Exclusives were always inconvenient and anti-consumer and I’m genuinely glad it’s becoming obsolete. As a kid, It sucked not being able to play a lot of cool games your friends and the internet were hyping up due to your parents picking the “wrong” console. This issue still permeates as an adult as the cost for gaming has only risen and affording all the consoles and a pc primarily for gaming is both expensive and inconvenient. I’m glad everyone can enjoy more games regardless of console preference. Have an Xbox because you like the feel of controller but wanted to play FF16? Thankfully SquareEnix is looking to port it to both PC and Xbox. Big fan of HiFi Rush and Xbox exclusives but prefer to stick to PlayStation due to generational brand loyalty? More and more games are coming to the console. Nintendo fans are getting more third party support which is always a plus. Online games and cross platform player base should always be a default. More games and more players playing games is a great thing.

I'm glad exclusives are dying tbh, i doubt nintendo will give up with their stuff but who knows, Metroid prime would sell like hot cakes if it was on steam imo. Although not every exclusive sells that well on PC mostly bc they release like 2-1 years later so the hype dies a bit or they do the PSN account region lock bs which cuts a lot of possible audience (btw forspoken isn't really a ps game nor a excluisve its a Square Enix game) That's why i kinda sad and wished Returnal got more way recognition, such a risky, fresh and unique bullet-hell roguevania, literally the type of game that would've killed it on PC if it came day 1, if it wasn't on PC i could've been the best PS5 game along side Astro which will be on PC months later. I'm also glad Spider-man the great web got rejected tho, like the idea just wasn't good man, gameloop and core they had wasn't enough to make it work, the grind, the combat not evolving, same crimes and bosses, and if they actually made it they would've been stucked with it neglecting their other single player titles. Sometimes creative restrictions are there for a reason yk.

I am going to argue for exclusives as I feel like they're won't be a reason to buy a console without them.Their's a reason the Switch is nearly the best selling console of all time. The problem is Sony wants to make every exclusive a Hollywood production rather than the small budget games like Astro Bot.

Exclusives were the only thing to really incentivize buying one console over the other that wasn't just fanboy brand war discourse. That said, this "timed exclusivity" crap is just arbitrary and obnoxious. I'd do anything for Soul Calibur 2's console-exclusive guest character to be the standard happy medium between exclusive content and games still largely being multiplat.

Exclusives were just done to force console sales and reinforced by the fact that most gamers had consoles because they were so much cheaper than PC gaming. Luckily enough most gamers have moved to some kind of PC now because they're just cheaper than consoles nowadays (for those still looking to transfer from PC to console I'd reccomend something like a steam deck), and most publishers are indie devs and not triple-A devs, so neither party really has any incentive to make something exclusive. Especially with modern day game engines that let you export games to every single system with the click of a button. All most consumers I know of that still use consoles are waiting on is the day Nintendo stops making their own first-party games exclusives, the big console companies to add their backlog of games to PC (like Bloodborne), and for a smaller handful of games that are already on PC to get official controller support (which is luckily quite commonly added these days because it is easy to do). Would be nice to have the option of buying Nintendo games officially on PC instead of spending a few hours backing up each game through modding in the same way that you can with CoD or God of War.

I hate exclusives and always have. My mom who has been playing games since the NES was so so excited for Starfield since she loves bethesda and knew despite its issues she would enjoy it only for her to not even be able to play it since she has a PS5 due to the exclusives on PS5 being more worth to her. I have always hated it since I never got to experience fabel or halo till I got a PC at 15. They create console wars which just creates the most hateful stuff. I just hate exclusives and I hope moving forward we will faze out exclusives however we probably wont. However gaming is getting better overall. A lot of new games like Space Marine 2 I am loving and was worth the... $90 for gold edition... but I am loving it and will get my moneys worth out of it. Most games that are in bad states are getting improves (Helldivers 2) and we have deadlock which is super refreshing for a good competitive game to be solid and actually enjoyable.

Exclusives sell consoles. It’s always been start the life cycle of the console selling it at a loss, make a ton of good software and get the money back on the software. Along the way it got lost and now the exclusives always have to be this big crazy open world game. Which sucks. Bring back the smaller games and mid tier games and exclusives are not bad/evil.

I already mentioned Microsoft was a ghost town in the vid, none of those games are the greatest of all time, and some of those aren't even generally considered top 3 in their respective genre. I think Astro bot is a great step in the right direction for Sony if they continue giving ppl games that are reminiscent of why ppl even gravitated to Sony originally. And I don't think Astro bot will save gaming because gaming does not need to be saved. And exclusives mean nothing in the current day aside from selling a console or subscription service. The games that you mentioned being exclusives means absolutely nothing. If the game is good, then it's just good, console wars are stupid and corny.
