I still go to my local GS stores, but their selection is shrinking significantly to make space for toys, apparel and smartphones/tablets. I don't rely on them for any of my purchases, as they don't keep retro games and their new games have state taxes applied to them (whereas, Amazon bypasses that). One thing that has remained consistent over the years is the constant fluctuation of staff. Seems like they have a new set of workers every month. I think the big challenge GS will face will be the gradual phasing out of Physical media which may happen in the coming years.

I was banned from Gamestation for telling a customer tesco had an xbox deal on...it was a passing comment while looking at xbox games. Manager ended up following me to argos where he told me i was banned. I grabbed him buy the neck and threw him in the road haha he ran off saying dont lay a finger on me again or he will call the police. Ah the good old gamestation days :D They closed down two weeks later

I worked for Game when they bought Game Station. When we closed their store and took on their staff. The stories they told us about what they used to get up to were shocking. I hate seeing businesses go out of business but I was glad they went under in the UK.

+Mr Know Nothing There was so much but the main thing I remember was that they used to trade in used Playstation 2s and if they ever come back broken after being resold they would always tell the customer that they broke it. Sometimes the managers used to push people into selling broken consoles. Their business practices were shocking! The stuff the staff used to tell us used to shock the shit out of us!

I only went to one store which was in in Kirkcaldy, back in early 2012. I bought a few games like God of War 3, which were in pretty good condition and were reasonably priced. I was also impressed with their selection of retro games from the Dreamcast and PS2. I wish I could have gone more often but the closest one to me was the one in Princes Street in Edinburgh, which shut down long before GameStation themselves shut down.

I had a situation like this with tesco with my ps4 on launch day , we had pre ordered the console around 6 months in advance and where told it was going to be £350 I think it was, and come launch day we where charged an extra £30 because it came with a game nobody was told about. I feel for the people who turned up at the midnight release for it. Shops shouldn't be allowed to do that

I never had any problem with Gamestation, I could always pick up a bargain or two, but saying that I never preordered from them, I would always pick up used games mainly from the retro section. My best find was MGS: Twin Snakes, Mario Kart Double Dash for the Gamecube and Batman Arkham Asylum for PC in a 3 for £10 bin.

When they were giving away rare Pokemon in my local GameStop, they kept saying you had to pre-order the Pokemon games in order to get the Pokemon Codes, luckily I pointed out that the posters said 'no purchase necessary' but sadly many participating GameStops put up fake posters that said pre-orders were mandatory.

also where i live now we used to have 3 gamestations(2 of which are game) and 3 game(one of which is still open but it used to have one directly underneath too) so yes they did kind of go over board

gamestation was never initially part of game. Gamestation was an independent when i was working for them, then Blockbuster bought out the company then when blockbuster went into administration they were sold to Game... biggest mistake ever. Game goes into administration and liquidated the Gamestation assets.

My local game and gamestation i had no problem with, just the odd employee giving lip. I remember when my cousin went in looking at DS games, he went to buy Harvest moon and the cashier made fun of him.

I know I'm late to this particular party but I loved Gamestation. Also I thought Game bought them? my local one was turned into a Game but that closed last year...

I remember game station had a really good retro section . I got quite a few nintendo games cheaply . then they got rid of all that :(

i once went to a local game station and said "my xbox 360 play and charge kit is broke and i cant find the recipt" but the staff said "thats ok we will change it for you your a trusted customer we see you in here alot" haha turned out i bought it elsewhere but for some reason i was convinced i bought it in GS

I worked in Gamestop from 18-21 roughly, on and off. I gotta tell ya, they have very strange business practices and lots of shady shit going on usually. I don't blame ya!

+Caldorian I had a manager who did an unofficial contest for an original xbox, we literally gave shit away to get subscriptions. We had this kid who went in cahoots with the same manager and stole literally like 40 PS2s and Xboxs the day of release out the back door. It was insane. I guess more people related than the company.

Shady but Gamestation was also a good shop depending on the store manager the owners advice was to trade in everything but bring down the price if items were thought to be hot... like 8 copy of xfiles volume 3 lol... also excellent dumpster diving!

Where abouts are you from in the UK mate? I ain't got alot of subcriptions to UK video game youtube channels like yourself as most I follow are American but I must say, I like your reviews. It'll be good to know another fellow UK gamer from youtube that doesn't live too far.

Seriously... if they did such a shady business like "if you want this game, you MUST buy a strategy guide" over here in Germany... I can't imagine *ANYONE* buying there! Every last customer would say something along the lines of "If you don't want my money for that game alone, well tough titty, I'll buy it on Amazon!" I mean, what the hell?? You don't make money by patronising your customers!

With my Gamestation I got a pre-owned copy of Left4Dead 2 when I was like 12. I got an error with the game and returned it and got another pre-owended copy about 3 times, that still didn't work. then i just said fuck it and brought a new copy...

Bought a Nintendo ds from game with 3 dead pixels on the screen, they refused to refund me. I was 16 and made to feel like a criminal for asking. Went home gutted Bought a PS3 from game and they guy said it came with a hdmi cable, it didn't, I made them give me one for free. Bought a ps4 for my lady and it and with last of us download code. The cashier forgot to give me the receipt with the code stapled to it for the game. I rang them when I was home and they said I didn't leave it, I rang back and asked to speak to the manager who found the receipt who found it, I went on picked it up and the download code for last of us had already been used.... No refund offered for the value of the game one of there staff clearly downloaded Awful company that has literally ripped generations of gamers off

I actually liked gamestation 1. Never checked for ID 2. No case games always cheap Game always refused to sell me 16+ Never pre ordered anything

both stores were always overpriced. games pc range pricing is silly if you dare call into one. cd keys or amazon is my places to buy now
