I always thought i was a good dictator. Sure, the people don't have a choice, but lets be real. They don't know what's good for them anyway.

Best game ever. I always sticked to Tropico 1, never found the fun in the sequels. The fact that you have to cut the trees and level the ground before you can build a road or a building really brings some sens of carying for your republic, seing the rainforest being destroy little by little while your farms are groing is also really satisfactory. I didn't fell the same with the sequels of the game which are way too simple.

Sim City always looked too daunting and complex for me, Tropico was my city builder of choice as a kid. So fun and the music in all of them is very catchy.

The Tropico series is yet another one of those giant gaming franchises that I never managed to get into, for some reason or another. Now seeing this video, it kinda makes me think I wouldn't super enjoy it since I'm much more into the citybuilding and cityplanning aspect of these types of games, as opposed to the being a dictator part :))

You should give it a shot, it's really fun. I've just picked up T4, and at its core its just a really good city builder with an added layer of political scheming. And the historical/cultural flavor is very well done.

Thanks for the suggestion, but fortunately, or unfortunately for Tropico, I have my oldschool citybuilder playing/reviewing schedule packed with some titles that I've been looking forward to playing for many-many years :) Make sure to check out my channel if you're interested in seeing some of my older citybuilder reviews, I reviewed Banished, Caesar 3, Settlers 2 10th Anniversary Edition, Kingdoms and Castles. I normally review indie RPGs, but I've been rediscovering the pleasure of playing citybuilders this past year, it all started with Banished.

The main appeal of Tropico for me is the whole self-sufficient characteristic of an island. Most city builders will have you building roads and a shop and that's it, the rest of the supply chain is managed by Society™️. In Tropico, you gotta build the farms and the whole transportation of both goods and workers. It's not a city builder, it's a country builder.

@@ylloboy this is absolutely why I love the series. You need to manage infrastructure and the flow of products much more than other simulation games.
