I’m a huge fan of the Mega Man franchise and I’ve known most of the plot for both timelines pretty well but I’ve never looked at how Wily’s actions from the classic series influenced the rest of the original timeline. But I’ve always seen Wiel is Wily but as some kind of clone.

Little heads-up: It's been heavily implied that Wily's conciousness was digitalised and copied, and then was put on at least 2 Reploids, them being Serges from X2 and Isoc in X6. So when Sigma says "I met an old man who knows a lot about you" he might actually have met Wily in a different body, under a different name. Like Serges, who was working for Sigma as a X Hunter.

Not to mention he was basically torturing Zero with memories and messages in X4 and 5 Had zero not been so conflicted with what he was seeing in "dreams" he might not have been so closed off after killing iris, in X5 and X8 u can see he's still broken up about it, in X5, he wouldn't have offered to STAY dead(an act that did little to nothing besides mess X up and make him more adverse to fighting, which we see in X7) and maybe wouldve come up with an idea for the mother elf much sooner than he did It also caused him to not care too much about Layer, which, although it was small, Zero wouldve hopped down sooner if he wasn't beating himself up over iris death(sumn sigma, and basically wily caused). Wily cockblocked his own son😂😂

Yeah, you can definitely count this as Wily's win when seeing it from the perspective that humans are wiped out, and that Zero outlasted X... But you could also see this as Dr.Light's win, if you instead see it from the perspective that humans and robots are finally living in harmony as the carbons, with there still being a Megaman out there to protect the peace.

Zero outlasted X, but he was also in stasis for at least a century when X was still active, technically making X older than Zero by about a century by the time X died in Zero 2. X effectively lived a longer life than Zero.

But then again, it seems like the Wily Virus outlasted them both, since Mavericks seem to be an issue even as far as in the Legends era.... Sigma is suitable for realizing Wily's ambitions, but not Wily's technical expertise. The X5 reference to an old man may refer to Wily's consciousness manifesting in Serges (and later Isoc.) Weil seems to be a copycat (which is on point for the Z series), but one could speculate that Wily's consciousness had eventually found a way to manipulate a human host unbeknownst to them.

The only problem with this theory- when exactly didn't Dr. Wily state he wanted to wipe out humanity? It always seemed he wanted to "Take Over the World", (as you noted the early virus caused Robot (Master)s to emulate), via Robots... Ruling over a dead world never seemed to his goal. So, how did he win- the series doesn't end with Wily (or his continuation) ruling over humanity, or even a world of robots/carbons- flipping the table doesn't mean you've won the game, just ended it.

No. He did win, at least for a period of time. Almost everything was destroyed by Dr.Wily by the end of mega man zero 4. Its only after several years that magaman zx takes place and thats when we even see proper civilization compared to the other games in the franchise.

@@kartyy4101 Megaman Battle Network and Megaman Starforce are technically a separate timeline. In it, Dr.Light goes into internet research instead of robotics, but Wily is on the same course. Light still ends up revolutionizing the world, Wily still acts out. By the end of the Battle Network games though, Wily's finished. For the Starforce end of the timeline, the villains are all aliens if I remember correctly.

When I found out Legends was part of the main timeline and not some AU, it really got to me. I realized that if legends is the future, that ultimately MegaMan, X, and Zero's efforts ended in failure. Humanity was gone and the planet decimated to a point the Carbons may never even be able to leave it and go elsewhere. It made it kind of hard to enjoy the other games knowing how it all would end and turned one of my favorite series into something depressing.

On the contrary, I'm going to say Doctor Light's vision was realized. We see it a little in the classic megaman games, we see that goal really manifested through X's wants in the X series, and its conflict through Zero and Legends. Light wanted a world where humans and robots could live as equals, in harmony. He mentions the increased productivity by more intelligent robots, but he *sticks* to that even after the risk. X, who is rigorously tested by Light for DECADES wants humans and reploids to live in peace with each other. In Zero, we see the opposite. Reploids essentially being sacrificed for humanity's survival, leading to the reploid revolt, and Weil nearly wiping out humanity. Legends is when humanity is essentially taken back a few generations, and life we see is this hybrid of humans and machines. One human remains, who dies. A failsafe is put into place, one that will sacrifice all the Carbons to recreate the human race. Megaman refuses. Humanity stays gone. But the successors, these Carbons, these hybrids of humans and robots endure. The two races live in (relative) harmony. As one.

That's the problem, Mega Man can't kill Wily because of the laws of robotics. Rock might look like he has some sorts of sentience but he was still created abiding by these laws. I know you're gonna bring up Mega Man 7, where Rock just says "DIE WILY!" And "I'm more than just a robot!". This is a translation error, in the original japanese Wily simply asks him "A robot cannot harm a human" and Rock responds by lowering his buster and saying "...". Even if he wants to kill Wily, Rock cannot and will never be able to. The only ones who would be allowed to do so would be robots like Zero and X. These robots who have full sentience without abiding to the laws of robotics. And the reason X doesn't hurt humans is because of the morality training he was given by Dr Light when he was sealed for a 100 years.

@@misterk6488 Which implies two interesting things. 1. X _could_ kill Wily. IE: That if placed in the position Rock was in, X was capable of putting down the threat. 2. Light ultimately learned from his mistake of not putting down the threat himself. He had reasonable fear that X might become a threat, but rather than try to limit X, he put trust in teaching right from wrong. The real irony, I think, is that it would be Megaman Trigger who ends humanity. In a sense, Light was right to be extremely weary of making a robot with the ability to put down a threat like his former friend. Because thousands of years down the line, one _would_ end humanity. (And in perfect irony, it's motive was to spare lives. Carbon lives, but innocent lives nonetheless.) Bonus irony: Zero, Wily's ultimate weapon? Saved humanity multiple times.

@@cyrno143 Well he doesn't really point out anything new here. That is in fact correct. It is just a summary of how it came to Megaman Legends and Legends 2. Since there are different plot lines. Game facts recap for people who never played all those old games and are younger and only know the new ones and not the plot of the old ones. I have not played a lot of Megaman games in the past but I did know kind of how it worked. But looking at Megaman ZX and Advent I can kind of understand that it can be quite problematic to understand all this if it is the only one you have played. Advent ends with a stupid cliffhanger in my opinion. So contradictory in fact that they threw away the ZX and Zero games out the window after that. Too bad since those were 6 really good games. At least that's my personal opinion.

Yeah i was interested in what he had to say but he just regurgitated knowledge the MegaMan fanbase already knew, I now know how the Harry Potter fans felt, because he could have covered something new but instead treaded old ground.

Not really. This is still a theory. Most of this isn't confirmed by the games. It's just the most likely set of events. Lets not forget, Capcom played pretty loose with the lore for a LONG time.

Mega Man was my favorite video game as a child. I used to rent them for my Nintendo and beat them over the weekend. I played every one.
