How can people praise the character creation in this game? In the previous games, the main characters had alternate costumes which were all items that could be used in character creation. The lizardman build even had uniqueness to it with the ability to customize head frills, horns, and other things. You could build your version of Nightmare. This new game's is comparable to scraps. What's worse is they give you all of these new "races" that are nothing more than skins or humans with item permanence (like the devils with wings and tails). They have these cool little bios that hint at abilities but will you ever get those powers? No. It's an empty promise, a "wouldn't that be cool." Aside from that, the game is fine. It doesn't do enough to feel like the series has grown at all, though. Just a nice memory of playing SC in the arcades. At least with the last one, they were trying to be more (though I can gripe about that game as well).

Fuck these comments, all complaining about the most minor aspect of the video. The pronunciation issues are perfectly excusable given the foreign and weird names in the game. This was easily the best soulcalibur 6 review I've seen yet. Explained the new mechanics without sacrificing the critical focus and mentioned the aspects the audience cares about thoroughly, all without a distracting and arbitrary score used to compensate for explanation and cross-genre game comparison. It's a shame a quality review (increasingly rare) is looked over due to a simple unimportant error

Definitely, man was hooked playing the beta reminded me of the old days on Dreamcast with the stages they recreated and the fast pace fighting. But also with some nice visuals and sick looking moves.

Soul Blade was revolutionary, yet no one even knows about it I feel like. I still play it sometimes to this day. SC2 on the PS2 was just a more polished version of that with some extra stances in there, and it quickly became my favorite fighting game. Something about being able to chain multiple abilities through multiple stances just made for some awesome game play. I tried the beta, played against sweaty mofos constantly while I knew like 3 or 4 old classic moves haha.

I grew up on this series and I'm enjoying this installment WAY MORE then SCV. But My biggest issues are the Day-1 DLC b.s and the fact that it feels most of the development focas was strictly centered around character creation. I get that the team is trying to appeal to new players and casual fans which is smart, but it's the die-hard player that keep games in relevancy these days. The two different styles of story mode aren't exactly bad and they're better than SCV in terms of story and overall writing easily. But the actual now it's themselves just sort of feel rushed and shoehorned in. As for the gameplay it's feels solid but offline has a noticeable input delay at and times Online feels more responsive. (Seriously, no joke. go try it) gameplay is fast enough so you're on your toes and ready to counter attack or dodge when needed. Soundtrack is solid and the visuals are beautiful. I'm at least glad Zasalamel, Voldo, & Raphael are here though I'm having a blast using those three like old times. The game isn't perfect, but it's better then SCV ever was. "Welcome back to the stage of History."

I heard that the developer made a statement saying that, " If people don't buy the game and it flops, this will likely be the last Soul Calibur game." I am not okay with that. Apparently they had to fight tooth and nail to get this game greenlit. Which is really sad because with it's character creator, and other modes, I find this franchise to be the best fighting game I have ever played. I have been playing since SC2, and it makes me sad to think that this may be the last game. :(

I don't understand the praise for the character creator. Sure you can make lizard men or whatever but they took away over 200 items from 5 not including dlc and only added about 40 new items I believe and nothing to unlock, I used to always fill out the character slots in these games with my own original cast but after only making 7 people im running out ofnmatirral to make everyone unique

The generic character select screen for Arcade mode makes no sense. If you get the good select screen in taraining and in the other modes. Why not have it in all the modes? Also, the fact that the character's second original costume isn't available by default drives me nuts.

Someone who played the game wrote an essay for it. Then a narrator read it separately. After that, the video producer added all of the clips to the audio. Viola, there you have your average youtube game review. That's how almost every character name got mispronounced.

I disagree with a few of your assessments of the gameplay mechanics. Everything else looks encouraging. I'd say reversal edge forces a simplification of gameplay and I don't care for it much. It's not too bad though since you can dodge it or outrange it provided it is kept as a mid range vertical. If namco chooses to give some characters more than that, it alone could create a noob character situation. Also the series has never lacked for defensive options. I'd argue scv had better options outside of requiring meter for the GI. Just guard was a good defensive option as, while requiring more skill than the other defensive options, it also allowed for higher reward. Not to mention the 8 way run which you earlier praised as the games depth is a defensive option that cannot be overlooked. So I guess maybe reversal edge fills the role of "easy to use without being good at the game, but not game breaking, noob friendly option"

One thing i will dispute is that copying all of the previous game's attributes does not = that its "as good". It could even been seen as lazy. I think SC2 is a good game, but it severely has an issue with no ideas of its own besides taking what was groundbreaking about SC1 and copy and pasting it. I mean, unless you count ideas such as guest characters

IMO, reversal edge was a bit much. If it didn't auto perry certain attacks, it would be okay. the best part of 4 and 5 was finding the right attacks and combos to win. We didn't need a crutch. Also, Original Ivy FTW ~ they took ivy's 3 stances and gave them to Azwel... Lamesauce Project Soul. If I remember correctly, Ivy had her own team just to make her shit work, you hurt a lot of fans when you killed her stances.

Weapon master had an original story but it was missing something, that something was it need the Create a Character to make the opponents more unique.
