In regards to the fan hub, there should have been cables for both the case and the cooler that combine 2 into 1 so you should have plenty of fan controller headers.

Hmm now that I'm more familiar with the process, I should look at the box of parts and cables again and see if there is something I can chain off

Oh my God, that case is a monster! Grats on the new pc, that's always very exciting!! Building a pc is definitely cheaper than buying a ready-made, and you learn so much from doing it. But I'll never do it again hahaha. Once was enough.

This is really funny to see, especially the throwback to win98 startup disks and ribbon cables... jeez, yeah was about the same time I assembled my last computer... nice content, I do like the crossover with pc building simulator. Heck, I wasn't even aware this exists...

I saw an ad for it a year or two ago or more, and had it on my wishlist since it looked like a fun idea. When it came time I realized a sequel came out lol. I think the Epic store had the first one for free a while ago, but figured the new one would have more of the parts I was using

It used to be that you could install a load of components on the MOBO while it was out of the case - CPU, RAM, etc, then drop the whole assembly into the case. It saved you fiddling about in close quarters.
@Genosis

That does sound nice, though with all those fan cables that would have been a nightmare to do outside of the case, then bring back in lol

Hah yeah it was a fun process. I held off as well to favor having warranties and better support, not having to deal with part issues… But, I actually feel more confident, knowing exactly how my computer is built and if something goes wrong, I know how to fix it.

Congrats on getting your new PC built and up & running. Had me a little worried for a second with the thermal paste. Was like "Please tell me he doesn't forget it!!!!". Only problem I saw was the RAM sticks. Could be wrong but I think they are supposed to be in channels 1,3 or 2,4, not together like slots 1,2 or 3,4.
@Genosis
@Genosis Жыл бұрын
I looked this up; not sure if it was out dated but when using 2 sticks in a 4 slot situation, 2 and 4 is recommended. I'll swap them up when I setup the fan controller when it shows up next week

Thank you! Yeah getting this working without a ton of troubleshooting was insane to me. I still need to dig through it later when the fan hub arrives, and rearrange the memory sticks (I am supposed to use slot 2 and 4 for optimal performance when using 2/4 slots), but working great at the moment

The anti static bracelets aren't used anymore given the amount of electricity it takes to damage components. Most of the bracelets are garbage also with no real grounding properties.
@Genosis
@Genosis Жыл бұрын
Yeah it's quite likely the tolerance for the static shock must be a lot higher now 20 years later lol. Well, maybe not 20 years, more like 2008 so.. 15 years ago when I was in college when I was instructed on it.
@magnus33john
@magnus33john Жыл бұрын
@@Genosis Yeah back in the day things were a lot more prone to it. Now you can have the pc be in a flood and most of its going to be perfectly fine. Most of the bracelets now are junk with no actually ground connection the bracelets and the clip. There is a exception to this some of the cheaper ssd don't like shocks but given the cost its no hardship to by name brand now. Congrats on the upgrade and it must be feeling like quite the jump forward😉

As someone that started in software, and then decided to do the hardware side instead, I've built an absolute crap-ton of computers. I have to say that you did very well. the only time that I cringed was when you almost installed the water block to the CPU with the protective film still on it (and grounding the anti-static strap to a case that wasn't plugged into the wall yet 🤣). That thing is going to rip! Proud of ya Gen! Edit: You may want to check your motherboard manual, but I think that for best performance the memory should be in slots 1 and 3 instead of 1 and 2 so that you're using both channels for more bandwidth.
@Genosis
@Genosis Жыл бұрын
I just looked up the memory thing, I read 2 and 4, but maybe there is a motherboard specific recommendation. I'll swap them up after confirming and when the fan hub arrives
