Mouse sensitivity is very important in First Person Shooters, a lot of players aren't really sure what sensitivity they should be using. Here are some trips and tricks I've used over the years to feel more comfortable.
My usual settings at the moment are 1600 DPI at sensitivity .85 to .94 (I change depending on the day), so roughly around 30cm/360. That's for all FPS games.
Some people prefer lower sensitivity in games like CS:GO. It's really up to you to find what's right for you.

I always get nervous when playing multiplayer games, no matter if it is just a casual match. My body will instantly start to freak out, sweating hands, increased heart beat, hands shaking, you name it. It really messes with my mouse aim and my overall gaming experience. I actually get angry at myself the more I fail to aim properly because of my hands shaking and it is just a vicious cycle of me getting more and more nervous. But as you mentioned, maybe I should not care about those meaningless stats or about the other players judging me. Maybe I should just play to improve at my own pace and challenge myself just for fun, like playing with no crosshair which I actually found really fun to try. Of all the "improve your mouse aim" or "find the right sensitivity" videos out there you actually helped me remember to just have a good time.

I mostly play ut2k4 instagib, and I can confirm this theory, although I didn't go for the high sens extreme. Started off with about 30cm/360, went to 40, then 50, and finally to something like 70, which is really hard to play with when it comes to movement. Today I forced myself back down to 40cm. What once felt slow is now ultra fast but I'm still stable enough to be consistant. Playing on very low sens tought me how to use my arm or just more of the wrist if ever needed, which made 40cm much easier of course. In just one evening I have improved a ton on 40, going from frustratingly bad aim to consistant and very good aim.

I would say 40cm per 360 is probably the most balanced sensitivity for all games. you can move and aim accurately. It's great

This is fantastic for finding one's comfortable sensitivity range. I used to think i should stick to one sens for every game, last year i started experimenting and found that i could get the same level of overall aiming performance with any sens, each sens offers advantages and disadvantages, being able to comfortably swap is the actual super power

I went from 5.2 800dpi to 2.35 1200 dpi and 2000dpi at highest. i'm currently playing csgo with 1.5 400dpi and 1600 switching back and forth from time to time i found i can basically play well on 2 different sens settings. love your videos btw, keep it up :D

i was an average railer back in quake2 then a really good player who's always on top of the list after every match told me to keep the sensitivity the i'm used to & simply change the FOV or field of vision in the command console. higher FOV means ur movement will "feel" faster & enhance ur reaction time by a lot. I tried it & a few days later when we played again, he wasn't on the top list anymore.

This is exactly what I have been doing the last 2 months, experimenting with stuff between 11 and 32cm and yes it is quite fun to fuck around like this, also I know about some top players in some fps games playing with extremely slow and fast sens or others constantly change it (most of them from tf2) whenever they feel it odd. BTW have u even considered the possibility of making a video of giving ur toughts and experience with quake games and why u ended up playing QL so much over the other quakes it would be interesting to hear your toughts on CPMA especially

i stumbled on this video but i have done exactly what you said on my own and found after trying to get used to a low sens for about the last year and just fucking around with a much higher that i found myself enjoying myself and even playing more accurately on a higher sens..about 8-3/4"..(which i guess isnt really that high) but after seeing video after video ensuring me that using anything lower than 20" or 50cm is bad i went on a very long journey just to find myself kinda back to a higher sens..I think I using about 7-1/2.. either way its good to try really low as well as high.. and find yourself in the middle..

I started pc gaming with a SUPER high sens. Most have been like 5-10cm/360. Now years later I think I've finally found the right one for bf4 at least: 40cm/360 (I've tried 20cm, 25cm,30cm,45cm,50cm and 55cm). Seems like a good middle ground to me. With this I have about 24-25% accuracy with assault rifles and on CQB maps I often go to 27-30% accuracy. Although you really don't need to be that accurate in bf :P It's so casual

I overthink everything and struggle extremely hard with picking a sensitivity, always changing it and have set myself back so many times for years. I'm trying to commit to this, I've always used quite low sensitivity and I'm going to give a 12cm 360 a shot. I was trying 20cm before and i was terrible with it, but I realize since I'm gonna suck anyways i may aswell go all the way :) Gonna come back to this video every time I'm feeling demoralised for being terrible, I'm used to being decent at most games I play and it sucks to suck. Thank you Zy. I'll update this comment when I complete it. Edit: Still suck, making progress though. Edit2: Really struggling today, i never realized how much being good at games is tied to my state of mind, its really wearing me down but I'll keep going.

I was considering to reduce my sensitivity as I lack precision but I've go the accuracy. Means I can get the crosshair near the target, just can't hit it. The thing is with my current sens ratio is that a flick will do me a 170 degree turn, and a swipe will do me around 500 to 600 degree turn. Perhaps its more about the way I hold my mouse as I use the bottom of my wrist as a reference point rather than my elbow.
@ashscott6068

I started at 9cm/360 in Quake cus I had a small pad. When I got a big one, I started changing it all the time. Now I don't play Quake at all, and only play a little CS now and then, I use 50cm/360. But I change it every week like I did in Quake. Maybe some people benefit from keeping it the same, but I've noticed that if my aim ever goes off, all I have to do is change sensitivity to get it back. I think I just aim better with my eyes. Putting a crosshair where you want it is easy; trying to flick your hand to a position you think will put the crosshair where you want it, based on nothing more than muscle memory, seems like a worse way to do it. When the little cross is on the other guy, press left-click.

You are not the only one that thinks like that, there is a placebo effect of lowering your sensitivity (more than raising) where you feel like you can hit more shots and play better using it but you will never go past that if you don't stick to the same sensitivity and try and learn it the hard way

My aim was okay playing with a high sensitivity, but at one point I dropped my sensitivity in-game quite a bit from like I think 30% on Battlefield to 8% I think and dropped my DPI from about 2400 to 800, always using the middle setting for windows sensitivity, I was aiming much better because I could make slight adjustments easily at mid to long range, up close my aim still improved, I learnt to use a wider area of my mousepad, I have a decent sized one and was only using a tiny portion of it

Hey ninja, could you do a video that goes more in-depth on the grips and the variations on each? As in, rather than just showing the standard grips, show a multitude of variations of each and maybe even some more extreme ones? As someone who has overly large hands, I find it interesting seeing what types of grips are possible in trying to adapt to a new mouse. Maybe even use an array of the mice you have to showcase these? And highlight the pros and cons of each grip. Just an idea...

@ricardopaixao6367

Don't try and copy someone else, no matter how much you try its very rare that the sensitivity of the person you look up to is also the best for you. Choose something that you feel like you can play with and then learn from how they play the game and make sure they hit their shots. The secret is not in the sensitivity, its in your ability to use it
@trapromo
@trapromo 8 жыл бұрын

I'd like to think I've already been through this. When I played Minecraft, I thought higher was better, and ended up pulling 360s with a turn of the wrist. Moved on to CSGO, heard that low was good, stuck with a sensitivity that had me swiping half way across my entire desk for a 360. For the past few months, I've been using a medium sensitivity. Occasionally turn it up a little. Never got good at CSGO.

I think it may be useful to point out that sensitivity has a lot to do with grip style. Palm and claw is fine for low. However you pretty much need claw or fingertip at higher sensitivities to make those smaller adjustments. Unless you have ridiculous wrist dexterity. Aiming style and grip has a lot to do with sensitivity

One thing i've found testing various dpis is that at really low sens you use your whole arm to turn and wrist to aim, whereas at really high sens you use your wrist to turn and fingertips to aim. In my opinion, if you're going high sens i recommend going high enough that you dont really need to use your whole arm to turn anymore, works best for me atleast.

EXACTLY! my sens is 7.5 cm / 360 (at lower resolution screen though) and some may think it's too fast, but I LG 45% easy and railgun is my bread and butter weapon. I have been playing for 4 years so it just "feels" like my muscles know when I have to hold the mouse more tightly(in an LG fight) and when I have to let lose and flick. Imo you can get used to any sensitivity. One part of me says high sens is better because you can literally move your crosshair faster, the other part of me says use your whole arm with a low sens for the best accuracy.

Being a Quake player too since 2000, I always prefered higher-sens which seems to be more rare surprisingly. For example I've checked yesterday and in Unreal Tournament it takes me 4cm for a 360 degree with my (Mionix Castor) at 5000DPI which is the highest native res of the 3310 sensor, so my mousepad have always been overkill but they're all made too big these days. Currently use the rought surface which is better for high-sens, of my (Corsair MM600). I'd say that there's just with the Railgun/Sniper that I've never been that good but I own with all other weapons and have super quick reflex with such sens.

4cm/360??? I wouldn't mind seeing a video of that too, I used to play BF4 at 75cm/360 so to me that sounds really extreme.

I've been playing for a couple of years and don't seem to improve on accuracy with LG and rail. I've prioritized movement and rockets. I don't think I should lowering my sense, but maybe change fov, smooth mouse or start using accel a little. I don''t seem to find the right settings though. I've been playing CA all the time, but I would want to get into duel a little. From what I've seen some duelers seems to have fov 100 or even 90?! What would you recommend for improving LG for example? More than just practicing, because I know the basics.

(i know this comment is slightly late but...) i once was finding it hard to hit shots, and on closer inspection i found i almost always overshot. i had recently changed my sense slightly because turning didnt feel right, but now my aim was off. i decided that i would play on a much higher sens to sort of reset my muscle memory and teach me to be more precise, then later i would switch back and re-develop my muscle memory on this sense (btw the sense im on about was really comfortable, but my mm was messing me up sometimes). i found it worked really well! just thought i needed to get that out there.

Good, but in a single player game like Quake 1&2 you wont be playing for a week just to test it, you have to get it right fast to enjoy the campaign. I have to try with Unreal Tournament 2004 ;)

I know I've asked these 2 before probably, but I know others will ask as well: 1: *On what CM/360 did you end up?* I'm personally still switching between around 43cm/360 (about 800dpi, 1.2 sensitivity in CSGO or 800 & 4 in Overwatch for those who play) and 33cm/360 (only the first in CSGO though because the latter would be 800 dpi 1.5 sensitivity in csgo and 800 & 5 in Overwatch, the other also for Unreal/OW) 2: *Do you try and adjust your other shooters (DOOM for instance or OW) to come close to the same FoV & Sensitivity you use in QL?* I find that this gives a nice level of consistency despite having different ''feels'' to each title of course.

1. I change between 28 and 30 cm / 360 depending on how I'm feeling on the day and the mode I'm playing. 2. I'm not as reliant on aim in other games so I couldn't tell you what I use in them without loading them up and checking. Just "yeah about that" is fine for me, I'll adjust.

its a good starting point but thats it. the perfect sens depends on your arm and hands and what game you are playing and maybe even the way you hold the mouse. best way to find it is to experiment like he says in the video
@trapromo
@trapromo 8 жыл бұрын
With the many different mousemat sizes out there, that would not make much sense. Measure out how many cm it takes for 1 rotation in game to know your own sensitivity (how you set to same sensitivity to many different fps games) . Find what you yourself are comfortable with and buy a mousemat that is either large enough for you and your mouse movement, or just get a huge one, because extra space always feels good =p

To me 35cm/360 is just perfect and for any game on that matter. It's not too high for CS, but not too low for Quake and other shooters, even single player ones. With that said, I can only play well with small mice.

I use 40cm for normal and 80 for zoom in xD Before that I had 60cm and 120. But I kept having problems of not being able to flick up or down anymore. Tho I've been thinking of moving to 30cm and 60cm... as it takes me 230ms to do a flick 360 so i see it as "objectively speed limited by mouse speed". But I guess I should try 20cm.... I really don't wanna go to 12cm... thats so ridiculously fast... I was hoping to get a objective way of finding the right mouse speed from here, like there was a objective way of finding the right mouse size/shape.
@GreatMCGamer
@GreatMCGamer 5 жыл бұрын
I have used fast speeds before... Like 12cm ish. Can't realy remember where I started... Every time I acquired more mouse space, I slowed my mouse speed, as I saw slow speed as objectively more accurate.
