What I loved about the classic Paper Mario from both the 64 and GameCube is how they made different friendly characters from the Mario creatures like the Goombas and the Koopa Troopas and Boos and many more showing that not all of them are evil and work for Bowser and that we can see both male and female versions of these creatures

The companions were one of my favorite aspects of the Paper Mario games, so when I heard Origami King would be bringing them back (kinda) I was actually pretty excited! I wasn’t a huge fan of the Origami King combat style, with the sliding rings, but I liked some of its ideas! If they do end up making a legit sequel to Paper Mario, I’d love to see some actual factual Companions that can actively help in combat, not as a once-in-a-while attacker, but a full on companion with special attacks. My go-to choices would be either, a new Koopa (maybe a Hammer Bro or a Boomerang Bro), a Blooper or maybe a Raven like Raphael?

It feels like Intelligent Systems knows what players want out of a Paper Mario game, but the higher-ups at Nintendo are their bosses and always have final say. I agree gameplay is important, but the primary reason you play an RPG with turn-based battles is the main story and often smaller stories scattered around the world from the NPCs you meet while traveling. Hopefully sending out surveys will give Intelligent Systems something they can point to and say "This is what fans want, can we please put all our ideas into the next Paper Mario game?".

What is funny is that they don't have to make a new game with every character being new. Look at M&L, they created Fawful or Starlow and they appeared again in future games. I've been playing the TTYD remake, and it's so good. Goombella, Vivian, Kammy Koopa, and all the others. I have really missed them. Among all of them, I find it kinda weird that not even Kammy was kept around as Bowser's minion/adviser. She's amazing. So yeah, I hope they go back to making unique designs for partners and characters, and come up with new species like the Punies, and Twilighters. But most of all, just... make the writing charming, and witty again. Give it some proper story and personality.

That's the best thing about Paper Mario is that it's NOT a typical Mario game. Where those will always have a basic story and basic characters, Paper Mario should be more about expanding on that. The idea that Paper Mario takes place in a story book works because it tells an intriguing story.

​@@Tactix_se I felt SPM was probably part of why they backpedaled and filled the next 3 entries with stock toads and vanilla enemies, because its characters feel a bit too disconnected from Mario. 64 and TTYD had a good middle ground with unique individuals of familiar species, and the new species they added still felt natural, but with Super it felt like Mario was dragged into a completely unrelated universe. I'd definitely prefer a 64 remake, because a super remake would need the TTYD combat system added to it, or else we'll fall into the same cycle of unnecessary gameplay changes.

The RPG gameplay is what did it for me (and my lil sister who i play this game with). The badges lending new angles of play and incentive to expolore, as well as the partner upgrade systems that made already unique characters more distinct was important and fun. The levels and their design were also huge for us, specifically how different they were from each other but also places you'd want to go adventure in (my favorites were the desert from 64 and the tropical island from TTYD).

The first 3 Paper Mario games were so great because they had interesting and unique characters, enemies, stories, and what could be done in them while the paper feature was more of a style. But the games that came after it really only added in a single new feature and then leaned heavily and completely on the paper aspect, pretty much having everything revolve around that, where everything was basically "Hey, get it, we're paper, nudge, nudge, wink, wink."

Paper Mario: TTYD Switch is not a remake. It's a remaster! There are dolts on FB trolling others and saying that that PM: TTYD Switch plays in only 30 FPS. That's not true at all! It plays in 60 FPS! It's smooth AF! They're just saying that so that people won't buy it. Anyway, I would love for a brand new PM game to be just like the 1st 2 games with the same Turn-Based battle system and gaining new partners! I think it would cool to have Luigi join Mario's party again. As he's only ever been in Mario's party in the SPM. It would be cool to have 2 partners with Mario at a time instead of 1 and then you really have to use your brain to figure out different combos with each of the partners' abilities to solve puzzles and then there are 3 characters in battle. Mario and 2 partners! Luigi is always an amazing asset for Mario's team as he has his own unique abilities. He may share a lot of similarities with Mario, but there are things Luigi can do that Mario simply can't. For example: Luigi can jump higher than Mario and he's faster. So, having Luigi help Mario in his adventure would be great! He should be the first partner to join Mario's party! They can make an enemy kidnap Luigi and Mario saves him and then Luigi immediate joins Mario's team! How awesome would that be? Plus, Luigi can wear badges, too!

Solid reason. I mean there is definitely a reason they skip right to TTYD than the original Paper Mario that's way more dated today. But can you play the original PM now thanks to Switch Online?

All I want is more new and original characters with unique personalities. The Thousand Year Door has SOO many great characters and so unique and impossible to hate any of them. I don't mind if they mix up the battle system here and there just as long as we get a good story and Unique and Original partners.

No one actually wants Paper Luigi… the whole point of what makes that so great and funny is that it’s mostly played as a joke bc we never see it: nor are we meant to really believe it bc most of Luigi’s partners elaborate on how much of his journey is made up of half truths.

The fact that they made Mario RPG remake and ttyd remake and they didn't even have to do that. They could have just easily remastered ttyd and put mario RPG on NSO but they remade it anyway .. that lets you know it's a bright future for mario RPGs. I think what's going to happen is they're going to test the waters when it comes to sales between ttyd and super Mario RPG remake at whichever one perform better I just think that's just going to be in the new approach tomorrow RPGs.. end of the day they both got original characters good stories

A new game based on TTYD with Luigi as a partner with some bros attacks. Oh wait. That sounds a lot like Mario & Luigi. Merge these two games, add some partners, maybe even co-op play, and heck, you have a formula that would blow you away every time. Honestly, since the studio of Mario & Luigi died, we're waiting for the next M&L game and a new Paper Mario could fit right into that gap. Honestly. But for the love of God, keep the turn based battles and the audience. Those things are what makes Paper Mario so great.

Ever since the bit in Origami King where you partner with Luigi shortly, I hope we get a Paper Mario and Luigi game (combining Paper Mario and M&L sagas). Imagine it working like Super Mario RPG, with 3 party members, and with TTYD partner upgrades, battle, and badge system

They kind of did that already, on the 3DS. It's called Mario and Luigi Paper Jam (where the two universes collide and "real" Mario and Luigi team up with Paper Mario).

They literally already have the blueprint for a new paper mario game. They just need to capitalize on it. Base a game around Luigi's adventure during TTYD. Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.

I personally desperately need a switch version of color splash the last paper mario game I need to play. But I agree as much of a fan all the paper mario games I have played, and I even enjoyed playing the ds games, the drop off is inherently when they stop diversifying there cast for a handful of the same characters.

Origami King was great, and it was because they went halfway back to the original formula we all know and love. The problem was the "halfway" part. It made you wish they would have *fully* gone back to the classic formula. If they had, Origami King would have probably been the best Paper Mario game ever made. Instead, it's more like the 4th best. I actually don't like the Mario & Luigi series. I think it's mostly because I don't like the battle system, but I feel like everything about those games is just inferior to Super Mario RPG and the Paper Mario series.

i played the orginal 20 year agos and beat it. and playing the remake now. i love it. its way better then the orginal. lot of improvements like fast traval and coin cap going from 999 to 9999 coins.. and i like the idea that you can challange any of the fighters in the glitz pit again. and 2 new super boss for post game. i really hope they will make future paper mario games like 1000 year door. and im hopeing will get dlc for this game like lugi quest. that will be fun playing as lugi with rogueport being the same hub and new worlds connected that only lugi can go to and the partners we seen with lugi when were playing as mario

I hope paper Mario thousand Year door. Outsells their expectations.. even regardless of the situation with canceled pre-orders from Walmart and Amazon Whoever is trying to sabotage the sales of the game.. I want Nintendo to get the message that people like the original more than these newer ones
