have a Happy New Year.

These reminisces of Games Master you do are the best retro gaming thing on KZbin that ever happened. Genius. I can't wait to see again the series where Dominik Diamond thought he'd become "Brit Pop" cool.
