Dead Rising 1 set up the ‘Carlito Orphans’ plot line Dead Rising 2 set up the ‘Phenotrans Outbreak Manipulation for Profit’ plot line Dead Rising 3 then concluded both by having the main character be the cure to the zombie plague, and then having Isabela basically be a self-centered, self-proclaimed hero, obligating herself to working with Phenotrans to start the Los Perididos outbreak, find Number 12, use his blood for a cure and clear her own name and separating herself from her deceased brother. But gosh, the character motives for each playable character were all over the place. You had Frank West who simply wanted to cash in a chance at fame by covering the Willamette outbreak and coining it as ‘The Willamette Incident’ and getting his five or so years of fame. Then, Chuck Greene came along and simply just wanted to clear his name from being the one who started the Fortune City outbreak and pinning it on T.K. afterwards. Finally, you have Nick who just wants to leave Los Perididos, but gets roped into the whole thing of his blood being the cure and deciding last minute to be a hero and do some good.

@@bulletcola7890 Agreed. Honestly I'm disappointed that they didn't do more of this. DR1 has Frank West, a photojournalist, he has a unique gameplay mechanic around taking photos. DR2 has Chuck Greene, a motocross champ, he has a unique gameplay mechanic around combo weapons. Time for DR3, we have new character Nick Ramos. I can't wait to see what unique profession and gameplay mechanic he's going to bring to the tab- Huh? He's a mechanic again? He does combo weapons again? Oh okay. No creativity or uiniqueness here. :(

What if they decided Chuck's Overtime mode wasn't canon, rewrite ending A so that Chuck survives with Frank's help and then Chuck suddenly has no evidence that he wasn't the bad guy, even though the original ending A was that Chuck had the evidence and that's how he was able to call a news station to send a helicopter to pick everyone up, so now Chuck has to go with Frank to investigate a scoop. Case West is good, but the way they tied it to DR2 was bonkers. I wish they would have just stuck with DR2's original ending and have the redeemed Chuck seek out Frank because he's still pissed about being framed. Or maybe the evidence Chuck found during the DR2 outbreak wasn't good enough, so he asks Frank for help finding more? Something like that. They could have done it without taking a mini-chainsaw to DR2's endings.

I'm surprised Capcom never thought to make a Dead Rising based in the Santa Cabeza outbreak with Carlito and Isabela being the protagonist.

Probably impossible to create a Santa cabeza dead rising as the plot can be predicted without playing the game. 1) Carlito and Isabela find out about the infection and why it was started. 2) Carlito and Isabela have their close friends/family die to the zombies 3) Carlito and Isabela fight off resistance i.e the zombies or the people trying to turn them into zombies/psychopaths. 4) Carlito and Isabela escape Santa cabeza and at the end of the game it's revealed they're escaping to Willamette. Additionally there is only one possible ending, which is Carlito and Isabela surviving and escaping. The only thing that the Santa cabeza game achieves is providing more depth on Carlito and why he became a terrorist.

I'm just pointing out the fact that it would be extremely difficult to simultaneously adhere to the canon whilst also surprising those familiar with dead rising's lore. It would also be difficult to create endings as the canon ending of the game is already well established.

I've gotta ask with emphasis on "looks" by why does Frank West have to look like if Larry Lovage from *_Leisure Suite Larry: Magna Come Laude_* if he got a graphical upgrade in the Dead Rising Remaster? You take a photo of Larry and Frank in the Helicopter and the similarity it's oddly alike.. Sure you get the "Frank West 2006" Costume for pre-ordering but they should've just taken that and upscaled it. Nitpick aside I can't wait to jump back into Willamette and Shop and Chop till I Drop. Thank you Harry for providing us with lore in order and maybe as a one-off you can do Bugsnax for the heck of it!

Finished playing the series a couple of weeks ago as I've played 4, which I didn't know people considered it non canon, and I gotta say it makes sense, Frank it's just a different character in that game it hurts. With its highs and lows this series became so special to me and the first game especially is definitely one of my all time favourites now. I'm so glad they are remaking it cuz I know I'll keep replaying that game over and over forever, I know many people want to see the same treatment for dr2 and while I would definitely play that as well, I actually hope they get to make a new game that can embrace the first one's energy and atmosphere. I don't care where they put it in the timeline or if it has frank, the only important thing is that there's no Hank East

After spartan total warrior on gamecube that was my second favourite game im a massive history nerd probably even more so when i was young so i was looking for any game i could play as a spartan or roman. I think Dead Rising 4 is a good game, but I can get behind it not being canon. I feel like it could definitely be in the Off the Record Timeline(like you suggested), but it could also be in the Timeline where Chuck Escapes on the Helicopter causing him to never meet Frank, which could've caused Frank to not get into the Lab(or got in, got caught, and that led into his life being worse, and him getting jaded). It be cool to get an Alt Timeline Dead Rising Video at some point just to try and make sense of it.

Hey, Harry -- I only ever got to experience Dead Rising 2, unfortunately, and not very much of it. This dive was very welcome, and gave me an appreciation for what I thought was a pretty ridiculous premise when I first played DR2. I loved learning the story of this franchise, and am looking forward to possibly picking up and experiencing these games down the line. Your argument for the canonicity of DR4 is interesting -- I'd love to see a deeper dive into that game specifically down the line.

The one thing this franchise is consistent (except DR4), thankfully, is how interesting and diverse their main and side characters are, same thing for the psychos and antagonists. It carried on into the live action movies as well, which I was really glad about when I first saw the movies. Nick especially is my favourite because of how unique he is in his naivety and gentleness, he is a kind and big softie with a good heart who pulls through his fears to save himself and people around him.

I don’t get why they changed “offensive” things in the remaster (The PTSD guy having lines change, Larry being changed in look and speech to be not Asian or less Asian, despite I don’t think he really had an offensive Asian accent, taking out the thongs (like I get they didn’t want to reward points for erotic things, that’s fine, but the girl’s having thongs sticking out of the girl’s shorts removed seems dumb, because it’s a M rated game and it’s not offensive to have fashion like that), and changing a few characters, especially Frank’s, looks (Frank looks like a villain, Isabella looks like she doesn’t own a hairbrush, and the grocery guy looks less crazed without the dark shadowing on his eyes like the original had). The 3rd game seems way more offensive and not in that clever South Park way either, especially with Jherii, which just feels awkward and cringey, especially with Nick calling her a guy after the first time (I don’t believe anyone would do that). Most the others were ok, but they just felt bland. I feel 2 gets a lot of “it’s not as good as the original”, but I think it’s quite good, the gameplay is better, it’s characters to me are more fun, and I like that it has more places to go, but still feels small enough to be worrying. I also think it’s funny how people dislike that there are more hot people in the game, despite it takes place in a popular place, which is commonly filled with more pretty people (especially an entertainment attraction area). I honestly would love a Dead Rising game that has a wacky woke mob (I’m liberal, but that’d be fun to see a woke person act insane over like an offensive comment), a conservative nut job that feels like everyone is out to get them and calls someone who is liberal a snowflake, despite they actually are being a snowflake for like no reason and they go postal, an insane cop (that might be racist) that takes his job way too seriously, a vapid influencer who intentionally causes deaths of people for views, an amputee who has a tricked out wheelchair that spits out fire and they are fed up with people not parking right and what’s special treatment, and a doctor who is peeved that his patients don’t want to wait for him to do his job, and it turns out he’s been playing golf or something while his patients wait for him.

Personally never been as big of a zombie fan as a lot of other people, even as a kid. This isn’t to say I didn’t like them, because I did, I simply wasn’t THAT into them, so I didn’t really play that much Dead Rising back in the day. Even then, I still have fond memories of it because it successfully managed to be scary (for a kid) what with all the undead running around, and hilarious at the same time. That was, I think, the first moment I started realizing comedy and horror can go hand in hand incredibly well, even though they represent almost opposite emotions

As usual I enjoyed the new video immensely. Dead rising 1, 2, and OTR all hold a special place in my heart, shame the series fell so far. Idk if they can capture that same magic again, but if they could make a new game that stands out as much as the 1st did, they would do well I think.

Okay so adored the video. Absolutely LOVED IT! EVERYTHING was top tier and it's such a good representation of the franchise! Even with the routes you take. Now I feel that you still could have done 4 and kept it in with this lore video HOWEVER doing so under the caveat that the story of dead rising 4 is that of an alternate universes version of Frank west and the history behind it. You can than make it so that you play for the lore of the dead rising game "Dead Rising "Off the record" where instead of Chuck green it was Frank West who was the one to figure out what happened in the Vegas outbreak and lead it into dead rising 4 as a direct sequel to the events of that game. That Frank west in "Off The Record" is literally the Frank west from dead rising 4. Being that of a sarcastic Hopeless asshole who is only out for himself and doesn't really care for others since he's infected by the zombie parasites. That is until the full cure made from Nick's blood is distributed around in which he takes before giving up on his career in showbiz, journalism and lead chasing and changing his name to Hank East to avoid any of it and his past due to shame, regret and worry and becoming a college photography teacher where he is soon contacted by that universes ZDC director. It's just a suggestion but still amazing video.
