SPOILER WARNING FOR RDR 1 & 2 Red Dead Redemption 2 is my favourite video game of all time, and the main reason for that is Arthur Morgan. Because I was treated to such a fantastic game and main character I thought it only right that I make a video praising the game and of course highlighting why Arthur Morgan is in my opinion Gamings Greatest Protagonist Enjoy!
(THIS VIDEO CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE GAME....obviously lol)
The ending song is - The Parting Glass by Anne Bonny. Fun fact, it’s also the ending song to assassins creed black flag✌🏼✌🏼

No he said he wanted to be BURRIED facing west, and it wasn't so he could face the setting sun, he said it was to remember all the good times the gang had in the west. @6ixlxrd
@6ixlxrd 3 жыл бұрын
@@kidnamedfinger2840 I happen to disagree (even though I liked Ellie more than Joel in the first game). Troy's performance as Joel easily outshined Ellie's in Part 1, especially with how he delivered the loss he felt after losing Sarah, then the rage/resentment he felt saving Ellie in the end. In Part 2 he outshined her in their flashbacks, from him being happy to get her something on her birthday to the awkward joy he felt when Ellie said she'd like to forgive him. Although yeah, not a fan of 2 either. For many narrative reasons. All boils down to preferences though. Liked Ellie better as a character because she was a funny badass, but vibed with Joel more because his performance sold me on the game, more so during his few vulnerable moments (like telling Ellie she was walking on thin ice when she bought up Sarah). He can go from ruthlessly aggressive killer, to introverted loner, to hopeful father figure, to a flawed and failed father, to an ordinary man in a heartbeat.

The horse death was extra upsetting for me because I was using Buell after getting it from the dying Hamish. I had lost the horse I had been using up until that point in a gunfight, and not long after I did the Hamish mission where he dies and gifts you Buell. So when Arthur leans down and whispers “thank you”, it was like he was thanking Hamish too. Ruined me.

This game gave me that same realization. Understanding my past mistakes and failures and wrongdoings were not all I measured up to be, and who I choose to be and the mark I choose to leave behind is more than a series of actions. Our legacy is what we grow beyond, and what we become. In the end, your past only matters in what you choose to let it turn yourself into. Becoming a good man is confronting yourself and your demons, and recognizing that becoming is worth more than being, because it means you are always striving to be better than the day before. Keep on becoming my guy.

Dutch: "John? Insist?" Arthur: "Yeah, insist." One of the best parts of the game. Once Arthur gets his diagnosis, the real version of himself starts to come out. He's the flipside of the coin to Dutch. Dutch is completely healthy but mentally spiraling downward, we're starting to see Dutch for who he really is. Arthur's health is failing him but it turns him into a morally superior version of who he used to be as he grasps for any kind of redemption.

I love The Witcher 3 but I’m getting pissed off at the game’s fanboys shunning and disrespecting the masterpiece that Red Dead Redemption 2 is. Literally I see comments and videos say that Arthur is not a complex character because he is evil and just a thug who kills for money and say the game is a stupid horseback riding game when it is so much more and I’m going to flat out say it, Arthur Morgan is a better developed character than Geralt. They’re both great but Arthur literally has one of the best character arcs and background stories in any game and even including tv films and series. Like i always say, if you didn’t get the ending with Arthur dying peacefully watching the sunrise then you didn’t play the game right.

I remember being absolutely grief stricken at Arthur’s death, to the point that for 2ish weeks after I finished the game, every time I thought about him, a pit dropped in my stomach. I just beat red dead 2 today. I knew Arthur was going to die but never knew the rest. And WOW I am blown away by how good that was. I normally don’t get emotional for games or movies. But seeing Arthur go from this bad guy killing people and stealing money, to a man working to redeem himself. Giving money to people who need it. Helping his friends have a good life. Helping some random stranger on the side of the road. The scene where he gave John his hat and smiled just broke me. I held it in until he I laid on the cliff. But then I broke down. I love this game so much and will always remember it.

I never thought I'd play Red Dead 2, and I'd never even heard of the 1st game, so I let my friend tell me the story, or at least that Arthur died in the end. I didn't know about anyone else or when they'd die, so Hosea, Lenny, etc were a shock. I decided, 'eh, why not?' when it was on game pass, knowing full well Arthur would die in the end, and got to chapter three, burning down the Braithwaite manor, before it got removed. I immediately bought it and finished the game. I've never cried over a game's story or characters before, but during Arthur's last ride, I, too, cried like a little bitch. Arthur really is gaming's greatest protagonist.

14:54 Exactly the same. Only witnessing the whole journey of Arthur's last moments after finding out that he is sick and he is slowly going to die got me feel emotional. It's pointless to even mention what was it like when he finally died. There was not a single other game that even got me to feel bad. I just felt forced to feel bad for the characters, but instead i was cringing sometimes. But Red Dead Redemption 2 was a whole different story. You had time to meet the characters, then grow thoughts over their personality and finally even feel like they are alive. The story wasn't rushed, so i never felt forced about emotions, like hearing on the news about a random killed pedastrian that you clearly don't know. So after watching Arthur die that was the first time i cried over a video game. And i have lost count on all the games with storylines that i have played for 9 years since. This game is just incomparable. Until the next Rockstar title.

I experienced of a similar change, all my guns were cast in black and silver early on, and he was always in that black duster coat, all black down to his boots even the bandit set of gun belts. Perhaps an interpretation of Johnny Cash’s monicker, “The Man in Black”. Then around 5 or 6 I also began to opt for his classic blue shirt outfit, or a crisp white everyday shirt, but mostly I began to dress him more like a person than an outlaw. Finally, in the end my revolvers were cast in white silver and gold with pearl handles. The transition into the light having been complete.

Great video! Expanding on your point from 7:50; Arthur's gunslinger outfit is the opposite of Micah's main outfit in almost every way. Arthur wears a black hat and Micah wears an off-white/beige hat. Arthur where's a blue shirt and Micah wears a red shirt. Arthur wears a beige jacket while Micah wears a black jacket. Arthur wears black pants and Micah wears off-white/beige pants. This opposition is even reflected in the beginning of the game at Colter with Arthur wearing a long dark blue coat and Micah wearing a long dark red coat. For these reasons; it felt like sacrilege to not have Arthur dressed in blue.

When my horse died I cried so much.... her name was Esperanza I had her since the beginning of the game I never switched her out for too long. She wasn't the fastest horse, she didn't have the best stamina, and as my mother put it she wasn't the prettiest horse, but she was my special girl. I called my horse Boah because Arthur always called him that xD. I remember he was the horse Hosea gave you to either sell or stable, for the moment I saw it I fell in love with that horse, with it's beautiful black coat that was so shiny. I played the whole game with him, sure he wasn't the fastest nor the strongest horse but god damn he was my Boah. In the ending seeing him die was so heartbreaking, it made me feel so angry and sad, I couldn't help but cry when Arthur said Thank you :c

Another great character once said something that came to mind while watching this. "Test of a person's true value? Death. Facing it, staring it down." Arthur never ran from his fate, he faced it down and used what little life he had left to do some good in the world, save the people who mattered to him.

This helps explain the best as to why Dutch absolutely hates John: John got the very thing that Dutch wanted the most for himself. And it was both because Arthur was the first one to realize this truth that Dutch was constantly searching for and also because he fell to his own desperations for money and fame with the help of Micah. When Arthur died, Dutch lost his passion for freedom. When Micah died, Dutch lost his desperation for money. When Dutch died, John had his meaning taken from him. And it was all caused by the sad reality that still lies in Dutch's philosophy: There will always be another monster for the rich to hunt down to make a profit.

I was going through some things last year, but after getting to know Arthur through his eyes and witnessing his fate, I decided not to complete other portion of the game because his life was so comparable to mines(minus the killings and the other crimes he committed in the past).
