I'm a massive Sony fan along with PC. When this first started getting great reviews I was a bit pissed as I was loving horizon and felt it was getting overlooked and this got a free pass because it's zelda. Well I finished horizon and my younger brothers have a Wii U they no longer use so I though fuck it I will see what all the fuss is about. And boy oh boy am I glad I did, so far 30 hours in haven't even scratched the surface and I think I would go as far to say it's probably one of the best games I have ever played. There's just something about it the feel, the art style the freedom it gives you and the constant rewards finding better gear and doing shrines for hearts. I absolutely love this game so glad I played it and I think it truly deserves the scores it got even though I didn't like them it at first I now see why.

@Daniel Betz - Well, you have a right to be wrong. I'll grant you that the Gamecube had amazing games, but with a ~3.0GB limit due to the small disc size, the visuals and limitations were shit. Go play Splinter Cell on GCN, PS2, and XBOX. The GCN had the power to pull off the XBOX visuals but it didn't have the ability thanks to the limitations of the stupidest decision by Nintendo to make small discs. I have all of Nintendo's games. They're just all on my PC. It's the same shit each generation. Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Donkey Kong, annnnd oh shit now a 2011 game, SKYRIM. Woooo! Skyrim.... the game everybody has thousands of hours on already.

I granted you that the GCN was a great console. And that's not necessarily true. Computer technology was not dependent upon gaming. GPUs are important in other aspects of entertainment than gaming, such as special effects and animation. Consoles are based on computer technology and not the other way around. Gaming would still be here today.

That Nintendo is for kiddys crap is viral marketing from Sony, it all began in the late nineties in letters published by magazines and in Sony Playstation magazine articles. 130 hours deep, and although I've yet to finish the main quest, I already get the feeling that this just might be the best game I've ever played. I'm blown away that this far along I still feel as though there's so much left to be discovered, and not just within the vastness of Hyrule, but in the very mechanics upon which the game is built. The attention to detail on display in BotW's world and many interactive systems is unmatched among its contemporaries. It's all the more staggering when one considers the game's massive scale. It boggles the mind! I lament the day I finally put this game down; It's going to leave some big shoes to fill, and I can't imagine they'll be filled anytime soon.

I really milked it and went 250+ hours before finally finishing the game to a bitter-sweet climax. Some of my favorite parts of the game are just looking at the map and saying, "I don't think I have been there before. That looks interesting." It might be a spot with rare insects/fruit, a Korak, treasure, bady, or just a really well done area (im looking at you Hot Springs). Every inch of this world just feels like a place worth exploring and knowing.

I own a PS4 and am SO glad this game did better than Horizon. Hopefully this sends a message to developers to step their game up. Not every single freaking game has to be dark, bloody and violent. I'm still looking forward to playing Horizon, but I feel Sony and Microsoft NEED to see this. I'm loyal to great games not a particular company. I may grab a Switch in the near future just to complete this game. Congrats Nintendo :)

Gaming is indeed a lot more mainstream now, but there are also more critics reviewing games and with all of them having their own subjective opinions it's almost impossible for games to get in the high nineties, especially when there's upwards of 70+ reviews.. Also, there are always those sites that just give out arbitrarily low scores without solid points to back up why they did so. I'm not saying BOTW is the superior game (I haven't played it yet) but the score is more impressive IMO. No game will ever get a 99/100 on metacritic again even if it by far the best game ever created because of the reasons I listed above.

I couldn’t agree more! This game is absolutely amazing. The world is beautiful, the mechanics are well thought-out, the puzzles and mysteries of the game are just difficult enough to make you really think, there are surprises around every corner. I completed the story line rather quickly my first time but I missed out on a ton of things! So I decided to restart and really play it in detail. Both my fiancé and I have been OBSESSED since then. He’s typically and XBox guy but he loves this game as much as I do and we play it together, taking turns defeating difficult enemies and solving shrines. It’s a bonding game for us and we have so much fun discovering everything together little by little. By far, the best Zelda game i’ve Ever played!

I played this game for hours every day which caused me to complete it within just a few months. I wish I would’ve taken more time to enjoy it because the feeling this game gives you when you are exploring is truly breathtaking. Now that I have beaten it, I can’t get that feeling back. I want nothing more than to erase my memory, just like link, and to experience this masterpiece again.

OG Xbox fan here, I only got into the Switch in May 2020 after not owning a Nintendo console since the Gamecube. Breath Of The Wild is best exclusive on any console ever. My usual games are Read Dead 2, GTA, Apex, Halo, Battlefront and other more ''adult games'' but BotW is a master class in gaming, 170 hours into the game, and i'm still in awe.

This is actually a very good review that accurately captures the feels of playing this game. It definitely constantly delivers a sense of wonderment thanks to its environment, characters, and everything else this game presents. Going off of that, the reviewer touches upon a strong point: the appreciation of nature and the desire to be immersed, lost, and finding your own adventures. Some people won't appreciate this game because they're focused too much on going from point A to B. But for those who want to escape the real world and seek some zen, this game provides a huge sense of immersion and that's at least 1/2 of the experience of playing BotW. I appreciate this game so much and I'm glad most people do too.

Never played a Zelda game before, got a switch OLED and after seeing high praise for this game I bought it. Got completely lost in it for a few months, its im my top 3 games of all time. I won't go into detail but you can tell right from the start that this game was created with patience and love. The enjoyment of exploration and discovery is unparalleled in any other game. Its worth buying a switch just for this game. My only criticism would be a fully customisable UI. I would like to turn off ALL counters and displays to fully immerse myself in the world. The stamina wheel really started to annoy me being right in the middle of the screen. The world is so beautiful, detailed and immersive that I don't want any UI interfering with the view whilst I'm exploring. Boss battles should be harder too. Buy this game now before you die, you will not regret it. Excited for BOTW2, hopefully they implement weapon crafting.

I like some Nintendo titles a lot, like some of the Mario games, but i have never gotten really into a Zelda game.. I tried Wind Waker, i tried Twilight Princess, and i even tried Ocarina of Time.. This time it just fucking clicked, the game is just a constant flow of "that's pretty cool actually" moments. From someone who definitely can't be described as a Zelda fan, or even a sandbox fan, this game is fucking cool :)

Why BOTW deserves a 10 and HZD dont? For just one reason, in BOTW there is progression and your character grows while you advance and it feels rewarding, in HZD you dont feel the same, nice world and graphics but once you see the game has to offer there is no more, has the same mechanics( gameplay, combat, sidequests, etc) the entire game

to be honest , it's because Nintendo has been shafting it's loyal followers. Think about it, they are cancelling manufacturing of it is several regions and there is still a shortage when it was clearly I'm high demand lol. That console was just a system used to create a fake supply shortage to promote the Switch, I mean if the NES classic is low in stock so will the switch. One of my favorite things about this game is how you choose your battles You could look at a camp of high ranking enemies but you may lose more weapons than rewarded On the other hand you could fight a group of low leveled bokoblins and keep your weapons fairly intact but will receive low leveled weapons as a result The Risk and Reward system in the game keeps it interesting for the many hours to come and even when you have seen it all when it comes to combat, The amount of Shrines that exist just makes you stronger and more agile which keeps it fresh and interesting for the long run The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is truly a masterpiece of a game only bringing excitement and thrill as you progress opposed to other games which the progression lacks in any fun or thrill when you equip yourself in powerful gear This makes starting more then 3 runs still keeps it fresh and ensures that you will be guaranteed fun with every one
