Fun Fact: SA2 was meant to be the last Sonic game. Like ever. This was because at the time, Sonic Team was unsure what the fate of Sega was going to be as the DreamCast was on it's death bed. This is why Shadow dies at the end of the game, Rouge says she'll retire from treasure hunting (and implies settling with Knuckles), and Dr. Egggman gives the speech that seems like he has a change of heart. It was supposed to be a conclusion to the series.

Looking back at it now, the boss battle mechanics were not good. But, just the idea; the very concept alone of this battle is what made it so fucking epic. Just thinking about the fact that that's progression of the same Hedgehog that was once running through Emerald Hills rescuing animals and running fast to blazing at hyper sonic speeds through outer space to save the Earth from a falling space station and before they, _Super Sonic_ and _Super Shadow_ (and the ship!), burn up in the atmosphere. Heroically, they use all their remaining power to make a MASSIVE _Chaos Control_ to teleport it away from earth... plus that song. The very idea of this fight _ascended_ what I imagined was possible for the characters Sonic and Shadow. I sat there in 2001, awestruck, motionless, with my mind blown the fuck out and the Dreamcast controller vibrating in my hands...

The story was incredible, the characters were great and memorable, the graphics were awesome, the controls were seamless, and it had by far the best, most epic music in any Sonic game ever made. Shadow was the antagonist of this story in the beginning, but as the game progressed he slowly worked his way into our hearts and saved the world instead of his inital intention to destroy it. To have him sacrifice himself in the end after the game took us through a one of a kind story was perfect in my opinion. I'm sad watching this now because: 1 I am getting older:( and 2 it takes me back to a time where I really thought that Shadow was a one and done Sonic character. Seeing this ending now after all the crappy games that followed up really takes away from it all. I love Shadow, but having him die right here would have been perfect for the franchise as a whole. You can't just kill off a major character and have him come back in follow up games.

Sonic's words about Shadow are so heartwarming and touching. As much of a rivalry he had and still has with him, he respects Shadow and values him as an ally, friend, and fellow hero. He knows Shadow started off doing things he regretted, but that doesn't define him. It's what he did in the end that truly matters. And he gave his life to save Earth. Even before that, he gave his life to save Rouge before she was about to be killed.

Sonic and Rouge’s little talk really gets me. It speaks volumes more of shadow’s character development and even Rouge’s development as she is now more calm and gentle instead of being a grumpy thief. Not to mention shadow saved rouge from the island explosion and became great friends. So it must hurt for rouge to see this. Same even goes for sonic. Him and shadow had fights but in the end they learned each other’s way and became friends and sonic saw shadow’s motivations and started to understand him. So seeing shadow die showed him more of the meaning of a sacrifice for understanding others. BUT NOPE ALL OF THAT IS GONE IN THE FUTURE GAMES

I adore how at this point in the game everything is about to go to shit with the colony on a crash course with the planet, with less than ten minutes to the impact that will wipe out all life on it. Everybody inside the ARK is desperate, yelling to Sonic and Shadow what could be their final words. It's a straight-up end of the world scenario, and despite all of that the song playing in the background is brimming with positive lyrics and tone. The clashing contrast of the situation and the background music on one hand is a bit funny and even amusing. But on the other hand, there's something powerful about it. It's the music pointing out that against all odds, the bleakest outcome will not come through.

There's so much wrong with it. The vibe of the movie is completely off Sonic Adventure 2 story is the right balance of heroism and slightly darker moments. When Eggman explodes the moon and holds the earth ransom, we really felt the hate and fear in our bones for Robotnik, the fear of 8 billion fictional people completely resonates with you, you're ready to go to war with sonic right there. This movie does none of that, it's meaningless action and funny lines just to dangle shiny objects in our eyes I'm really not impressed outside the solid jokes/acting/action but I wouldn't want to watch a movie based off my favorite sonic story if they scrap literally all those sentimental moments because Hollywood thinks they're so much better than everyone else I think that's disgusting

@ippolit4262 I think your being too harsh I too am a bit upset they didn't follow the story beat for beat but they really can't they weren't gonna add rouge so they needed someone to bounce off with Eggman so they used Gerald the characterisation is pretty much the same Gerald does lose his mind and he becomes evil so what we see in the film doesn't change that it's just that he's alive here. Also shadow does deceive Eggman just like the game as desires to get revenge on humanity although I prefer shadow and maria being in space as it makes more sense, but you gotta remember this is their own version they aren't gonna follow the game to the T, although I would have loved to see the bio lizard but what we got with Shadow and sonic was some great stuff and Eggman sacrifice is tragic cause Jim isn't coming back it was really fun I can't deny

@@freezasama5802 nah heavy disagree there's 3-4 MASSIVE sins Hollywood commits here to the integrity of the real story. A... F them entirely for exploding the moon at the end of the movie just like a silly accident, they ruined eggman holding the earth hostage by demonstrating it's power. And to go along with that theres absolutely no reason for the EC to have firing capabilities without all 7 chaos emeralds Hollywood doesn't give af about the process of collecting chaos emeralds so guess it's just a magic cannon powered by absolutely nothing since sonic has all 7 chaos emeralds literally at the exact same time they're gonna fire it, yeah that makes a ton of sense. It's also completely pointless that literally GR does a countdown to fire since Eggman could have fired the cannon at anytime but does the countdown so earth will surrender to the Egg Empire (greed weakness). But c'mon they ruined that all so bad when the EC destroys the moon in SA2 its absolutely incredible the empathy you feel with literal NPCs in a video game and the contempt you feel for Eggman is so real for doing that, you are in 1 million percent solidarity with sonic and co in that moment to get vengeance..so the game actually makes you feel the vengeance while the movie does not because revenge is too dark a concept for their 5 year old only target audience. B. Cutting out the fake emerald arc ultimately eliminating the "you just told me fox boy" reveal by eggman, Sonics TRUE most Chad moment ever, hitting the chaos control with a fake emerald is the best plot twist in sonic history but Hollywood wouldn't dare waste their breath on all this game script good storytelling mumbo jumbo that's way beneath them so they yeeted it. C. Yes Rouge the bat would have made it more interesting her rivalry/romance with Knuckles is kind of hot in the original game but Hollywood is way too sterile and would find romance between cartoon characters to be childish that's only for the humans, got it. 👍 Plus honestly Rogue stealing 3 emeralds from the island and exploding a massive military base is so baller would have easily been worth screen time. But yeah instead of Rouge and Amy Rose they replace them with these people I feel no connection to or could give af about they don't do anything, all the real people in this except the Robotniks could be NPCs as far as I know none of them matter. Those are the 3 main reasons I find this movie to be a gimmicky representation of the best story in sonic history but I could probably go on sadly. This movie is only worth your time if youre easily entertained by cheap tricks and shallow storytelling...but not enjoyable to those like myself who clear as day sees the disdain the execs had for the source material as clearly it seems like so many of these great moments are beneath them from their smug condescending moral and artistic highground.

I agree, definitely the best ending. On a side note i can see why that despite its great success, Sonic mania gets so much flak from the adventure era fans. Christian whitehead made sonic mania to remind the classic era fans of the good times, As a hybrid fan( Im a fan of all 3 eras of Sonic the hedgehog), i wish that he makes sonic adventure 3, and do the same with the adventure era fans.

Sonic & Shadow transforming into Super Sonic & Super Shadow, joining forces with Dr Robotnik to defeat Dr. Robotnik's grandfather's masterplan and save the promise Shadow made to Maria Robotnik, Shadow making the ultimate sacrifice. All that while listening to the soundtrack from the Japanese rock band Crush40. BEST. EVER. UNBEATEN SINCE 2001.
