He's about 17-18 y/o, almost starting college. To be fair, the dad did ask and Minato said he was ok being alone he said he wasn't a child anymore. If they knew that there was a monster roaming around, obv events would have been different. But alas, they hadn't known they were in a horror game 😂

What makes it even worse is if Ayano was pregnant before Kinu abandoned her, in that case she knowingly left her sister and unborn niece/nephew to die all so she could have Ayano's husband. Or imagine if Ayano realized what her sister did to her well she was still lost, either way it makes Kinu even worse than she already is.

Sadly you didn't talk about the Princess Silwork fairy tale. It's a story Minato heard from his mother: a girl tries to kill her beautiful sister multiple times until she buries her alive in the mountain during winter. When people came to save her, the princess had disappeared and a huge cocoon and silkworms were inside the hole. I think the tale is true and the princess is the "she" Ayano is talking about in her diary. "She" is the one taking her place and stealing her memories. In the tale, the princess is wearing a red kimono, like Ayano in the butterfly ending. Maybe because of the red cocoon, Ayano is truly reborn as the Princess... Also, another mystery is who is the person who got Ayano pregnant? It could be before her disappearance (Kinu says Ayano would prefer to marry someone else, so maybe she had a lover) but Ayano was such a fragile and good girl that it seems strange. I think something happened in the mountains and maybe it's the fact that Ayano had a relationship with something non-human that made her a monster. Or maybe as in some old stories, she got abused by a man and killed. However, she didn't die thanks of the Princess curse, giving her the Princess possession sickness, and she got reborn, coming back home and becoming a monster.

I don't think she actually got "pregnant"...? Given how she had been "pregnant" for 6 years, maybe she was possessed n that was the demon or whatever's way of propagating the curse.

@lysfranc8782 There is no mystery around the pregnancy. No one got Ayano pregnant, she asexually reproduced like a silk worm laying eggs through parthenogenesis. But her body was too deformed and the “offspring” had to be cut out of her. That is why her offspring looks identical to her. It’s all her genetic material, no one else’s.

I love that UFO ending, at first I thought “oh, a silent hill reference! That’s fun!” But once the camera focused on Ayano waving exuberantly with her own tinfoil hat I snorted so hard it hurt a bit. The UFO Endings in the Silent Hill games were always my favorites (especially in Homecoming when you consider that seems like an ending that a lot of people would get as their very first ending due to the choices in the game) and this one is no different. She’s so excited and I like to think she was the one reading Paranormal Monthly

Some elements of this game reminded me of Project Zero 2: Crimson Butterly (one of my all time favs). The Dam being built, designs of the keys and pinwheel puzzle, mentioning of butterflies. Given what I know about Japanese mythology it is most likely that as she was left on a mountain by herself with no way to navigate she probably fell down some crevice or Hollow section of the mountain into something that could be a cave of silkworms and got infected by them changing her as these particular silkworms were Supernatural in nature and given on the fact that we humans are impure anything that becomes one with us or merges with us turns it into a demon of some kind

If we lived a pure, untainted life similar to that of the monks and chose to self-reflect, we tend to manifest as pure being no matter what creature is in bed itself in our mortal bodies and manifest our spiritual bodies. Furthermore, most of the creatures we take the form of greatly depend on what we mostly desire or what we find to be of great significance to ourselves. Say a man who loves collecting all the money he could ever have and still wants more. He gets possessed by some spirit, who turns him into a demon that gobbles up everything of value and stores it in his belly, including valuable livestock or the hand of a valuable maiden. Some stories talk about how people with strong resentment could attract negative creatures that would try to merge with the humans that they were drawn to, becoming a demon of whatever form would best fit their resentment, either as a spider, a snake, or any other creature that would best fit their hatred. There are rare cases where a good human, who is probably not a monk but still good, becomes possessed by or merged with a spiritual entity and gains the bones of that entity or their spirit, such as the ability to use magic or have unusual abilities like regrowing limbs stretching near immortality (not true immortality, just greater regeneration) and so on.

The video doesn't talk about the Silkworm Princess, a fairy tale in the game. It's very interesting and could be the key to understand what happened to Ayano in mountains. My theory is Ayano died in the mountains (maybe even got abused since she got pregnant) but got possessed by the Silkworm Princess and she's the one taking over her mind.

Small correction: The missing person poster is relatively new, presumably within a decade or two before Minato visits Ichinose whereas Ayano killing the servant happened in the 30s. It is highly likely that these missing people were victims to Ayano as well though, as Kinu could've let her loose to either assassinate someone she hated or to simply feed Ayano with human flesh

You mean an Oni, if that true is a pretty aggressive possession, Oni are more passive in their approach, they need an elaborate ritual to possess a body, the part of the building a dam is about of the urban legends and haunting spots of Japan, the haunted shire and the flowed village, that the creator of the Ju On and The Grudge movies did two movies about, and there is also Noroi, Oni in Japan aren't like Demons in the west, they cant just be exorcises, they need monthly or yearly elaborate rituals to keep a bay, if they don't, there is a risk that the Oni escape and cause havok and death.

Great video! Please input the Japanese names into a text-to-speech program so you can get an idea of their correct pronunciations. You don't have to say them out loud like a native, just get them right. Hearing Kyubei pronounced like kai-yu-bay instead of kyoo-bay made me feel like you maybe rushed this video and didn't bother to get the small details right. Hearing Ichinose said like itchy-nose kind of pissed me off. Saichi would sometimes turn into sa-chi too. I've noticed this oversight in some of your videos on J-horror games. Considering how often names are said in "explained"-type videos, I figured it would help to point this out. I hope this is a constructive comment!
