This guy is a genius and makes everything very simple. If you are having problems following him then a little light research on how computers work. If you’re still having troubles, just buy a pre-built system and don’t stress it. There are some fairly good buys out there. I’m 61 and just finished my first computer build and if I can do it, anyone can 👍

As a bit more seasoned PC builder, I also find this video very useful. For a different reason: I can refer beginners to this, because I know Paul does a great job at explaining the basics of understanding PC components and assembling them into a built PC. It can help them build some confidence in doing the job themselves. While I don't assemble many PCs myself, I like staying up-to-date and giving PC build advices even to complete strangers. There are other channels that are well suited for beginners (e.g. last time I checked LTT, it aimed at fairly casual audience), but I still think Paul did an exceptionally good job at conveying the basics in a video that is still fairly short (even some meme compilations, clickbait and other attention hijacking junk can run much longer).

I watched your "How to build a computer series" when you were at Newegg, over and over. I successfully built my ivy bridge build with your help. I had one small issue on my pc build (ended up building both identical pcs for my wife and i) and it lasted like 3-4 days where one specific game would have frame jitters occasionally without any indication of what was causing it, was going crazy trying a bunch of different things to solve it, then one day it just stopped on its own and nothing since 😂 but def an amazing experience. Took like 6-7hrs to build hers since it was the first one, then when i did mine a few days after it took me like 3-4. cable management takes the longest by far lol

I've recently started doing research to build my first PC, primarily to be used for GIS and Geomatics processes (plus Photo Editing and Gaming). So far, this is possibly the best explanation I've come across for what each of the 'basic' parts does and how they work together. You use easy to understand language that even laymen can understand and now I have a better understanding of what each part of the computer does beyond 'The RAM makes applications work faster' and 'The CPU does things and is important'. 4070Ti is a bit better than the 4090. You can find a new one at MSRP, and if nVidia gets off their lazy ass and releases a 4070 non-ti, or a 4060, they might be cheaper.

This year I went with a 5600x and a Radeon 6600xt. Overall it was a ~$1500 build. All last gen stuff. I'm pretty happy with it.

i learned how to build my first computer via your excellent 3 part series years ago (i think you were still with Newegg or maybe they sponsored that video). i learned one major thing from those videos that saved my first computer build. I breadboarded the major components outside the case to test them. As it turned out i had a bad motherboard and while that was frustrating.. it was actually way easier troubleshooting outside the case rather than inside the case. if i have someone that i'm helping them build a computer, i routinely tell them to watch your video series as they are the best i have seen.

I like how every so often I see a video of yours, and it's a "How to build" series. Technically, you only need one every decade or two, but someone like myself would prefer a recent video over one 3 years old. Especially since a novice wouldn't know PC building has been (relatively) the same from the very beginning. But what would I know, I'm just a novice enthusiast myself.
