Both games play on the fact that Luigi is usually left behind while his brother goes on an adventure to save someone. In pm64, Luigi is stuck home house sitting but can be visited. And in ttyd, Luigi get a letter for help after Mario left, and goes on his own adventure which you can hear about by talking to him around town. He was a minor sub character, but he was hardly barely there

Well done! In one of the trailers where Peach says something about joining to be reborn as origami, I wonder what happens if you say yes... Could it be an instant game over if you choose it (even though it's some right/wrong answer theory on the answer chosen does not affect the beginning). Reminds me of the Super Paper Mario game where the choices made can have hilarious consequences such as not putting on the helmet in space, or refusing to help save the world) Luigi as a partner, I highly doubt so. Yeah, as I said before in some other comment, the Toads we'll find around are probably the missing inhabitants of Toad Town, so finding them not only will help during battles, but it will also make the town repopulate, maybe with more and more shops and buildings opening over the course of the adventure. I love when games have destroyed and desolated areas that are brought back to life through our actions during the game, it's so satisfying. If I'm right, it's so, so much better than the Rescue Squads in Color Splash.

Great comment! I think this mechanic is actually one of my favorite in this game so far. The toads will repopulate toad town and open up shops etc. I heard on the website that the toads will also populate other locations. Also finding toads will contribute to the crowd mechanic. I cringe when people hate on the toad mechanic because it slightly resembles color splash. To be honest, I am a sucker for collectibles XD.

I thought they would only go back to Toad Town because the other places seem to have their own populations, being classic Mario enemies or those angelic Toads, for example, but I guess it still makes sense. This is the kind of collectible that I'm looking forward to in games, not the chance related ones, like the enemy cards in the Color Splash's card museum and the Roshambo Temples or, even worse, those that literally prevent you from advancing through the game, like the Rescue Squads. The collectibles related to progress work much better in games like Mario 64 or Banjo-Kazooie, where there's an abundance of them, so it's easier to meet the requirements and you can choose which objectives you want to complete.

He's just called "captain Toad" in the Japanese version. My guess is that the English translators are conscious of the original name backlash and are trying their hardest to add what they can in translation. Yeah, going back to the Toad naming convention of the first two games (where it was Pun T. with the t standing for Toad obviously) is something I hope they do more of as well as giving unique clothes and designs to the important ones. I wanna go over somethings I noticed with each gif from the website. 1,2,3,&4.) All four of these clips show us the Whispering Woods, which includes an area with a lake, an area where you flip over leaves to gain coins (and potentially Toads), and the Elder Stump (that's what I'm gonna call him until he has an official name) saying "It's doin' somethin'! Watch out, now!", which seems like a warning that something bad might happen, but what will happen is what we don't know. 5.) We see Paper Mario wandering the now desolate Toad Town with a Paper Macho Goomba in the background, and something appears to be in its mouth. From what I can tell, its either its tongue or a Shy Guy. 6&7.) The Sewer System has been confirmed to be under Toad Town, which doesn't really matter, but it's nice to know where some of these locals are in this game. 8,9,11,12,&13.) All of these clips show us in the Shogun Studios, walking in from the main entrance, to wandering the streets, meeting up with a Goomba, a Koopa Troopa, and a Snifit in tradition Japanese Attire, to being inside some sort of building with a Thwomp backdrop that has Kabuki attire on with us about to be ambushed by Folded Ninji's, to being in front of the main building (where that room most likely is) where both Folded Soldiers and Paper Macho enemies force us to retreat. This may lead to us entering the area where we may don Paper Macho disguises. 14,15,16,&17.) All of these clips show us in the Scorching Sandpaper Desert, with Paper Mario driving in a Shoe Buggy, to wandering around in the Snifit Oasis, to an important scene with us having Professor Toad by our side and him interacting with the environment, meaning he'll benefit us during our journey throughout the Desert, and then we see a Paper Macho Pokey Tower (not its official name, it just reminds me of Shiny Pokey Tower from Sticker Star) looming over us during a sandstorm, which, after we destroy, will cause us to meet Professor Toad. 18,19,20,&21.) These clips show us in the Great Sea, but I wish to focus on the final clip with the Skull Island. In the background, you can see the Purple Streamer, and more importantly, it appears that where the Streamer originates from may be currently submerged, and maybe doing something on the Skull Island will cause the originating area of the Purple Streamer to rise from the water. 22,23,24,&25.) These clips take place in the Shangri-Spa, which means that this is its own area, and the Green Streamer has nothing to do with the Whispering Woods, but rather the Whispering Woods is the starting area where you wind up after Peaches Castle has been dislodged from its original spot and placed onto the mountain in the distance. Nothing really new here besides a translation of one of the Japanese clips we saw a while back. 26,27,28,29,&30.) These clips show us the Autumn Mountain, but don't really show us anything new. So those were some of the things I noticed in these short clips! Please tell me what you think about them!

Same. If there's one thing that's kind of pushed me away from turn based battles it's the fact most of them tend to act the exact same in terms of mechanics. Sure, you have some greats like Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler than add a new mechanic, but most of the time it's just a copy and paste from other games. At least with this it requires thought. I'd also like to mention that while you may not gain EXP there's a high possibility that you'll have to use the coins you gather from fights to buy Gear, to help beef yourself up. There's a couple of points in previous trailers where we see a merchant stand with Gear items laid out, and my guess is we'll be using coins to buy them and we'll find the shoe and hammer upgrades.

Toads aren't typically all that powerful or useful as foot soldiers (hence why Peach is always kidnapped) with few exceptions. And considering he seems to just want to remake the world into origami he probably doesn't care what happens to the general populace after he steals Bowser's army.

Bobby's name was something added last minute in the trailer. In the Japanese game he's just named Bob omb" and even in the trailer when you read the text of the scenes you see he calls himself Bob omb. It's interesting the stuff they added to try to dispel the backlash.

[Things jon really messed up on...] Well actually the website does say more for the s th ory of luigi because there is a reason why he is missing, he is actually on his own quest to help track down the missing keys of peachs castle and support his brother by gathering equipment. Plus there is an equipment based menu with badges, i do know we seen some of them in battle like the "guard plus" with rubber band's attack. Or in some screenshots we see them in a shopping booth where a snifit is selling one with a mushroom as well. (2) you missed out some areas, because autumn valley isnt the last area, we seen in gameplay and screenshots that mario visits a mount Olympic like region in the sky, in a battle scene we are in a icy glacier fight crabs from mario bros, and we do know that we have a cafe place with goombas, and a hotel mario visits.

The Olympus area is most likely a later part of Shangri-Spa (same Toad statues, plus the resort fits the area name). And all those other places are a small part of any of the other areas, as you journey down the road. There are supposed to be many islands...and of course who knows what they're holding back.

I have a feeling that there's going to be a Vellumental boss that takes the form of a tiger, as the known ones (assuming the origami turtle and dragon are gained-vellumentals) match up to the Four Gods, the turtle being Genbu, the dragon being Seiryu, and the bird that's seen on the site being Suzaku. Thus, I feel a tiger that matches up to Byakko will appear to match. Maybe also include a different dragon to represent Koryu as well...

To add further credence to this theory the bob omb can’t explode what if Luigi found a way to disguise himself or shape shift? The entire games theme is pretty much transformation peach had a shapeshifting disguise in 64 so it’s not unheard of. Perhaps luigi is searching for the keys with the same thing gets knocked on the head and loses his memory as a bob omb? It would also explain why he can’t blowup because it’s just a disguise only a guess though.

It makes sense that the Japanese area is a theme park since the mushroom kingdom architecture is usually medieval fantasy, of course unless proven otherwise this is actually the first time we have seen the paper mushroom kingdom inside strictly the book universe. Sticker star doesn’t really have a set location but it’s not anywhere knew peach’s castle and Color splash is Prism island. (And The first game clearly wasn’t made to be a separate universe at the time and I am too attached to it being the mushroom kingdom of the normal Mario universe)

I haven't played color splash and put down sticker star after 2 hours so I don't know what's new and what's been brought back I do know that toads were more trouble than they were worth to help but if they "restore toad town" wouldn't it be cool to gain access to badge shops or item shops solely by locating the specific toads?

Really hope Luigi's role is more fleshed out in this game, and hopefully playable even if in small sections though I don't have my hopes too high. Worried that Bobby might only be a region (country) name difference since they just refer to him as Bob-omb here... As for Captain T. Ode....that's hilarious and I hope they bring back the Toad names from the first two games (where every Toad was Pun T.) and help the Toads feel a bit less generic since we'll be seeing a lot of them. Also there BETTER be a joke about him being confused for Captain Toad.

I agree. Look, for all of you hardcore Paper Mario fans, this game isn't like the original, and that's okay. From what we've seen, this game won't be like Sticker Star or Color Splash, not by a long shot, but it does what any GOOD game would do and tries to combine certain aspects from those games with the in-depth story and fun characters that everybody has come to love. In other words, while your concern is valid, stop being so stubborn and give this game a chance.
