Gaming With A Trackpoint Is A Confusing Mess

The trackpoint is a weird little peripheral, primarily found in Lenovo laptops, this isn't really something you want to play games with. And yet here we are because my curiosity has gotten the better of me.
I mean it can't be that bad right? A cat isn't going to be meow over this right?

Wait what how... May I ask the difference between dell latitude's trackpoint vs thinkpad's trackpoint? I have been googling for quite a time but still not find the answer. Thanks!!

I don't know much about the Dell Latitude trackpoint unfortunately. Never used it before, however from what I gather its less responsive compared to the Thinkpad. The reason might have to do with the height of the nipple that you shift around. Think of a gamepad/controller, if you want more range of control you extend the sticks, same deal with the trackpoint. Although with the newer Thinkpads I believe they're shorter now compared to the past so good software & hardware probably also play a important part to it. Lenovo in general has more experience I'm guessing.

Is youyrs running at 1000hz? Trackpoints usually default to only 90hz and even then it's only at 200DPI or some absurdly low number. It's old tech that has never been improved on for the sake of deadzone accuracy. I wonder if there is some way to program a controller that can create a 1000Hz high DPI trackpoint, but that might just be a pipe dream.

Huh I never knew it was only 90hz. That said I haven't found a way to change it so it is whatever the default value is.

raire, i just have bought a deft pro trackball mouse, i did the bearing mod, but im struggling with micro movements, there is a sort of threshold in which the ball doesnt spinn then it spins but its too much so i overshoot the movement and so on... did you expirienced this kind of issue? its just a question of getting used to it or there is something i can do to solve this issue?? thanks to anyone who can help!

Yeah, the Deft Pro and all Elecom trackballs have problems with static friction. You can improve it, but most trackballs have to deal with it. The only trackballs I used that haven't run into this issue are the Gameball, Ploopy Classic/Mini.

There's a new mod for the Huge out in the r/Trackballs subreddit, it involves putting an o-ring and a bearing in two screwholes somewhere in the cup. I think that could help
