Drinker never claims to be the first or only critic. Funny how "the message" has become a cultural topic used by all sorts of people. Truth will out, it always comes to the surface. He unlike Bob Iger doesn't want to be president( thus his charge into the political arena). If disney can't stand the truth, they should fold down the circus tents and scuttle off to the underworld, they love their stuff down there.

@@Hat_With_A_Hat_On Here's the problem with your take. He didn't just start complaining about "THE MESSAGE" without reason. It's an ideology that has been pushed into more games/films/shows than we can count.. When the dust clears Drinker is spot on with his comments. How many times have we heard about the "Right" being the bad guys because they didn't like X or Y? Yet when the "Left" say they don't like something or attack someone that's fine because they will claim victim as soon as called out. The recent CO-ORDINATED attacks on SWT, G&G, Nerdrotic and RKOutpost are based around the fact the don't like The Acolyte. That's the reason WHY the left get's the treatment they do. You can claim it's just because his fans like attacking the left yet we have seen time and time and time again that they have been constantly attacking him and his fans for saying that they don't like whatever. That goes for all of the YT channels who don't want to follow the trend. Now are there some people on the "right" who do just like to "attack" those on the "left"? Definitely. Which goes the other way too,. Let's not forget the second part.

Yes and no. Yes movies being used as propaganda for current day politics is almost always annoying. Also if you do engage in such acts, you better be ready to suffer the consequences. If you pick a political side by default you are excluding every one that doesn't agree with you. In america that is basically a 50/50 split if you pick either Republican or Democrat. Same if you push male of female agenda's. You can do it, but don't expect the audience you are shunning and/or insulting to buy your product. I would say Morality lessons do work if they are more general, like you know most kids movies/shows. With very simple concepts like friendship, not being a bully, stealing etc. I don't think any one got angry when something like Sesame street taught kids that sharing is caring etc.

Light Year didn't suck because of a kiss. It sucked because the main character wasn't a toy having a fun adventure with his toy friends. Slinky Dog, T-Rex, Lil Bo Peep, Mr. Potato Head, and the rest rocked! They were voiced by legends. In Lightyear failure was death. Fun.

3 reasons: that opening cringe-inducing text about how "this is andy's favorite movie" deus ex cat saves the day, not the main characters half of the iconic lines didn't exist, and the ones which did were shoehorned in.

Lightyear could have been great... if it was written for a young male audience. So that means Buzz going on adventures, fighting aliens, and being generally heroic and awesome. Instead it was focused on relationships, particularly with his lesbian sidekick, which a young boy like Andy wouldn't have cared about in the slightest.

It also sucked because in-universe, this is supposed to be the movie the Buzz Lightyear toy was based on, and a movie that would have been a blast for little boys when Andy was a kid. Instead the movie feels completely divorced from the Buzz Lightyear toy we meet at the beginning of Toy Story. I think the 2D animated Toon Disney cartoon "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command" seems like a better origin story for the toy.

This is precisely the reaction I was worried about. These "woke" movies didn't fail because they had LGBT or minority characters. They failed because storytelling took a backseat to evangelism - and few people actually enjoy being lectured on morals. The evangelism led to hollow "girl boss" characters with character arcs flatter than the director's foreheads and male characters with as much charisma as a bowl of plain oatmeal, resulting in a cast with the chemistry of a lukewarm bottle of water. Guess what, you can have a strong, compelling story where the protagonist(s) are gay, lesbian, or some other "underprivileged" minority but it has to simply be a part of the character, not the theme of the movie, and not in place of, you know, an actual plot. People want strong storytelling not sermons. If anything, this BS set back minority representation massively precisely because of this backlash. Had these studios simply included minority characters acting like normal people doing normal things to advance a well-written story, they would have not only not lost a ton of money but actually achieved what the activists state were their goals.

I disagree. I think it failed because of open hatred of male customers. They weren't making movies for you. They weren't making movies for male customers. Which is fine if you're making a small budget independent film. But it's a recipe for failure if you're trying to appeal to the Mass market. In 2018 men bought 83% of tickets After birds of play did so miserably in the box office, the female director who had said she didn't care about men attacked men for not attending her movie even though 53% of the audience was men. You might make a profit of 7% of the audience doesn't come but you're not going to make a profit of 50% of the audience doesn't come.

For example I watched the girl that played Rey in the trash Star Wars films... when the first one was made she looked really likeable in interviews and very normal... the more she went into it the more she became nonsensical to promote these movies... I still think her actual self is the original likeable girl but who's gonna watch a movie with her as the star now that everyone hates her guts for being the most unlikeable character in Star Wars history? They don't see the big picture... as the truly GREAT Denzel Washington said "you need to be very careful about picking the first 3 movies you play in... cause that will be the trajectory of your whole career"

We don't want and never asked for DIE shite in our games. We want fun games we can lose ourselves in not the kind of crap we have been getting like Saint's Row. The Modern Audience they pandered to isn't just small it's non exsistent and we will prove that with every game that has an agenda to it until all these studios crumble and new ones that just make good games are back to the forfront. Wukong and Space Marine 2 just showed what we want by selling well and making the games we are willing to put hand in pocket for. 2025 is going to be an interesting year in the gaming sphere if we keep getting more Wukong and less Concord type games,

I don’t think they got the right message. The problem was not the gay kiss. Very few people care about that. But when THE MESSAGE is more important than good storytelling, people rage quit. Arcane has a gay couple - who cares? It is still one of the best animes out there. Buzz Lightyear lacked a good story.

They lost a HELL of a lot more on Lightyear than $150 million, you didn't account for the fact that of the $226M Disney gets at best HALF because the theaters want their cut as well, plus there are taxes to pay too... So at best they made ~$120M on Lightyear, which would mean their loss is much closer to $250M!

Disney didn't change its policy because of him, nor did they listen to him The thing is completely American, business is business, politics is politics * Disney has "gone bad" in the past years and now it is necessary to explain to the shareholders where the money "disappeared" especially if the profit is kept to finance newer "blockbusters" which of course did not arrive * And now imagine, "I" the billionaire shareholder start yelling at Disney on the board of directors "where is my money?" the administration was smaller than a mouse, and they are just waiting for god to have mercy on them and for me to leave the building and now either the loss of the chair or a change of policy.... what do you think will happen?

I just never got why they wanted to take ANY genre of movie and try to cater to the complete opposite demographic … I mean it’s quite literally like the lifetime channel trying to cater to the WWE Monday night RAW audience and then wondering why all of the women and their loyal fan base can’t stand their movies anymore … I mean shouldn’t comic book movies try to satisfy the actual people who pay to watch comic book movies instead of alienating ALL of them to POSSIBLY satisfy a small group of woke gender concerned people who LITERALLY hate marvel and Star Wars and will not watch anyway … and I’m by no means disparaging any group of viewers .. I just feel like idk maybe make the movies for the people who are actual fans and are GOING to watch and if you want to garner new fans in other areas possibly branch out to other genres that they enjoy and make NEW films instead of bastardizing another fan bases genre and alienating them all together… idk tho I’m just a dude who only tends to watch things that I enjoy so wtf do I know about shit 😂😂😂 anyway

Societies move in predictable patterns, in more or less 20 year intervals. Right now we are at the apex of the liberal swing of the pendulum, and soon it will begin a 40 year swing to conservative values. Check out the Strauss-Howe generational theory (The Fourth Turning). You are right that soon society will turn against liberal values and moral decay. This will be the natural social reaction of the younger generation to their parents dissolute behavior.

And as long as they get back to what they did right I suspect all would be forgiven. I myself would be ready to simply move forward. At 60 I read comics of the late silver through bronze as a youngster. Those stories are precious to me. As a self described Marvel Zombie I am all too familiar with everything that happened during those decades. The rise of Wolverine and the X-Men. Particularly John Byrnes epic run. I treasure those books in my own collection. As for what Marvel does next? It best impress a heck of a LOT of us

You have to respect the source material and find fitting actors and roll with it. THATS what Deadpool/Wolv did so well. You can make changes but it still has to fit within the overall vision. Even something like Dr Doom is Tony Stark (somehow) can totally work if the story is well written and told. You can even have all the ideals considered vogue and still make a good movie - Turning red, Nimona etc are good examples.

It's gonna be tough to change Disney. The Company is in a bubble, they are in industry that's in a bubble, a city that's in a bubble, and a state that's in a bubble. It will take years to weed out these employees. Most of these people would rather see Disney go out of business, than to change the way they operate. I don't work for Disney or know people who do, but I do know people in the same industry and we talk about this all the time.
