Like Rin said is mostly by accident. People play the game a lot, in different ways, eventually you're gonna find a glitch. Sometimes you don't even realised it's a glitch or if its useful but that's why theres a community.

I can tell you it's not just for show, I actually use it quite frequently for things like groups of enemies that surround me, especially 1 hit enemies like bats, slimes, and mini stone talus' or if you need to send small enemies flying off a cliff.

theres actually a little more advanced tech you can do with them that i accidentally found out trying to look cool. if you backflip and drop a bomb in midair, it removes the need to back up to parry the blast. harder, but cooler and faster.

I've played for several hours now and barely progressed the story since I just went ahead and ran around the map unlocking things. I may have gotten a bit overpowered now though due to all the exploration I did firsr, the first guardian fight didn't really posed any challenge.

I know it's been over a year since this release, but I'm really curious about something. Have You(or anyone) ever done a 720 spin with the master cycle by simply pressing the master jump? I believe it will only work when jumping off a cliff. I've done it once, but can never recreate. I've looked online but never can seen to find anyone talking about any 720 jump feature with the master cycle.

All this stuff is awesome! Heres a neat trick with bomb parries i discovered on my own. If you backflip (same as you would to flurry rush) it eliminates the pick up prompt and looks really cool. It's definitely harder to do, but is faster and maybe has some implications for speeding up combat
