Most updates now are the size of an actual AAA title. Phyiscal media drove up costs, but with inherent benefits, that weren't apparent until they were removed for profitability. And yet the cost of these games are 2x as much with washed and recycled gameplay, storylines, and themes. Entertainment in general has gone to ish. And it's because politics has washed all the fun out of society. Where's the comedy? Where's the handful of big ticket movies that can gross $1bil in a single opening year? Where's the crowded stadiums and filled stands? Get politics out of entertainment and I guarentee you some normalcy will come back.

I have a memory card full on idies on my Switch...all of them stay downloaded. The only game I removed from that memory card was Assassin Creed 3. It was so boring that I just straight up removed it from my game archive so I don't have to be reminded that I own it. I keep Firewatch installed on my Switch even though I likely will never play it again. I just hope somebody else sees it on my memory card and they will want to play it someday. It's still a purchase I'm proud to have made......not AC3 though. Delete that mistake from my memory.

back in the day, old good games were made from all these companies when all of them were small studios with limited budget and some nerds wanting to create something fun and/or special, basically they use to be that thing today we call "indie", so nothing had changed, we still had indies and even medium size studios and also some exceptions between the big ones that every now and then even with flops and mistakes they release good games some times (like capcom), is just that some of the old "indie" studios now are big, greedy and catering to dumb people, just ignore them, don't buy sht from them and don't even give them attention, they are not part of the (true) gaming space anymore, they just pretend to be (Ubi, EA, Act-Blzz)

The season pass is actually two expansions (dlc) that Ubisoft usually makes for its games, normally the price of each dlc is around 40/30 dollars in almost any case with some exceptions of some 20 dollar dlc in little-known games or games from the previous generation, so if we add to that the fact that they allow you to play 3 days before, it doesn't seem strange to me that people want to buy that edition, knowing the hype that there has been for this game for so long. Likewise, it is not known if the game is actually good as well as the DLC, but I imagine that the people who buy this type of thing are people who have already played previous games of the franchise or the company.

Exactly. The problem isn't people spending their own money how they want, it's the message the company gets from it. I think it was JC Penny who once had a ceo who thought they would remove the artificial inflation of their clothes, and instead give people a more fair price. Sales plummeted because people thought the lower price meant lowet quality. So he was fired (or quit), and prices went back up. Companies don't charge you what a product is actually worth, they charge you for as much as you're willing to spend. If everyone's willing to spend $110, games will default to $110.

A key part they leave out in that comment is yes, there might be more sales for the ultimate than the standard, but how many people are actually preordering it in the first place as opposed to previous game? 10 million people buying a game for 60 bucks is not the same as 10 thousand people buying the game for 110 bucks. I agree with you that the preorders is probably dwarfed by the actual number of people buying it on release but the scary part is that ubisoft and other game companies see will see how much people are willing to pay for the +100$ version with no decrease in the excepted number of sales for the basic 60$ version. This will then lead them to cut more and more content from the basic version of their new games to lock it behind the "premium version" up to the point they would see a dip in the total sales (basically the sweet spot of maximum profit) which overall will lead to incomplete shittier versions of AAA and maybe even AA games for the rest of us who aren't rich/financially illiterate to buy the expensive versions

Yeah, but the reason this is a discussion is that this behaviour (preordering a more expensive version of a game nobody really knows enough about) is in itself illogical and with probable effects on the gaming market. Companies try to make as much money as they can and the more money they have to throw away, the more brazen, shady tactics they'll try. It's one of the reason EA has had insane ideas like paying to be able to reload a gun and actually considered implementing it. The longer we consumers don't punish this behaviour, the longer they'll keep it up.

Short reminder, there are games like Elden Ring, Ghost of Tsushima or Zelda TotK which include ALL of the content from the get go, weapons, armor sets etc. how it should be in a finished game. And a DLC is fine if it's some massiv add on developed well after the orginial release like Shadow of the Erdtree. I don't know why anyone would want to pay extra in a full price *singleplayer* game even before release, as if the code for these items isn't already in the game.

While it is true that TotK reuses many assets from BotW, this practice is common among direct sequels and does not diminish the fact that TotK is a distinct and separate game. @@Shartsmear I'm replaying TotK right now and even if you actively avoid all unchanged parts of the BotW basemap it's a 100h+ game and it plays very different thanks to all the new mechanics. If you just go for main quests it'll still take you 20-30h on a casual playthrough. It is a sequel. I wouldn't be satisfied either if it was just like a DLC.

this is why i've started to lean towards emulation for my entertainment there are some really really really fun retro games on consoles like the snes, gamecube and ds/3ds and plus its all free with 0 microtransactions and the old stuff can run on most phones nowadays
