"It's a relaxing, slow paced, calm game." In single player at least. I can recall multiplayer sessions in the 10th anniversary edition that were quite hectic. Especially at the start when you want to be faster than the other players, spamming barracks to gain territory. :) Really hope we could get another remake of S2 that includes the Viking expansion (in English), and with good netcode. A bit like the C&C Remastered Collection we got this year. Endless fun, this game is.

You should really try Factorio if you haven't. It is all about managing production chains and transportation of raw materials and produce. Also there is some shooting to make your life a bit more difficult as if designing a functional production wasn't challenge on it's own.

Some unknown number of years from now, Factorio is going to be a vital part of something like this Gaming History series.

Calling the Amiga an unsuccessful platform is nearly blasphemy. The Amiga was superior in any way to any pc in those days and tons of games were made for the Amiga. It's not the Amiga itself that has fallen, but the poor marketing at Commodore and it's bankruptcy that made a stop to it. If Commodore would never had been bankrupt who knows where we would be today? But, the Amiga community is still thriving. New products for the Amiga are still made. The latest Amiga OS does confirm easily to the OS-es today. So never say the Amiga was a flop, because it wasn't. That machine was a beast in it's days.

It may be blasphemy, but Commodore made sure it wouldn't be successful in spite of it being a decade ahead of it's time.
@brrebrresen13676 жыл бұрын
if it had been very successful they wouldn't go bankrupt. but that doesn't mean they where unsuccessful, they just wasn't successful in the markets where the money where and when the market changed for consumers where they sold the most they didn't have money to follow the new trends and requirements because they had burned of the money off over long time on stupid projects like the 64GS, CDTV, and CD32.

>if it had been very successful they wouldn't go bankrupt. Successful businesses dont go bankrupt ? News to me. And hey, look at president Fart, he declared bankrupt on 3, THREE of his casinos. Casino is basically a legalised robbery of candy from a disabled retarded baby, how can it go bankrupt ?
@smalon755 жыл бұрын
@@brrebrresen1367 the Amiga was a very successful computer, the reason Commodore went bankrupt is because it was run by incompetent morons. The history of the rise and fall of Commodore is well documented and worth watching.
@brrebrresen13675 жыл бұрын
it was partly successful in the Amiga 500 years, but still outsold in the multiples by inferior IBM compatible's yet Amiga still made decent profit. so partly, not very. in the 1200 era for each machine sold it was outsold by the hundreds of "x86"s and they where bleeding money. so less than partly and far from very successful. and i know the history, and the reason they we're not more successful was because of the incompetent morons mentioned and they where not a later problem but a continued problem for Commodore trough all their history. having a superior machine for less cost don't make it very successful, only sales and revenue does...

My favorite gameplay feature is the fact you are merely giving out orders. Build this here and minutes later all details are taken care of you have your building. But you can't just ignore the details since problems will arise as a result of bad design. The "politics" settings are especially useful at giving out instructions of priority to the AI. I've been on the lookout for similar mechanics in an age of sails warfare game where you would give out specific instructions to your crew.

I had a lot of trouble running it on my machine, so I gave up without playing it much. But my copy came with a demo of Battle Isle II, which I played over and over. Also, if someone liked the settlers-series, they should also try "Knights&Merchants" It not as relaxing as settlers, because your people can die of hunger, but still fun to play.
@Yora216 жыл бұрын
I played Settlers 2 again this year. I never was able to beat the fifth level in the 90s, but this time I was able to finish the whole game for the first time over 80 hours or so. And it was not actually that fun. Or hard. After some time you figured it out and then it's just doing the same thing over and over. But it was still pleasant. But I then tried the same thing with Knights & Merchants. That one turned out to be just as simplistic and repetitive, but also much slower. That really got stale very quickly. even though I remember having played it after release a lot, just the first three levels.
@solitaryangel7226 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Settlers 2 was more fun because of the roads and the porters who moved cargo along their personal stretch, after that Settlers changed. I bought the 10 year anniversary edition and then Ubisoft released their online settlers game which was just a bit crap really.

i agree with settlers 2 was the best strategy, maybe have alot game what was more complex, better graphic but strategy experience was better than at others. (i loved the harbour maps in normal s2, sadly in s2 gold was removed the harbour)

So many games..movies...books..gets deluted into pointless grey mesh when trying to stroke audiances that are..poorly..equipped..to handle it downhairs. I'd rather stick with a original titlte if it gave me enugh cash to dev the next gen of my game series...and leave a crowd that only could handle extremly narrow concepts to enjoy what they made themselfs ,then to change things for no reason to acomendate them

Which one is better to play, Settlers II original, or the remake?
@unacomn8 жыл бұрын
I'd say the original if you want the full experience. Settlers 2 always had a better mood, better atmosphere. The 10th anniversary remake lacks that charm. But otherwise it is a fine game.

Man, I like and respect your work and I watch your videos on these great old games with joy, but I completely disagree with your stance on the Settlers III and IV and Knights and Merchants - I enjoy them far more, than I ever did the Settlers II, which is still enjoyable and adorable game. Maybe they had the same effect on me, like II had on you, because I played III and IV first (about animations and stuff). So no, they weren't awful, you just didn't enjoy or completely grasped them.

Settlers 2 10th Anniversary is the best in the series, at least I'm saying. Hated Settler's 3 and 4 because the road system wasn't present, the last few iterations felt underwhelming for me, felt more like playing Warcraft to me.

@ahouyearno7 жыл бұрын
Knights and Merchants was a cheap knock off of Settlers 2. I played KaM too, finished the entire campaign but in almost every way, Settlers 2 and 3 are better. The main reason why I like KaM is because it's different in just the right ways. Settlers only has a military economy while KaM has a second food economy to maintain.
@Aliestor7 жыл бұрын
It is nice to hear someone with a passion for Settlers but I disagree with most of what you say. Settlers 1 and 2 are amazing games but Settlers 3 took it to a whole other level. People have different points of view but it should to me that you speak mostly from nostalgia
@NightpireVideos7 жыл бұрын
I love both and see 1/2 as simulations, very close to something like sim city, while 3 went much heavier into the rts direction. At least that's how I feel about them
@ahouyearno7 жыл бұрын
In Settlers 2, the economy was a lot better than in Settlers 3 imho. I've played both a ton. The difference is mainly felt with the mines. Settlers 2 encouraged expansion because mines ran out fairly quickly. In Settlers 3, mines can last for a dozen hours. Magic also undermines the value of mines and a functional overal economy. The combat in Settlers 3 is a lot better and I could write an entire book about the brilliance of the involved tactics. Settlers 2 and 3 are so different that if they didn't share a name, no one would compare them with each other. Almost like comparing Civilization with StarCraft.
@Ex0rz7 жыл бұрын
Settlers 3 to me feels like a game I dont feel like returning to. Settlers 2 however I have played from time to time from the 90's till this very day. I didnt like the RTS aspect of S3 too much, but S3 was MUCH better than anything released after that... S1/2 were exactly "simulations" and thats what made them so good. The S2 10th anniversary edition was a huge disappointment, since you could only play as the Romans...
@everythingsgonnabealright88886 жыл бұрын
I concur. I love the Settlers IV, maybe it does not let you create an economic system, that works like a clock, but still I prefer it, because the settlers have much more personality, and not grid based building lets you create much more alive and real looking cities. And I do like the warfare in III and IV better - it's not so passive and uneventful. And that enjoyment factor was still there - I absolutely adored my settlers and could watch them work for hours. Still, I can understand the reaction of the dedicated fans of the series to such a drastic shift in every part of gameplay.
