I’m starting to think time in the inside of the Oldest House might be out of sync with the outside, possibly as a side effect of the lockdown. Firstly, we get documents in the AWE expansion of things that happen in Alan Wake 2 that shouldn’t have happened yet in Control’s timeline. Add that with the AWE alert at the end of the expansion which seems to have come from the future, now I’m not sure it did. I think it came from the present, they just don’t know how much time has passed outside. Then there’s the fact that this Lakehouse expansion confirms that from the field agents’ perspective the oldest house has gone dark for four years. Realistically if the Hiss invasion went on for that long the Oldest House the agents inside would have died a long time ago from their resources and supplies running out. No food, no ammo. I think once lockdown lifts, from their perspective only a few weeks/months max would have passed, but they’ll be surprised to find that outside at least four years have passed. Wonder how they’ll explain that to their families and the families of the deceased.
@mirandagoldstine85482 ай бұрын
I’m beginning to suspect the same thing. I think the Board is somehow manipulating time and space in order for the people trapped inside to think a relatively short people of time has passed as well as somehow causing food to appear (there is a hamper mentioned in Arthurian mythology that states that if food for one person is put in the amount of food found in the hamper goes to enough for a hundred people. Perhaps it is an OoP that is in existence at the Oldest House?)
@ilregiallo41512 ай бұрын
I agree. It makes sense, since the Oldest House isn't actually in the same space-time continuum of New York, the door is just a threshold: maybe the lockdown created a filter between the time in New York and the time in Oldest House. Or maybe the Board is involved.

The painted are way to over powered for how little healing there is, and there seems to be no way to avoid being grabbed by them at times. At first I thought maybe the trick was not running and being slow/careful around them as it seemed to take a few seconds for them to pull themselves off the wall. However, not all of them seem to behave this way and will just instantly jump you with no warning and leave you with next to no health/insta kill you. edit 10/28: called it PC Patch 1.2.3 Notes: 1) Balanced the amount of health items, so that there are more to be found. I think that Alan repurposed the Cauldron Lake Lodge into the Valhalla Nursing Home, the differences between the buildings being due to the Dark Presence tearing through the place and being rebuilt by Barry Wheeler. Both buildings were originally built to be hotels. Either the Lake House was built on a secondary location or Alan had to create a second location to make up for the plot hole he'd created. Use of certain rituals created a threshold between the Lake House and The Oldest House through the Oceanview Motel and Casino, resulting in the building being bigger on the inside.

I really love your videos and your lore details, but I have to say that you have a tendency to ignore the obvious answer for more complicated ones. Like thinking the Lakehouse was the threshold mentioned instead of Cauldron Lake, or having the theory that the maintenance being mentioned in the Oldest House but seeing it being done 4 years later means that they’re in a time loop instead of it just being repaired multiple times, which is mentioned in the Control document as well. It means that you come to some conclusions that I probably wouldn’t have even considered, which is awesome, but also that you sometimes miss the trees for the forest. It’s mind blowing when you get something that makes total sense, but frustrating when you miss something that seems obvious to me. It really makes this my favorite channel to watch!
@Torr36972 ай бұрын
One instance of that is with Zane. You took Jesse saying that she always remembers him as a poet instead of a filmmaker, Saga knowing him as a filmmaker, along with Alan calling him a fictional poet, as evidence that the Dark Place changed their memories. This is despite the fact that all 3 seem to be immune to the Dark Place’s memory altering ability. Personally the simpler answer to me seems to be just human fallibility. Jesse believes that she remembers it wrong not because her memory was altered, but because she never found any evidence that the poet was real and eventually just accepted that she must have misremembered it. After all, she’s remembering a book of poems she read as a child years later, and it would be easy to be convinced that you just remembered something wrong rather than believe that reality has been altered. Saga knows him as a filmmaker despite being immune to alterations because she never knew the information before. No alteration to be immune to if you had no info to alter. And Alan is sorta a combination of the two. Yes he knew him as the Poet, but only when he encountered him at Cauldron lake, and the next time they met Zane tells him that it was just a role he played. So Alan believed Zane, because he has no evidence otherwise and the dude himself is providing a probable explanation, along with him dealing with a shoddy memory. Once he gets out and remembers the actual book of poems he may start to suspect that it was an alteration, but who knows. I honestly would consider that aspect even more intriguing, because if you only realize something has been altered when you have knowledge of it beforehand and an overwhelming disbelief for what the new reality says, how much could have been altered over the years. How many times do they “remember something wrong” when what really happened was an alteration that affected the world and everything else, and just convinced you because you weren’t sure about the truth
@Endgame_012 ай бұрын
You forget that Cynthia Weaver remembers that Zane was a poet and she doesn't understand why people say he was a filmmaker.
@Torr36972 ай бұрын
@@Endgame_01 no, I’m not forgetting that, I’m saying that even if someone was immune to having their mind manipulated like they are doesn’t mean they’ll know the truth. It just means that anything old that they know won’t be changed. If for example Dylan Faden were to show up and he hadn’t read those poems that Jesse kept hidden, he would know Zane as a filmmaker. Not because he isn’t also immune to having his memories changed, but because he had no memories to get changed. Being immune doesn’t magically grant you the knowledge of what reality actually was, you have to already know it for it to remain unchanged. Otherwise you absorb the new false reality, because there is no way to learn otherwise. I guess what I’m saying is that I don’t think that people who are immune have some sense for what was actually real, they don’t hear Zane is a filmmaker and think that’s wrong unless they already knew him as a poet, and they are still human and can be convinced otherwise if they only heard of him as a poet in that hazy way you might remember someone acting in a movie you saw 20 years ago. The only ones who know and remain sure that Zane was a poet are those who actually knew him in life. Alan Wake has barely any memory at all, or could be under the impression that Zane being a poet was the false reality. Jesse remembers him as the author of a book of poems she liked, but she’s also had over a decade of no evidence and others showing evidence that Thomas Zane was a filmmaker to eventually convince her she’s remembered wrong. And Saga never heard of him before at all, so she just knows him as what reality seems to show, which is that he was a filmmaker.

Hello, First, I'm glad to see you back once more in the world of Alan Wake, I llike all your content regarding the Remedyverse. I really like Remedy's work, but I really have a problem with the fact the Odlest House is still in lockdown. I mean, the events in Control (DLCs included) took place in 3-4 days top. So, in this time, they manage to stop the invasion of the Hiss, but after 4 years, they still struggle with the remnants of the attack ? With HRAs and Jesse's abilities ? It doeasn't sound right to me. I really hope Remedy find a good reason for that, and not some cheap ones like "they are stuck in a time loop" or "time passes by differently in the Oldest House" because these come with serious inconsistencies. Oh, and for the timeline about Ed Booker's abduction, I think it happened jsut after he was interrogated by Sage, possibly when Saga was performing the autopsy on Nightingale. Remenber, the AWE doesn't start before that, as the FBC station in the woods is quiet the first time we go there.

I wonder what the Marmonts relationship looked like before Alan stuck his shadowy little fingers in it. I don't think the fbc would allow two people who are married but don't work well together be in charge of such an important project. Edit: just got to the automatic Alan story writer. They may actually be that stupid. Also the Dark presence itself calling out ai art is hilarious.

Calling out AI art along with a reveal near the end about a certain singer is the highlight of the DL for me.

Or at least understand their organised - bureaucratic way to keep all recorder. A 3 hours video, with a second part coming. I am wondering you barely reach the second sub-level taking notes, and reading all documents founded.

I’m currently working through the DLC at the moment, but what if Alan’s typewriter from the first game is an Altered Item or Object of Power? Alice bought it for him (or it was in Bright Falls?) at the start of Alan Wake 1.
@GamingUniversityUoG2 ай бұрын
Yeah Alice bought it for him. The funny thing about the Typewriter is that reality altering affects have nothing to do with it at all. I think Control fans got the wrong impression that it was the OoP and did it all when the Dark Place is where the power comes from. That being said. Because the fan base is so focused on it and has such strong beliefs that it IS an OoP. Who knows if the fans caused it to become altered after the fact.
@Blader4452 ай бұрын
@@GamingUniversityUoG I agree. My other more meta takeway (so far) from the Lake House is how larger studios or companies churn through artists (and writers) like how the Marmonts used Lane. The biggest common factor among KZbinrs, the video game industry, and the larger entertainment industry as a whole is burnout and employees leaving. This (to me) feels sort of like Remedy talking more so about their previous bad publishers (Microsoft, Rockstar, and Epic games have all had some level of employee scandal around overworked staff) since they’re trying to be more independent. “A thousand paintings. A thousand more. Art was not art. It was merely content. …Paint lined his fingers…” No wonder anyone would hate their own medium.

I thought The Lake House was the location of where Alan's cabin for the first game was ...at least the shoreline..
@GamingUniversityUoG2 ай бұрын
Birds Leg Cabin hasn't been there since 1970. It only briefly appeared in 2010 did to the story summoning it into existence. I need to review my notes for Control because I could have sworn it was the lodge reused

They did. But they were built internally at the Oldest House and handed out right before the lockdown. They were not even able to manufacture enough for House staff let alone ship them all over the country to other facilities. Wouldn't be needed since Hiss were not there anyway.

Okay so is Ed Booker responsible for injecting Saga Anderson into the story? It's not something Alan would come up with, unlike Casey who was clearly conjured by Alan.

I don't believe so in this case. I mention in part 2 some things about Ed but it doesn't affect Return. Alan mentions he saw her in a vision and wrote her in as the hero for return.

1:26:45 I think the overal subtextual commentary here is: Pettiness, erraticness, ego - these are qualities encountered in some collaborative artistic endevors, frequently enough to be a known "cliche" - but usually they are encountered reeeeeaaaal early in an individual's journey into art and are immediate indicators that no art or artist is possible or present given such default conditions and resulting processional steps. The point being: believing that cliched horsepucky about how great or even TRUE art is created by temperamental yet somehow almost precognitively talented and brave genius artists is fundementally flawed and it only acts to perpetuate the success of strict formula as opposed to applied artistic craft. The fundemental flaw - lest we forget, given a foundation of courtesy and respect is necessary for "civilized" individuals to not just co-exist, but have their thoughts, beliefs, and emotions given the freedom of self choice necessary when applied to those practices best defined as "main point toward 'what it actually means to be human'/'our ability to create expressive forms and processes demonstrating the beauty of humanity's place in reality... You know, like creating art, which, remember... ALL art is subjective. And the first to INSIST or FORCE their will, their vision, onto any project being created by multiple individuals, who, for the most part, proceede using those simple civil foundations as their default - that erractic, petty, etc... individual isn't an artist... That person is just a blustering, uninspired asshole. Regardless of having some quality artistic ideas from time to time, or the degree of "talent" they might possess. In all things, though there are certainly those who do, very few of us truly live "on our own" or under a rock... Every it that can be conceived truly requires a village. Just my thoughts.
