It's nice how Lynch pays tribute to The Shining. A body of a woman/man is found on room 216. The neighbour lives next door, but his room number is 218. This actually means that the bedroom the body is in, is room 217 which is the famous room number from The Shining (in the book - in the movie a different room number 237 was used).

The scene with that weird entity in the glassbox scared the absolute shit out of me. I never found BOB or the other stuff of season 1+2 particularly scary, but that sort of lovecraftian horror we witness in the new season really hits my nerve. There's just nothing more unsettling to me than the notion of the vastness of space, the unknown and unknowable entities it harbours and our own insignificance within it. I think that scene captured that perfectly. Not a fan of all the gore though, still I'm pretty intrigued so far.

Lynch has a thing for the sound of a needle on a record and general electronic noises, it's in Inland Empire as well. Next to Coppola (especially in The Conversation and Apocalypse) he's probably the director who pays the most attention to sound design, yet another reason his work is so absorbing and fascinating.

This is the perfect accompaniment to watching Season 3 of Twin Peaks. Having someone to help you break down and analyse each episode is what Greg and Ryan do (even if they are wrong sometimes :-) ) These breakdown episodes should be released on to DVD to be purchased alongside Twin Peaks 3: The Return. Watching an episode followed by the breakdown of that episode is pure heaven and a lot of fun.

I love in that Ruth Davenport scene how these cops find this extremely gruesome, nightmarish crime scene and that one cop's only reaction is to say "uh oh..." It's so underwhelming and childish, really adds to that Lynchian vibe that I love so much. :D Also the POV shot slowly travelling into Ruth's bedroom where the corpse is in the bed is very, very reminiscent of Mulholland Dr. where we get the same POV shot in the apartment where we also discover a rotting corpse on the bed.

I was slightly disappointed at first with the slowness of the first two episodes - it wasn't just the pacing but the complete lack of a notion of even some direction a storyline was going in. However, I think that's why the first four episodes were released on demand straight away - the next two episodes are a bit quicker with more going on, and instantly excuse the slowness of the first two imo. I haven't rewatched them yet, and this video is the closest I've had to doing so but I think, with the knowledge that things get going a bit more shortly after, I can really revel in the tranquility of these first two episodes

Lynch , unlike in the original series, jumped straight to getting on my nerves with this one. Watched intently, wanting desperately to get back to that original Twin Peaks vibe. Unfortunately he chose to completely ignore trying to present Any kind of plot whatsoever, and just went straight to the "avant-garde " meaningless visual "video paintings" if you will, that Lynch so loves. Problem is, presenting it with all the randomness of a stray bullet ricocheting around inside a bizarrely shaped iron room, left me less eager to continue watching, and more interested in grabbing him up by the collar and saying " This better be going somewhere!! And you better get on with it!! "

Hey, guys. I like your Twin Peaks videos. But I think your analysis would be stronger if it were more disciplined. That is, at times your ideas are based on form or semiotics. At times your ideas are based on auteurism. I think these disciplines/schools of criticism can go well together, though auteurist interpretations can easily become speculative or coercive. I'm sure this is why Lynch consistently refuses to comment on his intentions. Regardless, you lose me when you start speculating on how an audience might respond to the show. One of you said something about a hypothetic viewer who "really isn't that into David Lynch & is just trying to sit down & watch" the show. You said that viewer might be turned off by the pacing. Respectfully, is that really your response to this aspect of the show? Inferior art has flooded the market since the Dutch Golden Age in response to casual audiences. Who cares what they think? I mean that respectfully. Lynch is one of the most innovative filmmakers of my lifetime & you're interpreting his work through the lens of business majors & soccer parents. To finish my original thought about disciplined analyses, I don't expect everyone to interpret art as critically as I do. But I think the way we discuss it could be so much more satisfying & fruitful if we understood the terms on which our discussions were grounded. Anyway, I really enjoy your channel. Thanks for hearing me out.

Even though it gets bit Wim Wenders at the oddment, I can think of no other filmmaker like Lynch. This is a rip-off of Lost in Vegas kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGrVh5mvhM2nj6c. He shot on digital for 2005's Inland Empire. You could tell. But on Twin Peaks the /Retur, I can;t tell. The cinematigraogy is mind-blowing on TPTR. The lighting is so Lynch. He can make even an American suburban home seem gothic. He's got an uncanny aesthetic. Got when that homeless face-covered thing walked down the corridor in Ep 7 and froze the hackles of the female army lady who was there, to check out the prints of a 40-year-old who should be a 70-year-old..Perhaps that was Lynch's optimistic comment.

Why you looking for comedy in the Twin Peaks? Comedy never was a bedrock in Twin Peaks, just a little relief and filler between real stuff. When show got to much in to the comedy it really sucked and became pointless, boring and just lame sitcom. Slow pace scenes are the best in the first episode, honestly, I felt orgasm watching, I wished it never ends. Maybe this return is not for huge masses of viewers like it was 25 ago not for everyone, but it's OK, you can't please everybody and still be very good, main stream viewers shouldn't be in the driver's seat.
