Nick completely missed the point when he was talking about how he didn't buy a PS5 until 3 years in and that "Nintendo was looking at that". The lesson to be learned from that is not "support your old hardware longer", but "don't make the mistake Sony and Microsoft did of making every title available on both system". If you don't have exclusive games, people won't care to upgrade. I'm not saying that they should stop supporting the Switch, but they need to have plenty of Switch 2 exclusive titles from the outset if they want customers to upgrade to the new console.

@@tippedjoshua6802 The trailer is 100% vague, yet those tha follow leaks have hard facts on the system: 1) the joycon attach with magnets, nothing points to it in the video. 2)knew about the optical sensor. 3) 8" LCD screen size & HW specs since years ago. With the mother board pictures those were confirmed. 4)We know about the high speed sd card support. 5) We know about hw support for image reconstruction, not hinted in the video. 6) Hall effect joysticks. 7)Potentially know about C button functionality. Those are from the top of my head.

Exactly! April is the real reveal. This teaser trailer was just to shut down the absurd rumours. Too many people believed the fake leaks instead of listening to Nintendo, who never promised a full reveal with this video. In fact, it's the "announcement" they promised to make in a post last June. The announcement is tease the system and announce the reveal date. Basically, what they traditionally do: tease, reveal, release. 😂

Tom's idea of a Star Fox Battle Royale literally gave me chills. I could just imagine all the chaos happening in the space battlefield. Lasers and bombs flying everywhere, everyone is barrel-rolling 😂. You can have like teams/squadrons working together. They can make it something like Star Wars Battlefront where you can board enemy carrier ships on foot and blow them up from inside. They can bring back the Star Fox Assault grounded gameplay too. This would be so sick.

Funny enough. Even though the original switch sound is also a snap, actually sliding the joycons in results in more of a click and the switch just emits the snap sfx. The original concept for the switch used magnets which resulted in the snap sound and they just liked it so much they wanted to include it. Full circle

I'm impatient to know the specs as well, but I can't deny the effecticeness of this reserved teaser, which seems to have made the public happy yet still ravenous with curiosity. The most anticipated news about the Switch 2 is its power--what kind of software it can expect to run. I think it is best Nintendo keep this entirely to themselves until April rather than blowing their load in a casual flyby reveal six to nine months before launch.

One of the very few things I'm willing to preorder is the switch 2. Will be great for traveling, hopefully it launches in time for summer. I think ppl underestimate how successful this will likely be simply bc of mariokart 9 at launch. They will show off the difference on 4/2... Also 4k is a gimmick and unnecessary when it comes to handhelds.

Now that I’ve had time to sit with it, I’ve come to a conclusion about the Switch 2 that I haven’t heard anyone really discuss. Nintendo calling it the Switch 2 is revealing. I expect a Switch 3 and (beyond that may be pushing it, but who knows lol). I think they have a vision for this form factor that spans a long way into the future. They hit on a combination of hardware features that people love. All they really need to do is refine their platform every few years to get bigger, faster and cooler. And obviously to keep bringing great games to the system. The future looks bright, if predictable, for The Big N. Edit: And although I was disappointed they didn’t call it the “Super Switch”, I still think that would make a great name for their mid-era refresh, a la Switch OLED. Super Switch 2, coming in 2028!

Maybe the inner coloured railing of the switich to which the joycons attach (the one everyone is complaining will be mismatched) is also replaced together with the joycons (so that it matces). It's hard to guess without knowing the specifics of how the console is built and how the joycons attach to it :)

20:50 I think April's Direct will reiterate that Switch 2 will be backwards compatable, but I don't think they'll be devoting time or focus to OG Switch games running on Switch 2. Talking about old games shouldn't be Nintendo's priority when talking about a new system. At best, this is relatively unsensational news. At worst, it confuses the Switch 2's identiry as a seperate, brand new console. If Nintendo wants to confirm how well old games run on Switch 2, they can do so in smaller scale news feeds, like interviews or a future direct.

It likely has to do with games that relied on the physical size of the original joycons. Those games obviously won't work with new, differently sized joycons. Same with games that used the IR sensor.

I don't know why you keep calling it a 'reveal' video when Nintendo clearly labeled it and set expectations as a _first look_ trailer. The expectations are completely different between the two phrases. As I saw it, the Switch 2 first look trailer was more substantial than the bare minimum, which is conceptual. We saw what the hardware would actually look like, and we saw a psuedo-preview trailer for what appears to be a new entry in the _Mario Kart_ franchise. What I did _not_ see was what I would expect from a reveal trailer - some of the things that you questioned. What's the actual difference? Will there be upgrades playing Switch 1 games on Switch 2? What are some of the specs (either hard numbers or soft expectations)? What is the near final launch lineup? What can third-party developers deliver? I got around what I expected, and that was based on the title for the video Nintendo set. It would have been disappointing if Nintendo said it was a reveal because it precisely left those questions (and more). The disappointment I've seen is based purely on setting expectations far too high for the limit set that Nintendo themselves provided.

Probably it was forced early, too, rather than shown at the end of the software Direct normally in mid February or even by itself in early March. The main reveal was always April. The Wii U name failed because people were already bored of the Wii. The last thing wanted was another Wii and more gimmicks. If you look back, Nintendo are very descriptive with names, and a "2" is the most descriptive of all. It makes complete sense given the Switch's wild success. I fully expect Metroid Prime 4 as the big farewell Switch game, and the focus of the usual Direct in mid February. "Coming soon" was recently added to its initial and vague "2025" schedule, so releasing it early March with not much else around will give it a huge chance to sell well. If there's some boost option for it on Switch 2, that will make it appealing there too. Nintendo rarely do "cross gen" (Zelda twice the main exception) so I would not bet on a double release at all. Remember, Switch could not play WU games at all, unlike Switch 2 to Switch. MK has never been a launch game so the fact Mario hasn't been one since the N64 would not disqualify it at all. It really could be either, while leaning towards MK because there hasn't been brand new one for so long.

I'm hoping and wondering if Nintendo will make a new Super Smash Bros. game for the Nintendo Switch 2. I was thinking that they could make a deluxe version of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch 2 (it be called something like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Deluxe, and it would have all the DLC from the original version in the base game, plus they add a couple new fighters (4 to 5 at the least) that weren't in the original), but since the Nintendo Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with the Nintendo Switch (1) games, that makes it feel like (to me) it won't be possible.

If they do make a new Super Smash Bros. game for the Nintendo Switch 2, I'm hoping that they make and add one of these 3rd party characters as a new playable fighter in the game: Crash Bandicoot or Spyro the Dragon. They can totally deserve being part of the Super Smash Bros. series, and it was disappointing to me that neither of them made it into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's DLC. Besides, Nintendo did do a partnership with Activision in having Bowser and Donkey Kong appear in Skylanders: Superchargers (the Wii, Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS versions), and Activision ought to return the favor to Nintendo in letting them put Crash Bandicoot or Spyro the Dragon in Super Smash Bros.

I play 95% docked. Old eyes really can’t play on the current Switch for very long in handheld. That said, I’m so excited for the new model and not even for third party games really (I have a PS5) but really for Nintendo to have more power for their own IP so we can stop having great game design ideas suffer from old tech. And I guess also for potential Xbox games bc I do think their relationship with Nintendo is going to grow as they go forward with putting their games on other platforms.

You can see the sensor on the inside of the joycon during the trailer, and they were sliding across a table with a tail trailing behind like a mouse. I think given the rumors, it's pretty clear that they were at least hinting at the feature

That reveal trailer was interesting to say the least, I wasn't super-impressed, but hopefully the Switch 2 will be met with lots of success and games to back it up, whatever they will be.
