Just Cause 4 Review 2023 - The Worst Just Cause Game.
In my Just Cause 3 video I called that game the best Just Cause game. So I was more than excited to play Just Cause 4 in 2023 but boy was I disappointed. JC4 is responsible for the fall of the just cause franchise and it is the worst just cause game in my opinion.
But it does have some good qualities and we'll talk about them as well in this Just Cause 4 Review while also making a few comparisons to Just Cause 2 & Just Cause 3 to help you answer the question:-"Should You Buy Just Cause 4 in 2023?"

The only places you HAVE to go to in Just Cause 4 are each province's singular major base that the missions are located in. Every other settlement is borderline useless, and most towns have only a couple of chaos objects. In Just Cause 3, some provinces had more than one base to destroy.

Is it part of the story or should I free roam and liberate the bases ? The map is so confusing with all the symbols . I've been playing for 3 hours now and I have no idea which are the main quests and which are the sidequests

@@danischannel the chevron symbol and inverted triangles are the main missions, and the little diagonal squares are side missions that give you points to upgrade your grapple hook. you can do the inverted triange missions (region strikes) in any order you want, but some are harder than others. you cannot properly "liberate" bases in this game.

And when I look at the map I mostly see icons for vehicle/wingsuit stunts which I'm not really into lol . Is there a map filter to hide those and only depict main quests and side quests ? This is probably one of the most confusing map UI designs lol .

do yourself a favour, get JC3, and if you can, get the DLC for it. The wingsuit DLC adds so much sauce to already good game. The other DLCs are fun too but wingsuiting around a sky fortress is digital crack.

play it, got in on sale for like $5 with the dlcs that are farrrr better than the ones in jc4 adding whole new map expansions aswell as well as the bavarium wingsuit but better, force mechs and essentially an orbital strike. not to mention jc3 just having a better campaign and liberating bases feels so much better without the stupid mission objectives like in jc4

I personally enjoyed Just Cause 4 more than 3 but mainly because my favourite aspect of a Just Cause game is the map, and the map in 4 was much better than 3 imo due to variety.

I can't play JC3 without a hoverboard and the aim focus anymore. Those are great additions. Also the new hook system is amazing, the unlimited deliveries of vehicles and weapons (even thou is just 1 item for each order) and the double modes for each weapon

Just Cause 1 was bad when it was new and I think that’s part of why JC2 blew everyone away since it was SUCH a massive upgrade. Also I remember JC1 was full of stupid console gimmicks like how grass would only bend on the Xbox because the devs said PCs weren’t powerful enough. Yeah, okay.

100% agree with everything said in this video. Back when Just Cause 4 came out I actually bought the game on launch day and then never even downloaded it. I probably thought it just needed some bug fixes but after seeing enough feedback about the game I just lost all motivation to start playing. Then last year after forgetting about the negative feedback I randomly started playing Just Cause 4 one day, as soon as I discovered that destroying buildings has zero impact on campaign progress I uninstalled it.

one of the biggest problems with jc4 was librating outposts or cities because in jc3 you have tasks and know exactly what to do but in jc4 you are confused . jc3 effects and destroy ability of bridges and effect of crossing on flower farms with a vehicle and .... are identical

I've tried to pick up JC4 twice. Right after JC3, found it boring. Then I tried it again just now wanting to kill some time, and I still can't enjoy it. No incentive to wreak havoc. Missions are boring; stand here and defend this while we attack you with everything. As someone who's still playing since day one, yes, the game leaves a lot of... "They should've added this and that" or "improved this or that" I often think, I want to shrink all assets and adjust roads to make the map seem bigger, make more weighted realistic destruction physics for everything, like BeamNG, make the weapons and shooting more realistic and detailed, make the weather look like Red Dead Redemption 2's weather, full customization options for everything, online lobbies, a theatre mode like Halo, where you can replay cutscenes, or rewatch your gameplay with a free roaming camera, so you can create videos... etc. They did none of the important stuff an action game needs. All we are going to be doing is blowing stuff up? I can go to a GTA Online public lobby and it's basically a better Just Cause game, I can do all the secret agent spy stuff even stand ontop of jets.. The management and direction for the type of game they needed to make just wasn't there, I'd say story stays more realism spy drama, keep the gameplay like a video game. Just because it looks realistic, and the stakes are as high as they've ever been, doesn't mean I can't survive a plane crash by ragdolling out of the explosion on fire, then wiping myself off, like Rico: "Sheesh"

Them dumping so much seems like my Just Cause Experience ends with number 3. RIP, Rico, we hardly knew you. If the game wasn't riddled with bugs and actually had kept some of the elements which made Just Cause 3 so amazing to play, it would have been a great game for sure. The physics and everything are 10x better than JC3, but the constant crashes and the frametime spike lag you get just make this game impossible to play and I have tried playing this game on 5 different occasions. Oh, and don't even get me started on the side contents like the wingsuit stunts, the destruction frenzys and what not, I'm not even sure if some of them are even in the game cause I couldn't play the game cause of the lag spikes, but the wingsuit stunts are for babies, they used to so much fun in JC3, they were long and you could explore half the map while doing some of them. The frenzys were very fun and sometimes challenging too, which is also completely missing from the game (correct me if I'm wrong), and the bases, they are just CRAP, how is it so tedious to occupy a base, free these fuckers and escort them and all of a sudden the base is yours, like what? Makes no sense. Overall, it's a huge let down, and if they ever make a JC5, I hope they look at what they did right with JC3 and improve on that instead of just trying to change them entirely

This is a way better review than Luke Stephens's dog water review of Just Cause, it deserves more views and you deserve more subs. I remember quitting this game in a few hours after I realized that there is no base liberation and you no longer get rewarded with new toys by blowing up red infrastructures. JC3 literally has some of the best the progression and design philosophy and execution of a game: gameplay wins all. Players create awesome explosions with the toys they have and are rewarded with more toys to enable more creative ways to cause more awesome explosions. A physics sandbox with minimal restrictions to maximize player creativity, levels filled with red objects that would cause chain destruction, many planes tanks helicopters and guns to reward the player, and lots and lots of explosions are all you need. The rest, characters, missions, and especially stories, are not really important. JC4 forgot about this principle and gives us a complete failure of a game.

Baffling that they thought destroying settlements and outposts, the cornerstone of every other Just Cause game, is just not present here. To be fair I prefer Just Cause 4, gameplay is Awsome, the map is better imo. Bought the Complete Edition and would say that it would suck without Dlc's. (Better Dlc's than 3, except the mech dlc, this one was a Wonder). The biggest problem I think is that they needed more time (they had admitted it about the water but they were given a deadline etc...) One last thing is that Just Cause 4 is WAY Better optimized than 3. PC and Xbox, JC3 will get easily in trouble with random shutdowns etc... But 3 got a better atmosphere and sound design, and better villain...

If they actually plan on making a just cause 5 they shouldn't use the new stupid ass engine they used to make just cause 4 they should use the one for just cause 3 and try their possible best to improve the graphics and make the map as large as possible they should practically remake just cause 3 but put the best features of just cause 4 in it such as the new grappling hook functions the over board and the new vehicles in the dlc I would also like if they put some missions involving chases or something and they should add a variety of major missions so that we won't get tired of doing the same thing over and over they should also use bring back the wing suit functions of just cause 3 and maybe combine the way the missiles are being fired in 4 with the one in 3 so you have 3 modes of fire

I recently played just cause 3 to 99.9% (I’m missing just the achievement where you have to be lucky that that shit spawns) and then loaded up just cause 4 and 2 (just cause 2 was just as amazing as 3)and I have to say just cause 4 was so bad(I don’t have the dlcs) the new system to progress the storyboard so lame. It’s missing so many features that made jc3 so great and replaced them with mediocre at best. I couldn’t agree more with you on this game. I hope they rebound back when jc 5 comes out , in like 15 years. Edit: I know jc5 is not confirmed or anything but the studio received funding from the German government for jc5 it was not that much money but we at least know they working if they ever release it I don’t know seeing that even the most diehard fans and players of 3 are loosing interest in the game because everything has been done. But nonetheless les keep praying for a worthy successor to jc3 in what ever form or game it might come.

You're describing the plot, not the story. The plot is mid, the story is trash. Definitely agree with the physics bit though, especially during tornados.

I turn off the music in most video games. Trying to emulate being there and immerse myself in a virtual world while some cheap hollywoodian orchestra trash plays in the background is not my idea of immersion. All it does it gives me bad anxiety. I know I'm in the minority now, but comes the future, the music will be off when we're fully immersed in some Real Reality VR bullshit or whatever they'll call it then. in my opinion: 1. Just Cause 2 2. Just Cause 3 3. Just Cause 4 4. Just Cause 1 But Just Caue 1 isn't bad, it was just a beginning (somehow i wish a remake or JC5 with carribian setting). 4 is still absoluty fun.

Best water graphics goes to GTA V. And JC3 has music? I only started playing it yesterday but so far all I hear is the same South American jingle on and on. The NPCs are dumb, the enemies are dumb. The graphics are not that good. But I can imagine they did this because of saving processing for the animations and detailed environment destruction. But so far, JC to me seems like a shoot you would let your 6 year old play.

Yes by what you say this game sucks. But I was enormously disappointed by the 3rd as well, which did away with much of what made the 2nd fun (hanging from a car door, who remembers that?) and had awful mouse controls. So I wouldn't praise the 3rd game as much either. Just Cause 2 is the best and last I'm afraid.

Nah, go back and play just cause 2 after Just cause 3. Nobody cares that much about mundane shit like hanging from car doors. 2 has miserable mouse controls (spinny camera BS), JC3 doesn't. The map is better, the soundtrack is better, the weapons are better & most importantly, JC 3 demolishes JC 2 in terms of traversal (wingsuit, jetpack and all). The smoothness of JC3 is unmatched.
