It’s just that half of Nintendo consoles were failures so there was no need to continue support than hope the new device was successful. While not 2 years, I could see the first year of Switch 2 still getting support. Moreso from 3rd parties, but likely a few 1st parties too. Most won’t immediately jump over, and they’ll likely have a price cut which’ll sell more.

But all their other systems have done well. You want to talk about half a companies systems failing, that applies to Sony and Xbox as well.

i like this! the switch and ds both are very experimental and dont have a lot of whimsy in their interface and menus to be easily adjustable to by any audience, which is why i feel like and hope a switch 2 will likely dive into more whimsy, themes, and music like the 3ds did

I firmly believe the Switch 1 can actually break 150M units sold. To maximize chances, I say the Switch 2 reveal should be in Q4, so they can get one more big holiday boost in their sales.

A price drop would certainly move more units. The lower the price, the more units will move according to economic fundamentals. It’s just a matter of how much revenue they’re willing to forego to reach that coveted title.

You mean to maximize sales during the all important x-mas holiday shopping season, the Switch reveal should be in January (which is in Nintendo’s final fiscal quarter). Last time with the WiiU floundering, it didn’t matter to reveal the “NX” prior to the holidays, but this time is very different.

I feel like it’s going to happen it’s just a matter of time whether it can somehow move a lot of units within the next year or slowly jugs up there by the end of 2026 (Which would probably be the last year of any additional sales of the system).

I would love to see that but I doubt it with this latest update, by December 2023 there were 139 million, half a year later only 2.5 million more, sales dropped a lot, i was waiting 144 as minimum .

@@zeitok8 earlier in 2023 it was at 130 million before it jumped up to 139 Million by Christmas, so it sold a lot more during the 2nd half than the first half same case here, plus like I said it will probably sale more during 2025 even with a successor overshadowing it and that’s before you take into consideration that they will probably do a massive price drop on the original Switch. So it could still happen just might not be soon.

I get the feeling that the Switch will be Nintendo's longest-supported hardware. They may end up doing what Sony is doing with the PS4. That system is nearing 11 years old and is still getting support. The switch is totally capable of the same thing. Its possible that the Nintendo Online enhancements that the new system will bring can possibly show up on the normal switch too, like new virtual console systems for example. Exciting times my friends.

The Wii was also successful (though not as much as the Switch), but they still failed with its successor. Hopefully they’ve learned from their past mistakes, but there’s no way to know yet.

With how most consumers felt the WiiU was just a screen controller add-on and its subsequent dive bombing sales-wise, I would think that Nintendo would be very nervous about trying the strategy of evolving their most successful console again- especially calling it “Switch” as well because average consumers may think it’s simply another Switch upgrade and history could possibly repeat itself.😳

The Gameboy advance and 3DS were evolvwd consoles and did pretty damn well for themselves. Granted, the 3DS had a rocky start but that was purely due to cost and questionable gimmick. To me the biggest selling point would be if it can offer enhanced performance to already existing switch titles. Upping the resolution and frame rate of base Switch games would be a great way to entice people to go for the upgrade especially given that the performance of some games is... Less than stellar. That way, even if it has a small launch line up there's a huge amount of games that can not only be re-played but in the best possible form. It would also mean we won't get a scenario of filler port games like the WiiU to the switch.

Just how much can they replicate of the Switch? If I may do a bit of an analogy. Tears of the Kingdom shared a lot with Breath of the WIld and had an impactful launch, but as time has passed. Will that strategy keep working on the long term? I feel that's a mistake that could affect the next console. The big elephant in the room being both the sequel of Mario Kart and Smash Bros. Would those game try and likely fail to do the same as 8 Deluxe and Ultimate? Does games took years to get to where they eventually ended, and the launch of any new entry can't reach the level of value those games had. I do feel they should try to bring something new if anything to mark a stark difference with the Switch while keeping it familiar to it's predecessor. Maybe have a hardware feature to easily bring emulate DS, Wii and 3DS titles. New games could also use those features. I feel also leveraging their titles by working with more developers to do small spinoffs could maybe bring back in the limelight certain smaller IP like Game and Watch, Ice Climber, or Punch Out.

I don't like this announcement, especially the part that says "an ANNOUNCEMENT will be made within the fiscal year". This could mean that only an ANNOUNCEMENT will be made by March 2025, and if the announcement is delayed into Q1 of 2025, then we might not even get the actual switch successor until Q3 or even Q4 of 2025. This is also probably likely as Nintendo (supposedly) still has software for the second half of this year. The reason I say supposedly is because they could just have a bunch of shovelware or just another remake of a big game(which is disappointing). I know it's better to wait for a better product, but because I'm very influenced by the power of systems, it might not even be that better of a product. All we have heard so far about "4K 60fps" and whatnot is all rumors.

They are Remakes, as they are not using the same code as the originals with enhanced graphics. Super Mario RPG was remade from scratch by the Dragon Quest XI S team. Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door is remade in the Origami King engine.
